What do you think was the first "Gen Z" birth year?

1994 is the last year I feel fairly confident in considering part of the millennial birth range, while 1997 is the earliest year Id *officially* consider to be a Gen Z birth year. 95-96 are a gray area for sure.

I feel like you can't arbitrarily pick a year for this. There's a lot of factors that make people Gen Z or a Millennial. For example, how old were your parents when you were growing up? Did you have significantly older siblings that influenced your interests and ways of life? What sort of older stuff were you exposed to? Were you born in a first world country? Can you remember a time before 9/11?

98. Id say Gen Z defining shit has been very recent.

But I think if your parents are legit baby boomers youre basically a millennial by default. Theyre the generational counterweight, fuck topical culture.

In order:
-In their 40's and 50's, my dad's definitely a Baby Boomer and my mom's at the very highest cutoff for Gen X, so she's either Gen X or Generation Jones
-Nope
-I grew up with an N64 and Gamecube, most of the DVDs and VHS tapes my family had were from before 2000 (when I was born), etc.
-Yes
-No

I'd put myself firmly in Gen Z, personally.

Its tough to have a specific year. I think the ranges need to have overlap (i.e. Gen X ends at 1985 and millennial can start at 1984 for example). A lot of your tastes and behaviors depend on your upbringing. My brother was born in 95 but grew up with two older brothers (myself 88 and middle brother 91) so Id say hes pretty millennial.
