I bet we die first. Plus that would be a divisive issue like racism

Was just reading Carl Sagan and he thought that would be the case, millions of years from now. But he prefaced it like 100 times that we could die before then . Wasn't meant to be "racial" either, just basic biology

We are constantly evolving, but also, we'll never notice because the process is too gradual.

We're getting taller overall, with bigger skulls. Too bad we can't fine tune things.

I know what you're saying, but aren't we the same species? And with a global gene pool, open/accessible resources, a right to food and medicine... we're not going to have the full Darwinism like animals have

We already have, mutants are already here.

Behold, I can change my belly button from am innie to an outie at will!

I can jump start a car with my nipples!

Behold the might of my superior, evolved genetics and tremble homo obsoleto.

How long until we evolve into something unrecognizable from our current forms?

I mean we were all basically tadpoles at one point according to evolution

Oh sure, when it comes to Darwinism, we broke the meta. Survival of the fittest doesn't apply to us like it has to all of life since it began on this planet.

Maybe after a looooong time. But there aren't really many environmental pressures that encourage it. And we would probably still refer to ourselves as humans unless we take the time to compare DNA records of our future selves to our modern selves and determine we are a new species.

We are the end of evolution on this planet. Do you think anything else could eventually reach the heights of humanity? The planet will be destroyed by us before any thing else could possibly rise up.

I should clarify I'm talking about humans transitioning to something we'd recognize as another species. But we have seen human evolution in other ways. Lactose tolerance is a pretty major example.

Splitting into different species? It's not impossible, but I don't think it'll happen unless and until we colonize other worlds. In a very short amount of time (relative to the timescales evolution works on, anyway), we've mastered two skills that seriously disrupt natural selection as we know it: moving people between any two points on the globe, and adapting our habitat to suit our needs rather than the other way around. Earth just doesn't offer the necessary isolation, variation, or challenge for us to drift apart that much anymore. Space, on the other hand, and the other worlds therein? That might do the trick.
