My jaw literally dropped when I saw Kokichi dead. It betrayed all my expectations about this game.

Then he said "it's a lie" and I just started laughing.

Incredible.

I don't think this is the last we'll see of this revival plot.

Last I checked those bears don't just lie.

I think we'll see this again in the last few chapters. Those kids think it's a sham but I know better.

Two things...

1) This chapter cemented Angie as my least favorite character in the series.

2) I thought the death reveal for Angie was the creepiest one to me in the series. There was something about seeing the dolls all hanging upside down... just was really creepy to me.

For me, this chapter may have knocked Angie down a few positions but not enough for bottom tier. Besides it may have pushed her a bit into Love to Hate territory too, so that makes up for it.

Monokuma reminding everyone that he doesn't lie, and the ressurection thing is still up. You tell them, bear.

Monotaro is making fun of Modonam. Ninja bears are under extiction threat.

Kokichi being agreeable is weird. Something's up.

Kokichi confessed. I don't even anymore.

Bought an upgrade that makes psyche taxi collect letters twice as fast now. This makes the thing somewhat more bearable.

So the whole effigy thing was a set up to pin the blame on a non-countil member? Well, that nails things down.

Kokichi calls Miu a cum dumpster and it's the happiest day of her live. Another normal day on Danganronpa.

I hate how they automatically assume Himiko is innocent. Makes me think it was her. Especially since the last thing we saw her doing before the murder was getting yelled by Tenko for being a wuss.

Oh never mind Kokichi brings it up. This kid seems to always know what I'm going to write here. It's like his extreme cynism allows him to see all possibilities no matter how dark they are, which is the same thing I'm trying to do myself.

Kokichi my friend, discussing Tenko's death is not meaningless, and it's not just because you are being a cruel motherfucker, it's because things don't just happen in this setting without being connected. It's all one puzzle to be solved.

He's giving out the cold, harsh truths though. Himiko did not give two shits about Tenko. That said, it's unfair to Himiko that she feels guilty for not replying to Tenko's advances. You never have an obligation to reciprocate to anything.

Kaito continues to be the best bro.

He has a point, though. If they let Tenko's killer just walk away, the group morale is dead forever.

They bring up the Keebo thing and immediately shut it down. Phew. I thought this case would be too easy. Also I hate myself for not remembering the light could have leaked.

Now they are basically describing the plot of 2-1. You know, so we later prove it was completely different from that.

The section about discussing whether Tenko was killed the moment the cage was lifted is dumb. There are three different truth bullets that debunk it (due to how silly the theory is), and the game wants me to figure out which is the "correct one". Of course, I went through the two wrong ones first.

And now we'll get a rebuttal showdown, so we can use more evidences for the same thing. This is stupid.

Oh it was a different evidence, I guess. The marker stone.

Kaito and Maki bring up the suicide theory. Tenko killed Angie then herself? It's a possibility.

Kokichi won't accomplishything in this game as long as Kaito exists, lol. His idealism is just too OP, even against Kokichi's cynism.

This lie mechanic is a little dumb in practice. It's always just used as a vehicle to push Kaito's "BELIEVE IT" moments since they have no basis on rationality. This kind of thing works on Phoenix Wright because you have someone you were hired to defend, but here it feels forced.

Shuichi, Kaito and Maki are now friends forever. They are even joining forces to lie in court.

She's looking at Shuichi as if she's saying "You better not screw this up, nerd".

"Seesaw Effect". That's a little less random than Ropeway, but not much.

Well that's one convoluted murder method alright.

Kiyo is saying it couldn't be anyone buy Himiko and I think he actually has a point. Unless they cut the crosspieces in every room or... wait, they did! We know that thanks to that Kokichi troll scene.

I think it's Kiyo, then. He didn't suggest the room, but he suggested the seance.

Himiko has been made to suffer so much in this whole game I'm thinking she has a big chance of making it to the end.

"Kokichi will tell you!". Kokichi: naps. LMAO.

Himiko has leveled up! Character development unlocked! Yep, she is immortal now.

Kiyo's goose is cooking. Yet... we have no idea who killed Angie. This is gonna get complicated, I feel.

At least the second hangman's gambit is pretty easy.

Miu installed a camera on Keebo so she could record sex tapes. Amazing.

His mouth is a printer. lol. And Himiko says shes done that before. I'm not sure I wanna know what she's talking about.

"Quit talking about your poop!" Yeah Miu, only Nekomaru gets to do that.

Kiyo confessed. Except this is meaningless because the trial is about Angie.

I'm lost about the motivation, though. If killing Tenko doesn't let him graduate, what's even the point? The only thing I can see is that he set it up in advance and didn't predict Angie's death, but then it happened and he still did the kill anyway.

I want Kiyo to be innocent on Angie's murderer because leaving him alive would be one of the most interesting developments in this series so far.

Oh he says it's because he didn't know about the rule. A little forced, but whatever. These rules have always been made on the fly.

