Things you should know -

• Reaction % is your Brave. Ramza starts with 70 Brave, thus an Auto-Potion will happen 70% of the time
• Faith is for Magic damage and statuses. If you have 70 Faith you will not only do more damage with a Fire spell, but you will also take more damage from a Fire spell. Stop will hit you more often, but so will Haste.
• Always check the Turn Order. This is help you know who is going to move next, but it will also tell you if your spell will hit the target before they move
• Speaking of Turn Order, this is more of an advance tip, but if you only do 1 of your actions [move or attack] and then don't use the other [Use a Potion on yourself and not move, for example] that unit's turn will come up quicker. Again, this is more of advanced tip
• If the game asks if you want to save it, save it in a new slot. There are some battles that you can't get back to the world map, so it's good to have a save before that so you can either level up or get better gear
• Stat giving equipment is better than a little extra HP. Meaning that clothes are a lot better than armor pretty quickly in the game
• Do your own thing. There are going to be a lot of people that come in here to say to make this or that. Just have fun
• Random fights are based on your team's level. Story fights are set to levels unless they're monsters, which will always be around your level as well [I could be wrong about a certain storyline one]

Anywhere there's a "chain" of consecutive battles. There's almost always a brickwall boss at the end (and sometimes the brickwall is after the boss).

iirc faith also affects magic hit rate at least for incoming spells (both good and bad i believe) meaning some1 w/ low faith will be hard to revive w/ the life spell for example

Correct

Damage, Hit%, Healing%, Damage taken, ect. So if you're going to use a lot of Magic users, have them all be High Faith so all your shit connects like Haste and Protect/Shell.

I just thought of a couple more as well

• Magic can hit everyone that is in the AoE and can miss. Summons are 100% and will only hit enemies
• Draw Out is based on Magic power
• There is a growth rate in this game many people don't know about. If you take 10 levels as a Wizard, you'll gain more Magic Power. A knight more Strength. So if you change your Wizard into a Knight, it's not going to be hitting as hard as a Knight that's been a Knight for 10 levels

Yes, that's generally the reason. If you're coasting along and decide to overwrite, you might not expect that battle to be so hard, which can ruin your entire playthrough. I remember sweating bullets during my first playthrough because I encountered the very same situation and only got out with 99% luck crits and such. Of course, nowadays people know the Yell + Accumulate strategy, so good little ubersquires might be able to bootstrap out of a horrible situation.

Are you talking about gafgarion? Becauses you can't unlock dark knight in the original game, thats a WotL thing. absorbing his crystal just gives you a full heal. Unless the PS3 version added that in.

also if you having trouble in 1v1 this enemy, you can open the gate to let your allies in by putting Ramza next to the button of the gate's wall.

I always try and have someone with a few Thief abilities on hand towards the later half of the game. Some weapons and armor can only be acquired via stealing.

You can only get the Dark Knight class in War Of the Lions, you do not need to absorb to crystal to get it and any unit can become one so long as they meet the requirements - A bunch of Mastered Jobs and 20 kills

Absorbing the crystal does nothing. You have to unlock that job the hard way.

wtf is this about unlocking a unique job by absorbing a crystal? never heard of it.

anyway, i'm playing through WotL right now myself. great game. such a better localization than the OG. i attempted to get through the OG version several times over the years and i don't think i ever made it past chapter 2, because i just couldn't stand the terrible localization.

i'm about halfway through chapter 4 in WotL right now, finally unlocked Dark Knight for Ramza, and i almost have all the spells i want learned for my Summoner/Mystic and White Mage/Time Mage.

WotL if you get a character to kill 20 units and absorb their crystals it unlocks Gafgarion's Dark Knight Job. There's some other prerequisites as well like 8 other jobs mastered or something.

You don't have to absorb any specific unit's crystals. Randoms are fine.

Ramza already has a unique class anyway. His Squire is different from the others.

You dont want your magic users to be faster. You want the enemy to go right before you so you can land spells. If you go right before them, the theyll move before the spell lands.

Special classes are special (except for Malak)
Lancers are Leapers who make excellent tanks
Squires are Steppingstones and deserve our thanks
