#53 Hamilton - Satisfied
Rating: 7.1/10 Have I heard this before?: No Nominator: @TheArkOfTurus (3/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3774VI3cT5M More music from a musical I haven't seen, and without any context as to what's going on! (It's about being unfaithful in a relationship??) I'm giving this one a good placement because I love how dynamic it is with mixing up the singing and vocal styles. From a purely musical standpoint, this is really catchy! --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Rating: 7.1/10 Have I heard this before?: No (?) Nominator: @Haste_2 (2/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZZUmIj70_Y This movie seems very familiar, and it's probably one that I've seen as a very young child and just don't remember anything from. There's something really pretty about late 20th century animated film soundtracks that I feel has gotten lost with the newer films (it's more "pop" sounding). Much the same could be said about this one as the other orchestral/movie soundtracks, but the instrumentation is really nice (at the beginning I felt this was going to be another "gondolier song" ;>_>) --- ... Interesting uhh whatever genre this is (prog rock with a '70s psychedelic rock feel to it, but also modern rock influences). Some parts I feel that this goes a bit too heavy on the echo effect, but there are also a lot of really good parts and they keep mixing it up keeping the song fresh. Both of these manage to pack in a bunch of ideas within their short durations. The brief part at 00:16 reminds me of Super Meat Boy/Binding of Isaac music with its synth lead. Overall pretty cool. #49 Ian Anderson - Pigeon Flying over Berlin Zoo Rating: 7.1/10 Have I heard this before?: No Nominator: @SuperbVEVO (3/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZnH4rWxFOg What I really like about this one is how different it sounds from anything else I've heard. It kinda sounds like progressive "soft" rock if that's a thing (oh no is this the PROG ROCK BLOCK??). There's a lot of cool variety in all of the instruments used here. But yeah, the rating being the same as the last few songs doesn't really reflect this, but I feel like this is another point where the songs take a real upward spike in quality!! also BIRD SONG (hi Dire) #48 Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings - Decretum Rating: 7.2/10 Have I heard this before?: Yes Nominator: @NowItsAngeTime (1/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzDjPE9mkIo Whenever I think to myself "huh what anime has the best soundtrack ever?" my mind instantly jumps to Madoka Magica (and also Clannad). Sayaka's theme is one of those songs where I'm always hearing something else somewhere else that sounds a lot like it (hi anime medieval tavern music), then I am reminded of it, so from its soundtrack it has always in particular stuck out for that dumb little reason. Anyways, movie version of this is more somber and has dramatic vocals fitting for the big screen. I think I like the original more, but this is going for a different feeling altogether so I like it too! and we have our first elimination in the top 50 --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

#47 Rotteen - Ignorant to the Void
Rating: 7.2/10 Have I heard this before?: No Nominator: @DireKrow (3/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slze868xkPI Hi Dire for real this time! Suggestive furry art aside, this is actually a good song! Seven and a half minutes long, and this takes advantage of all the time it has, mixing in a bunch of different electronic music styles. I LOVE the dark psytrance intro and the high speed uplifting melodic trance in the middle that makes up the bulk of the song (Umineko soundtrack -> Sora soundtrack basically lol, two of my favorite game OSTs). I feel the quality kinda tapers off in the last two minutes where it sounds like hard electro Owl City (not a dig against Owl City btw), but as a whole this is very good. #46 Mitose Noriko - Party of Seven Witches Rating: 7.2/10 Have I heard this before?: Yes Nominator: @NFUN (3/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOt4zCnGFsE FUN FACT this song is actually VGMC-legal! So Noriko Mitose is one of my favorite vocalists EVER, in fact two of my three favorite VGMC champions were sung by her and one of my own perennial VGMC nominations is also by her. It's no small feat to have been responsible for three of my 10/10 VGM songs! (I love Noriko Mitose!!!) The Party of Seven Witches sadly doesn't have that epic WORLD IS ENDING chanting that those others have, but this still kicks ass and has a really catchy and danceable beat. Sounds more like something from a big cinematic anime (why am I thinking of Madoka again) rather than the VN it's from that I've never heard of outside of the context of this song. But yeah, it's cool, good song! I think I could've probably gotten away with ranking these two a little higher looking back why is NFUN blocked from the message boards --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