Debate scrums are silly but they are pretty fun. And I love the music.

There's a video compiling Let's Players' reaction to Kokichi's "IT'S A LIE!" and it's pretty incredible.

Tenko was...pretty bad, yeah, but she seems worse because the DRV3 cast is solid overall. If she were in DR1 she could probably end up not in the Bottom 3.

I'm excited to see your reaction to the chapter's conclusion.

Something tells me they're about have a mistrial and they'll just execute Monodam or something.

Sorry, Miu, but "kinky waxplay" is not what transpired here.

Kiyo is losing his shit over Shuichi's theory. I guess he's Angie's killer too?

Oh shit dude has a split personality. Or he's possessed. I did not see this coming.

This voice actor is really damn good.

Kiyo is going to give me nightmares tonight.

Damn there are so many pools of blood in this case I completely forgot there was one on the wood patch. Shuichi was pretty much playing the case for me now.

Also this is the first time I see Shuichi get so confident without needing a push from Kaito. We're gonna make a Kyoko out of you soon.

Kiyo's scream is the stuff of horror movies.

It feels like the comic book sessions in this game are much longer than they used to be. Because, you know, the murders are one or two steps above in craziness. Remember when a dude almost got away with just hitting a victim on the head with a weight?

So far only Kirumi had the guts to actually try and vote someone else even after being proven guilty.

The kubs are giving Monodam the silence treatment. Poor Monodam. I think they will regret that, though.

This motive is amazing.

What is cool is that we can't know if the dude is really possessed by his sister of if he's just delusional. In this series, it could be either. But killing 100 people just to give her ghost friends... damn.

And this sicko will actually enjoy being executed. Damn.

HA! He got exorcised! LOSER!

RIP Monodam. You were completely insane, but you were funny.

He actually took the necromo-thing back. Meh.

Yes, kids, embrace atheism. It's where the fun and games are.

This end scene was very emotional, even I felt like crying myself.

Oh shit Kaito is sick. Guess we're having an epic sacrifice at some point.

True. You rank her alongside the DR1 and DR2 casts and I could see maybe 6 people ending below her. But that's only because of her presence in 3-3. Until then she was just a complete waste of a character slot.

On a side note, Tsumugi is bothering me. It's been three cases and it feels like she has completely avoided interaction with the plot so far. Everyone else is either a prominent character or has had small things to do here and there.

The only other characters who I think made it this far without doing anything are Hina, Sakura and Gundham. And they were all very prominent on Case 4 (plus the last two were the opposite of bland, and even Hina had more of a personality). If Tsumugi makes though another chapter without doing anything, I'm calling Mastermind.

There is another Agatha Christie book this reminding of, which is actually my favorite one. Curtain.

Yeah, that was why I whiffed hard on that case. Might as well divulge who I predicted for each case, going into the trial.

Case 1: Shuichi. And I still thought I was right when the game wanted me to out the culprit until I wasn't. Oops.

Case 2: Miu, but I switched to Kirumi the moment no one cared that Miu only had an alibi for like two 5-minute periods between 8-10pm.

Case 3: Tenko killed Angie, Himiko killed Tenko. I thought Himiko was going along with the seance under the impression that the killer might try to sabotage it in case it would've actually worked. She hid the sickle under the floor, then offered to be the vessel for Angie, because she knew she would be impartial. When Tenko forced her way into her spot, she thought Tenko did it, pushed the board up and stabbed her in the dark. Couldn't have been more wrong on all fronts.

Eh I think I'm more of a fan of AA. It's more grounded in the sense it makes it easier to feel for the characters.

DR is a bit like "look how craaaaaazy this world is", which sometimes works but sometimes doesn't.

That said I'm basing my opinions on the first trilogy. DR1's cast was mediocre. DR2 had good cast but the plot gets worse the more I think about it and the surviving cast at the end was kind of bad too. V3 feels like the best game in the series by a mile.

Watched the Rantaro scene again (I didn't save after the first time) and noticed he's recording the video to himself. Duh. So he had a more active role in making this game happen, though he wasn't necessarily the mastermind. I know think ressurecting him may backfire.

Himiko is now positive. I wasn't expecting that.

Oh so the writing on the rock keeps being increased each chapter. Interesting. I'm not good at anagrams, though.

Only Monophanie did the catchphrase this time. Monotaro.EXE has stopped working.

You can always count on Kokichi to make the killing game procceed against all common sense.

We find Tsumugi's lab. A promise of relevance for Tsumugi, finally?

We get to her her skills as a... bartender.

I've come to realize nobody dies in this game if their lab is not revealed yet. Unless their name is Rantaro. It might be too late to realize this, though. We have like... 5 labs left to find?

Oh hey, Shuichi's Lab. Took long enough. It has a real Baker Street feel to it.

So Keebo gets a lab too. And it's connected to Miu's. Of course.

Keebo hates the sci-fi theme of his lab because he would rather be human instead. Cute.

