Jim Cornette is out at NWA. The company just announced the longtime announcer resigned the morning after his crazy racist comment streamed on the internet.

NWA issued a statement ... "Effective immediately: Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance. As an announcer on the November 19th edition of NWA Power, Jim made remarks during a singles match between Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch that were both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance."

"To ensure that such an error can never happen again, we've established new procedures of review for all NWA programming going forward."
"We sincerely regret our failure in this regard."

The longtime wrestling commentator said some insanely offensive stuff during an episode of "NWA Power" ... and it's so bad, the company has PULLED the episode.

Cornette was calling a match between champion Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch -- when the announcer tried to praise Murdoch for his toughness ... and went super racist.

"Hes the only man Ive ever known that can strap a bucket of fried chicken on his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia."

He only got fired because certain folks have been trying their damnedest for a while. They claim it's because racism, but it's really because he shits on a lot of modern wrestling/wrestlers. That's it. A lot of modern fans act like a cult and insulting their favorites is akin to blasphemy.

Oh, that's the comment. I'd heard it, but assumed it was something from 10 years ago when he was playing a heel commentator.

I think it's a case of him not catching up with the times. In wrestling, the bad guys used to be racist and sexist as fuck. That continued until fairly recently. I think JBL in his early stint as a commentator was the last bad guy to do casual racism on the microphone -- comments on Latinos coming into the US illegally and being a detriment, claims that Jimmy Wayne Yang couldn't be a redneck because he's Asian, etc. That would have been about a decade ago give or take.

Cornette has always had a problem when it comes to crossing the line. Mainly, he seems unaware that there is one if you're playing a bad guy character. Case in point, he got the lights turned off on him back in the 80s and had to repeat a promo because he said that a certain babyface's chances were going to "go up like the Challenger." Dusty Rhodes brought him into the office, told him not to mention the Challenger, and sent him back out to reshoot his promo.

Is he a racist? I don't know. I don't think so.

He was playing a bad guy character, right?

It is a fascinating dichotomy between what Cornette said and the consequences that followed, versus what Vince McMahon said back in 2005 on national television.

People have been trying to get him fired for his opinions on a lot of modern wrestling and they just can't handle it. They tried months ago trying to make him out to be a sexist, but it didn't stick. They tried to make up some bullshit about him joking about suicide a few weeks ago, but it didn't stick. Now they got this and it worked.

It's the hardcore indy/AEW fans that hate him because he criticizes how silly and obviously phony a lot of modern wrestling can be and he's criticized beloved indy/AEW wrestlers for various things mostly for being silly and making wrestling overall look like a joke.

He's the biggest wrestling fanboy ever. He's got a huge collection of wrestling memorabilia from the past. His office is like a museum. He takes great offense to certain folk making a mockery of a profession he loved and put blood and sweat and tears in. He can go overboard sometimes, but most of his criticism are valid. Certain wrestling fans couldn't take that and wanted him cancelled.

I know he hated ECW and criticized The Wrestler movie.

I recall he said it wasn't a bad movie but didn't like how it showed how some wrestlers become washed up bums.

Hated ECW because guys were intentionally beating each other to death.