#45 Platina Jazz - Sobakasu
Rating: 7.3/10 Have I heard this before?: Yes, but not this version Nominator: @Raka_Putra (1/5) Rurouni Kenshin (or Samurai X as it is known outside of Japan and the US) is one of those anime shows that played on Toonami back when I was a kid, and while I saw bits and pieces of the show and really enjoyed it, I never actually sat and watched it all the way through. And given that the manga author has turned out to not be such an outstanding citizen, it's kinda soured my motivation to do so. The theme song was always a hit, and I'm glad to see it got a full on jazz ensemble playing it! I feel you could play just about anything as jazz and it'll work! Not much else to say other than I really like this classic style of jazz. #44 ARMS - VS Hedlok (Grand Prix) Rating: 7.3/10 Have I heard this before?: No Nominator: @paulg235 (2/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhWlFEx3ETQ ARMS is a new Nintendo IP that I know basically nothing about, so it's nice to see some of its music introduced for my ranking. I actually don't even know if this specific song is in SSBU with the Min-Min DLC, I should really check. Anyways pretty standard rock intro, but its high ranking is based on (and I know this is a dumb reason) that really cool guitar solo that reminds me of some very specific Korean MMO songs that I'd nominate from time-to-time in VGMC, watch it not get any traction, then promptly forget they ever existed. Kinda short, but it at least has one really good thing going for it. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Rating: 7.3/10 Have I heard this before?: No (not before nominations) Nominator: @GameBopAdv (2/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDLaXLrV5Zg Hey, I can finally talk about this song now! (Even though VGMC is already long over!!) This has a bunch of techno instruments/drums/breaks and all this stuff to make me think this is TECHNO but it's actually just a cleverly disguised jazz jam! This song is very representative in the recent shift in taste on B8 these last couple years. More so that it's probably my favorite example anyways. This is another one of those very short songs that feels a lot longer with all the stuff going on in it. Lots of really "proggy" sections but it never dwells too long on them, was glad to see this in VGMC! #42 TimmyTurnersGrandDad - Labyrinth V - The Fallen Capital of Shinjuku - Etrian Odyssey Rating: 7.3/10 Have I heard this before?: ???? Nominator: @banshiryuu (1/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dL-_ZToncfA Oh hey, it's TimmyTurnersGrandDad, a bait and switch mashup VGM artist just like SiIvaGunner. Okay so I know I've heard this somewhere before and it's killing me that I can't put a finger on where (no I'm not gonna cheat and look at the YT comments). Ah I give up, I don't get the joke. Anyways EO music is good (good enough to place #1 in my last topic!) even if it's "fake" remixed EO music, and this one is done well enough to where it sounds like it actually came from the game. woop another elimination before the top 40 --- ... Contrasting with Bitbop, for as long as this song is, it feels like I've already gotten the main gist of this within two minutes, and the rest is just extras. Still, definitely a fan of this style. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

What's great about this one is how absolutely bonkers crazy it is. It doesn't even sound like "music"! (in a good way) All these out-of-the-norm sounds being used for music are giving me B.T. Dutch flashbacks. And to tell you the truth, I haven't the slightest clue how any of this is being done. Then the rest of the song reminds me of Dynamix - Nanohemu, yet another one of those one-off VGMC songs I really loved then just seemingly vanished off of the face of the earth . It has that same dark chiptune sound, making due with more "naturally occuring" chiptune sounds and less of that weird "hum" that new indie retraux has a lot of, but still adding in EDM beats lol (if that makes any sense). Definitely a distinct style of using chiptunes, and one that I enjoy. #31 - Rating: 7.7/10 Have I heard this before?: No Nominator: @handsomeboy2012 (1/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7B39htJHGA Let me start this writeup by pointing out the one glaring negative of this, and that's that it doesn't have a really cheesy but still cool in its own way video like the other Hong Kong rock songs nominated by handsomeboy2012. Rating: 7.7/10 Have I heard this before?: No Nominator: @TheArkOfTurus (2/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3C5qnG0GLfI OKAY so this one I've actually had a very hard time finding a place to rank this. I actually had this as rank #34 not too long ago, but decided it was too low (yes even though I said I wouldn't be altering placements anymore), and I'm still not too sure I have this placed high enough. It's a very catchy tune that I keep finding myself coming back to (even moreso than stuff I have placed higher). THIS IS A VERY COMPETITIVE TIER anyways cool prog rock song and I love the intro especially. This is a really new and refreshing style of music I'd love to hear more of! Despite being nearly 7 minutes long, this actually feels really short somehow. #29 Noragami - Noratan Rating: 7.8/10 Have I heard this before?: No Nominator: @pyresword (1/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=230NWoF-vS4 I have seen hundreds of anime and am quite familiar with anime soundtracks, but I've never actually watched Noragami (wow with this and Aria maybe I really haven't seen all that many shows ;>_>). This song is absolutely bonkers, gotta love when I'm watching a show and some crazy song out of left field just starts playing (I do not know the context behind this). I have weird tastes, but this is actually cool as hell lol --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

#28 Yuzo Koshiro - 4operators
Rating: 7.8/10 Have I heard this before?: No Nominator: @Toxtricity (2/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdOFYW0pbp8 Yuzo Koshiro again! My last topic's winning song was composed by him! I've been over this before, but Yuzo Koshiro is my favorite VGM composer of all time, primarily for how diverse his portfolio of works is and how he can basically make music in any style and make it sound great! Definitely a lot of his "signature" style in this too, hearing a lot of Streets of Rage and Etrian Odyssey in this one, but also with a very "'70s prog rock" feel to it too. Man there's just something cool about that FM synth organ --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

#27 Cryptovolans - parralelogram
Rating: 7.8/10 Have I heard this before?: No Nominator: @Toxtricity (1/5) Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4dOZ34DvvM SO, I was meaning to post this one in the same post as the last one for comedic timing, have a double strike and eliminate someone with two songs left in one post, but I got sidetracked (more importantly, there is A LOT to break down in this song, lots of stuff going on here!) This song, more than being just one contiguous song, feels like a bunch of very distinct sub-sections all being connected together, so let's go through each piece. Okay so starting out, we have another MIDI tracker song here, already reminding me of those FCFF songs from VGMC (thanks for putting these together Mycro!!) First minute has a bit of a slow start with not much to talk about here, before adding in a cool prog rock organ. What I really want to talk about here though is that little melody at 1:38. The section with the super cheesy electric guitar and drums, sounds like something from The Lion King or some other '90s Disney VHS tape lmao. I feel like I am being musically TROLLED by this (not ragging on it or anything, but it is the most memorable part of the entire song) Next let's throw in some jazzy riffs on the electric guitar and rock organ, then start playing Dream Theater - The Dark Eternal Night on the MIDI xylophone for good measure, and of course what kind of song would this be if we didn't immediately follow it up with the Old School RuneScape MIDI flute. Rest of this song is more prog rock stuff that is too deep for my musically inept mind, but the sheer number of instruments is appealing (with special preference towards the usage of synth pads and orchestra hits) very cool --- ...
