I don't know much about it.
Basically any video site that has kid friendly videos (and kid friendly in this case is over reachingly broad and can refer to pretty much everything fiction) cannot give revenue to those videos as well as make it as difficult as possible for people to find those videos. So Poketubers for example will no longer be allowed to receive money from their videos and said videos will no longer show up in recommended section or in search queries. They'll basically disappear.

A bunch of noise and whining, then either nothing will come of it, or Dailymotion (based in France, where the FTC and COPPA don't matter) suddenly gets very popular very quickly.

I don't think the issue is the legality or the policy behind the changes Google is doing so that they don't get fined again; it's the enforcement part that would be worrying to content creators. YouTube is notorious for automating essentially everything and has a very negative reputation for "testing in production" and generally ignoring damage caused by false positives.

Same with France. A good 95% of Japanese media falls under what the FTC would call in their stupidly broad definition "kid-friendly", including most Nintendo games.

It's not being talked about right this moment because a bunch of people have done research and seeked legal counsel and have concluded that this isn't the apocalypse that it's been hyped up to be. It's still cause for concern because making videos strictly for kids is just not gonna be a lucrative business anymore (so channels like Ryan's World are screwed, pretty much), thus hurting kids' content to the point where all they will see IS the more mature videos (like how weekend morning cartoon blocks effectively got the can in place of news and more mature shows). But the majority of content creators shouldn't be affected. And if you do get struck with a fee that you felt wasn't earned you can always legally fight it. But that'll be few and far between.

I do think this new system should be reworked a bit because it'll do the exact opposite of protecting children, but again, it's not an apocalypse for everybody on Youtube. Even FTC members say that there's lots of content on Youtube that is family friendly that will not be considered on the "for kids" spectrum. So all that will be safe. And besides, Youtube and Google caused all this to happen in the first place due to allowing data collection to be done on children's videos. That's shady as all hell.

FTC said clealr that they will target and hunt down content creators, and their definition of what is for kids is so vague so nothing is safe.
It doesnt matter if your video is about a childrens toy or an expensive collectors item, if it looks like a toy for somebody that dont know anything about it, it will be a toy and thereby for kids.
Is it animated? Then it is a cartoon and thereby for kids. It doesnt matter if it is a South Park clip of Randy killing Winnie the Pooh, it is a vartoon and thereby for kids.
Videogame? For kids. ESRB rating doesnt matter, it is for kids.
Fantasy? For kids. Doesnt matter if it is Games of Thrones, it is fantasy and thereby for kids.

YouTube will most certainly have bots doing the marking. Bots programmed to recognize what needs to be marked but not context, who most definitely be using the logic above for their markings. Thinks may get better over time but there will be massive collateral damage in the meantime.

If you're really that concerned about it, then here's a couple links to follow. I've already done my part on these, myself.

- Leave a comment about your concerns with COPPA. They're allowing public review before it fully passes. Just keep it civil.

- A petition against COPPA as we currently understand it. I know petitions are usually shite at getting things done, but it's here.

BOTH games explicitly has a warning when you start them, that you "Have to be 14 or older to download and play" AKA outside of the age range Coppa targets.

Yet because of how vague it is, i cant see how those 2 will be avoided... hell im worried and i dont even have ANY ADS on my videos whatsoever... and i plan to keep it that way.