Only labs left to find are Kaito's, Kokichi's and Rantaro's. Of course, all the people who are hiding things. I guess the silver lining is that Kaito is not very likely to go down in this chapter. Nor is Kokichi. Arguably my two favorite characters right now.

Hot take: Kokichi entered the Monokuma room in the basement and learned the entire plot. He's now this game's Nagito.

So they remembered the meteorites. And some dudebros protesting that people deserve damnation. That's politics for you: there will always be some assholes who side with the meteorites.

So I guess the theme is that the player sees at the start of each chapter what is going to be shown in the Flashback Light of the next chapter.

Kokichi is bringing up how everything is possible in this verse. It's almost impossible to call this game's twists when he guesses them first. If I call time travel or alien invasion Kokichi will probably do that faster than me (and thinking of it both those things are possible here too).

Did some save scumming and got 100% on the monomono machine, for the first time in 3 games. Yeah!

Free time with Tsumugi. She's mad that I don't think she's plain. Lol.

I just had to watch stuff bear incest on TV. Because.

Gonta is sad he's useless so he has made a decision. I don't like Gonta suddenly becoming relevant, he has one of the biggest death flags in the cast.

Ooof, Maki is asking the hard questions. Did Shuichi like LIKE Kaede?

Maki's question prevented Shuichui from going to check on Kaito and catching him vomiting blood. Meh.

Wow the bear love story turned into domestick violence very fast. Took like... 10 hours.

Gonta wants to fight Monokuma. Like Sakura in another chapter 4. But he should know this only works is it is done as a distraction for something else. Such as unlocking a door. Monokuma is immortal. You have to beat him at his game. Unless it's DR2, then you have to beat him at... being a super saiyan. Or something.

Kaito is kicking Kokichi's ass. Took long enough. This dude is 3 chapters overdue of a beating.

Miu has a plan. It might be a good one. If they don't kill her first. The last person who tried to use computers to crack the game died before people even realized what they were doing.

I think this is the chapter where Kokichi gets unmasked. We learn what he really is about. Because I doubt he's the mastermind, so Chapter 4 is a good spot to develop this sub-antagonist.

We train huh... magic poses... with Himiko and Gonta. This is kind of sweet, actually.

Hmm... Himiko is Mahiru?

I love how Shuichi has some amazing monologues about how he needs to save everyone... right after free time sequenes. Gotta save people by betting monocoins and playing yu-gi-oh with Kokichi!

The game FINALLY lets me get a free time event with Himiko. I guess it required her to get her character development first? The conversation is pretty much a copy of early game stuff, though.

Free time with Kaito. I hear a crazy story about pirates and boats. Okay.

The Kubs love story is better than Twilight.

I love how the other characters are keeping up with it and commenting on it, too.

Oh hey, Maki backstory. Kaito almost prevented it by asking what is her favorite spaceship, but Shuichi asked the right question.

Damn, it's sad. Reminds me of Assassination Classroom, too. The main student of the class is a natural born assassin, but in the end he ends up becoming a teacher so he can use his skills of analysing and manipulating people for a good cause. Life is not just about talent, it's about choice and opportunity too. And Maki, sadly, didn't have those.

Man, what a good cast.

Kokichi is planning something. I'm hyped. His evil face at the end was amazing, btw. But I still think he's not exactly serious about it.

The kubs' soap opera has a happy ending. Daaaaw.

Miu is absent, and Kokichi's plan seemed to involve her. Oh, boy.

But free time starts again and the two seem normal. I talk to Miu. She gives me glasses that can watch porn anytime. This will revolutionize classrooms and meetings all over the world.

I give Gonta the wrong gift. Meh. Well I was planning on grinding on some free time events eventually (now that we can skip the early parts of the chapter), so I'll just catch up later this week.

Miu came to show off her plan to escape. Let's see how this backfires.

Everyone is in the lab. Even Kokichi. Hmm.

I don't understand what I just watched. Miu crying and begging in black and white. She is very easy to manipulate, though.

Entering a simulation? Really, Miu? I mean it works in theory but it's kind of a lame way out. Never mind how the last time they tried it didn't exactly go smooth.

A virtual world she just happened to find in there, made by someone else. OF COURSE that's safe.
Someone tell her it's not. Tsumugi? Anyone?

Oh, a virtual world made by Monokuma, of all people. Now this is just suicidal.

I lol'd at Monotaro yelling "Father!" at Keebo.

So maybe this simulator is the "first time" Rantaro was talking about?

Ok this is the dumbest trap scene ever. This cast is acting idiotically for no discernible reason. That sucks.

... Neo World Program? Really?

lol those graphics are silly.

Ok so everybody is inside. I guess this virtual world wasn't used as a murder weapon. Yet.

lol Tsumugi has a point. 8-bit graphics are cooler than this lame 2000s MMO style.

So everything in the virtual world is unbreakable. That makes for some interesting murder case conditions.

This "world" is even smaller than most pokemon game cities.

Ok I think this will take a while so I'm continuing another day.
