guns have been illegal for non-military use in the USA for 15 years now, but many criminals still have guns, although not a frequent sight.

BUT you get:

-$70k a year starting.

-same benefits

-standard issue Kevlar suit to wear under the uniform.

-bulletproof vest.

-gauntlets, shin guards and helmet made of fiberglass and kevlar.

-shock baton w/ pepper spray switch.

-dart gun /shock darts.

-rubber bullet shotgun.

-riot shield that can be strapped to your back like a shell.

-disposable chloroform "wipes" lmao

a dangerous job is a dangerous job. but would you be any more or less compelled to join the police force?

Honestly wish cops were not allowed to have guns.

Sure SWAT, Detectives, FBI, Special Forces, CIA, Body Guards, Bondsmen, Military, random toddlers, can still carry guns. Just not cops.

Cops get too scared and just kill everyone. They should only be allowed non lethal bean bag guns.

we should only allow veterans to be cops, and let them observe military-grade rules of engagement, which seems to hold soldiers to higher behavioral standards than typical cops

I was a cop without a gun for a little while. Never found myself thinking that a gun was necessary. I only drew my asp twice, and on only one of those occasions did I actually have to use it.

Unsurprisingly,. You would find statistics do not agree with this outlandish statement

There was something like a hundred million US police citizen contact across the US last year with 990 or so police shooting. With probably close to a percent were justified shootings IE: school shooter. And were actually down this year by about 80 police shootings.

So if we have lets say 100 million police contact throughout the country a year, 900 people were shot and killed and a vast overwhelming majority were deemed to be good shoots.

I would say police do not kill everyone

I would say police do not kill everyone

I have been held at gun point by police multiple times. Every single time over nothing.

-When I was 19 and car broke down and had to walk to get groceries. They accused me of breaking a near by alcohol bottle on road and stealing the pb&j and bread. While holding me at gun point.

-When I was 15 and jogging 10 miles to prep for marines. They made me get on ground, emptied my pockets, pointed a gun at me for 10 minutes while they randomly yelled at me.

-When I was 22 visiting home from Marines. A cop pulled me over. I asked him what I did he said nothing. Like 8 more cops show up. They all have guns on me. He is all cheering and keeps asking me about and a bank and a scratch on corner of my SUV. I keep telling him I do not go to said bank, and my ex gfs Dad caused scratch on SUV. He keeps laughing and starts to put me in hand cuffs while they point guns at me. Then a girl cop shows up and says the robber had a silver car. They say nothing and just leave.

-When I was 28 they said they finally caught me, told me to get out of car, made up all these stupid crazy lies up about drugs and that I should admit it or it will be worse, had a female friend with me who was terrified as he had gun right up to my head. I told him I had no idea why you cops hate me. He started bursting out laughing saying "ohhhhh you know why!"

-When I was 26ish I was helping my brother with something at a social security building. The cop was struggling to open the door because of preasure for like 30 seconds. I reached around him and opened door. He grabbed my arm and pointed gun at me same time.

-When I was 30 and reading some safety precautions on a walmart bulletin board at Walmart, while waiting for my wife to come out of bathroom with our daughter. A off duty cop starts screaming at me he knows what I am doing. Pulls out a gun and calls over Wallmart staff to go get security. I tell him I am reading the board waiting for my wife and daughter. He starts screaming for me to get on ground and I better just wait because i am going to get mine. I told him I have no idea what he is talking about and if he just waits my wife will be out any second. He starts swearing and laughing and says I am the reason people like his wife has to be scared to use the rest room and says he will shoot me if I do not get down. Right at that moment my wife and daughter came out, and my terrified daughter came running to me. Then he goes "oh never mind" and dismisses the security that showed up.

Some notes

-I have never commited any crimes (unless you count using old roms/emulators)

-I am a health freak and do not even drink soda or coffee let alone drugs. I even refuse pain killers and most medicine (minus antibiotics).

-they think I am a criminal because of my huge size
(quite muscular) and hair style (bald or very long).

There is more bad annoying cop stories I have but those events they did not point a gun at me.

Cops are to undertrained and gun happy to be holding guns and threatening lives.

Ive had similar experiences with cops, though I have had some good ones as well.

Lol I called police one time. I let my mother in law stay with me, and her adult son. Robbed my daughters stuff and sold it, robbed my wife and her stuff, threatened to hurt my wife with a weapon while I was gone.

I asked them to remove him from the property and put a restraining order on him.

They instead made me leave MY HOME and told me not to go anywhere near him for 24 hours until I calmed down and that they would be "watching me."

He robbed me blind durring that time.

BUT lucky for me the asshole got caught robbing some old womens house 2 months later and went to prison for 8 years because he had a weapon and she was home while he did it (was his girlfriends grandma).

They let him out on parole after like 3 years, but then he broke it and went back.

Oh yeah I wouldnt trust the police to help much in any serious situation. Even with dead bodies or injuries or whatever the police show up but theyre not the ones removing the corpses or giving first aid.

When I said positive experiences I meant like a couple times theyve driven me home when I was passed out drunk somewhere.

Mostly Ive had guns pointed at me and had my head bashed in for doing nothing or even for doing a good deed.

I never had my head bashed because I wouldn't let them. I kept my body quite hard and still when they would yank and push and grab at me. I guess I never experienced a nice cop because I don't drink.

The stories that the user you responded to stated are what we call anecdotes. They arent statistics that can refute what @darkprince45 stated about the gigantic gap between police-citizen contact and police shootings.

Yep, the one time I got beat up the worst was when I was wearing a beater and sweat shorts (I had to rush out of the house to go pick up an intoxicated family member so I just threw whatever on).

guess i'm lucky. shootings around here are very rare. though police do job around here dealing with the homeless, domestic disputes and traffic stops

there was one shooting incident that imo wasn't really justified though he did have guns on him at the time (police had to treat them as loaded) suspect didn't have any time to react after 3 seconds before they blasted him after warning him to drop the guns.

it was even on the news.
