Male or Female?

Used to be predominantly male but I feel like most games lately have been making the customization/voice acting more fun for females lately so its been more that way.

what say you all?

More often female (though when picking from a few non-customizable options I'll pick whoever has the better design).

Entirely depends on if there is romance options in the game.

Generally I prefer female characters if not, male characters if there is.

if more games let you make effeminate looking males without putting in an exorbitant amount of work, i would go do that but lol

and if making a male character locks me into only female romance options, that's a no from me as well dawg

my fav 3 characters i've made are from FE Awakening, ME2 and Saints Row. man i get so giddy when i just see them

Male with some exceptions depending on the design/VA.

Probably about 50/50, slight lean towards female especially because historically there have been fewer female protagonists in games, but that has started to shift in the last few years

Women tend to be more fun to design because they're allowed to be cuter or more interesting as a general rule

50/50 depending on the type of game.

Multiplayer games Im almost 100% female, single player games almost always male.

Female because they tend to have way more effort put into their design options.

Male, unless the game has romance aspects with no good gay options, then I pick female so I can still have my husbandos.

Romance options are important. I had to make a female Corrin in Fates so I could marry Kaden

it depends

for things like MMOs with multiple character slots I make both

for things like Mass Effect with really good looking presets I usually go with the guy

if it's a weeb game I'm going with the female option because of better outfits

Almost entirely depends on the designs (and voices if applicable), but plot impact/romance options/etc are actually bigger factors when present. In general, I find myself agreeing with the notion that female options generally have more effort put into their designs, which can lean me in that direction. If I don't have a first glance preference on designs, then I just go with the default (which tends to be male in my experience). Overall, it probably comes out about 50/50 off the top of my head.

Of note, if I play a game multiple times, I'll always go with the choice I didn't make the previous playthrough. And if there's any depth to customization, I'm 50/50 on picking which default I like better or spending a fair bit of time actually finding a customization I like without caring about the character's gender. If I can customize multiple characters, I'll generally 50/50 split male/female.

I don't really think of romance so much, granted I honestly can't remember the most recent game I've played with both strong customs and Romance options

Usually male. Not always. Far Cry: New Dawn, I went female. Also Rage 2, but there was no real customization there.
