After back to back mostly dissapointing games taking up my time, I have returned home.

I don't have much to say RN other than Angelica just came back on the scene and BOY did they give her a LOOK.

Just finished Chapter 1. Some really good feels here.

Spoilers / question for this chapter and for Trails in the Sky: It's been a few years and I can't remember, but did they mention the Hundred Days War in FC or SC? I remember the stuff with Louwe and Joshua, but I don't remember any of the background given by Agate. If a knowledgeable boarder could remind me generally about the Empire in Sky, that would be nice.

Non-spoiler opinion: Alisa and Fie's redesigns are atrocious

Yeah, you do. Joshua is even reading a book about it in FC that you can get as Estelle if you ask for it. Said book reappears in CS3 somewhere, either in the library or just as a book somewhere I forget. But even putting that aside the history of the Hundred Days War comes out. The public side mostly in FC due to Cassius's role as the tactician who was behind the counterattack that drove Erebonia out after their blitzkrieg and an expansion of that as well as the real story in SC because of Joshua and Loewe.

The Hundred Days War is discussed pretty extensively in Trails in the Sky.

As for a primer on what you learn about the Empire in FC/SC: Broadly speaking they are presented as an antagonistic force given that they... well invaded Liberl 10 years prior. It's established in the Prologue of FC that Estelle's mom died in the war when the Empire attacked Rolent and that's what had Cassius quit the Army and become a Bracer. Hell, Richard's entire coup (minus Weissmann's influence to push him over the edge) is because he thinks that without Cassius around anymore they need to militarize significantly and get the Aureole to defend themselves should the Empire (or Calvard, but they're presented far more friendlier, the difference in the border gates draw the starkest contrast) attack again.

With Agate his hometown of Ravennue was hit hard in the war since it's near the border and that attack is where he lost his little sister.

With Olivier obviously him being a prince changes things a bit. He eventually provides a bit more insights and it sets up Osborne as the real problem behind the scenes with Olivier being a reform-minded person with a tough job ahead of him. His collaboration with Cassius to get Zechs to postpone his orders from Osborne to invade during the Orbal Shutdown Phenomeon is where Olivier finally starts his conflict with Osborne and is also why Zechs got "exiled" to the middle of nowhere in Nord for CS1/2 since Osborne was displeased he played along with Olivier and didn't invade Liberl while they were defenseless. The whole incident also establishes Osborne has been working with Ouroboros because there's no other plausible explanation for him having a whole division of steam tanks just laying around to take advantage of the situation unless he had advance knowledge.

3rd gives us a bit more insight: We see Osborne/Olivier and Kloe/Lechter meet shortly after the events of SC. Osborne/Olivier basically set the stage for Cold Steel talking about the Noble/Reformist Faction dispute and show Lechter to be working for Osborne and not "just" Kloe's old student council president at Jenis. We also see, form the point of view of an Intelligence Division report, the activities of the bombing of the Bracer Guilds in Erebonia. That incident was orchestrated by Campanella via a Jaeger Corps in order to get Cassius called in during FC so he couldn't interfere during that game. It also is what led to the Bracer Guild being effectively shut down in Erebonia since the Imperial Government refused to let them recover. We also see that Cassius's skill and aptitude in resolving the situation got the Intelligence Division to upgrade him to the highest threat level they possess.

idk something like that, probably missed or glazed over a few points but this is already a big post.

I didn't even know Osbourne was a character in Sky! Just playing Steel is pretty wild I guess.

Still, didn't really feel like I was lost or anything.

He doesn't actually appear on-screen until 3rd. He comes up by name (I think) in SC. I think you have some vague references of "the Chancellor" in FC but I'm not 100% sure.

Heck, with the right party composition at the time, Olivier and Kloe talk briefly about Dreichels and the War of the Lions all the way back in SC.

that post helps a lot, thanks.

the legend of heroes wiki is surprisingly not very thorough (and full of CS4 spoilers) so I'm trying to stay away

yeah the Legend of Heroes Wiki is very barebones but still manages to find a way to spoil CS4 at every turn anyway

At the time I tried to read a summary of the crossbell games after I finished the sky trilogy and before I jumped into cold steel but using that site was useless
