I've only played about 5 hours of it, but from what I've seen, if you want a game like Shenmue 1-2, you'll probably enjoy it.

It doesn't feel like a modern game at all, it has awful cutscene direction, Ryo's voice actor is just as (entertainingly) awful as he ever was, the gameplay is still 95% walking around asking people questions, and the combat system (while different) still seems pretty shallow. I'm enjoying it a lot, though, but I think most of it is out of nostalgia.

Pretty much this. Its Shenmue 3, but made as if no other games have come out in the past 15 years. It feels like the most outdated game of all time, but the perfect sequel to shenmue.

that's hard to gauge because the kickstarter numbers aren't going to be counted in that which is what I assume most of the sales actually went to.
