It makes me so sad that the guy who brought me what may be my favorite videogame ever (Subsistence) has devolved into this. From MGS4 on, each game has been an exponentially larger disappointment.

Except the whole tripping stuff and vehicles being garbage on most of the landscape

Also did he say something about the ridiculous amount of repetitive cutscenes because that's a valid complaint too

I've never disagreed with dunky, I think he has a good metric

Fun seems highly subjective. What might be fun to one person may not be fun to someone else. I don't find CoD very fun but lots do. And what exactly is "fun" in video game? Constant dopamine rushes?

The video is super misleading tbh. You wouldnt find yourself in most of those situations unless you really tried to put yourself in them.

Some of his criticisms are fair though like the repetitive cutscenes. But in the games defense they are are 100% skippable or completely avoidable.

Yeah this was a supremely aggravating video to watch. He's playing it like complete shit and complaining about things that he himself is not understanding. "Sometimes you fall into a river". No, you do that if you don't pay attention and scan it first. I mean it tells you that literally the second you see a deep river. You also just don't jump wildly at a rock trying to climb it. This isn't Skyrim.

I turned it off halfway. I also love dunkey.

I think Dunkey is one of the most insightful and honest reviewers around. He's still a reviewer of course, you don't need to arrive at the same conclusion he does.

But at least you know you're getting the true opinion of a person with principles, and not "a little something for everyone 8.5" a la IGN and nearly everyone else who is successful.

They're not avoidable unless you just don't play the game lmfao

I meant the ones he was specifically critiquing like the private room scenes. Those are 100% avoidable with the exception of one or two times the game makes you take a shower/shit/piss

I was one of his early fans (during the League of Legends years) who has watched him all these years. Its genuinely annoying when he intentionally misrepresents stuff and people hand wave it away as a joke or a legitimate criticism.

Game is great, dunno who the f dunkey is, but fextralife quite likes it. Angry Joe also gave it a 7, IIRC. Its an 8 for me. Its great, flawed, sure, but great.

I haven't tripped since, like, chapter 2 lol...the vehicle complaint is semi-valid later on in chapters 3/4/5, but by then you'll probably start seeing a ton of roads that let you skip stuff and you can build the infinitely better zip lines.

dunkey dislikes anything but balls to the wall action and craziness generally. his reviews can be useful if you acknowlege this, but with a game like this it was a given he wouldn't like it and is basically white noise

Idk the genre of the game is itself divisive so IMO its tough to evaluate objectively

I will say that a lot of the defenses of it seem to kind of echo kojimas 'it gets fun after you play it for hours' tho. Like even in this topic I'm not seeing a lot of people saying he's lying or wrong, just that he's misrepresenting the experience because he's bad and the annoyances he's mentioning go away once you understand the game

The problem is his fans take his word as gospel and parrot his opinion everywhere. For a while, you could barely talk about Octopath because people would come out of the wild saying the same things Dunkey said in his video. I like the guy but his fans are awful.

tbh I was completely oblivious to the whole streaming scene until ~6 months ago when I started watching maximillian dood's RE2 playthrough. I also wasn't even aware fextra did any kind of streaming and am more familiar with him for maintaining the soulsborne wikis. >.>
