The requirements go down the higher your support with them is. Ferdinand is the only really tough one because you can't B support him until after the time skip and he wants a worthless skill.

Even so, even raising everyone's support seems hard. Or do I just smother them with gifts?

Yeah, that's pretty much it. There's enough ways to raise support that if you're diligent about it you can recruit everyone fairly easily. Gifts are the easiest because you get more money in 3H than you know what to do with anyhow.

I see, so there's no limit to how many gifts you can give to people any given free time?

Early on I assumed they would just accept one gift at one time, then I tried giving someone two gifts and they accept them anyhow.

New game plus lets you carry over support levels.

First playthrough I didn't know how to recruit. Only had Sylvain (because I'm a girl, he joins for free), Ingrid, Annette and Ignatz besides the Black Eagles. Oh and the church people because most of them join for free on Silver Snow. I only used Shamir, Catherine and Seteth though of the church people. Oh and Flayn, I used her too.

New game plus I recruit everyone. (Buy up to a B support and the students will randomly ask to join you. This even works for Ferdie BTW)

Yeah, higher support levels lowers the requirements for recruiting but the real key to it is that once you hit B support with someone there starts to become a chance that they will approach you on a random day and ask to join your house... and this ignores the stat/skill requirements entirely, you just have to accept.

Caspar and Ferdinand are the only two who have their B supports locked behind the timeskip so throwing gifts at everyone else (growing tons of flowers when possible helps give you a ludicrous supply of them) can make it happen. I picked Black Eagles and got everyone on my fresh NG playthrough (though this allowed me to avoid the issue with Caspar/Ferdinand by having them in my house to start, but I didn't know this at the time.)

At least Caspar needs something that Byleth is good in, though it's still a mostly useless skill if you're female Byleth. Ferdinand was the only one that I was really going up against the deadline for, and it probably wasn't helped by the fact that Alois and Gilbert disappear for a month near the end.

Honestly, getting Heavy Armor to C for the Weight -3 ability can be worth it to a certain extent anyway provided you commit to it early.

I don't even have anyone as a Heavy Knight (or Falco Knight), but Hilda does have C in Heavy Armor. Weight-3 does seem like an interesting skill to play with.

The class progression system here is a bit weird since it's not all cut and clear entering the Master level jobs. Suddenly Assassins and Snipers need to learn Riding and Lance to become Bow Knights, and Swordmasters need to learn Reason to become Mortal Savants...

Okay so we're preparing to siege the castle. Well, more like infiltrating, really. Claude is gonna cosplay as Edelgard and the rest of the party will don Imperial uniforms. Oh, and the Death Knight will be there. What could go wrong?

Both Felix and Ignatz are Mortal Savants now and despite the FE: 3H topic's title I find them fine enough to use? I did have Ignatz wear the Crit Ring and he just wrecks stuff quite reliably now. Though the class skills are so basic.

Lys became the first to master her Master job (Gremory(?)) but eh the skill is kinda stupid, I don't like keeping my units below 25% HP.

Alright, we defeated Edelgard!
To be honest, the previous battle with Hubert and Death Knight was more precarious. I had to gang up on Death Knight, he got a crit and killed Cyril once (but thanks to the 11 Divine Pulse it wasn't a big deal). Aaand Hubert could have one-shotted Leonie with his Gambit, but it missed. Those Boltings were annoying though.

Also I got to see Dorothea again and she looks gorgeous (I didnt even initiate combat with her so she lives another day). I think the only one I haven't seen again is Annette? Though I could have forgotten/missed someone.

But all is not over. Hubert left us a letter, telling us of people who snuck in the dark. Rhea is fine but it seems the legend of Nemesis was nothing like the truth. And now we set out to Shambala to massacre the enemies of Fodlan for good. Onward to part 3!

...or so I thought, but turns out we're STILL in part 2, Verdant Wind. Just how long is this game?

Not that I'm complaining, but my units are reaching mid 40s, which is already higher than previous FEs I played, and some of them have even mastered the Master jobs.

Forgot to say but Petra was also terrifying with her crazy avoid and the threat of crits, so we took her out first.

So Felix can have a friend after all. I guess that's good.

And the evil dude summoned IBMs on us but Rhea turned into dragon and stopped the one coming straight at us.

She's hurt bad.

And there's this chained coffin thing and a daddy broke out of it.

The Death Knight isn't really that tough at this point in the game because he doesn't have a skill that neutralizes effective damage which means Lysithea can just blow him up with Dark Spikes T. The biggest challenge is making sure she doesn't get killed by his allies afterwards.

Okay, onwards to the final battle!

But first, the ring...
The thing is, I kinda want my students to hook up with each other. Catherine and Shamir likewise.
Alois has a family already so yeah, I ain't touching that.
???? is...uh...yeah, what the heck even.
So that leaves Flayn and Manuela. Flayn is endearing but it would be awkward having Seteth as father in law.
Manuela it is!

(Though in an ideal world I would've preferred Caspar.)

I did see the semi-transparent portrait but it eludes me what that ending would be like.

So...yeah, I finished the game.
The final battle had interesting ideas, but in normal it was a steamroll lol. Well, I had to strategized to take out Nemesis in one turn so that part was pretty interesting! Rallies, Special Dance, and Break Shot came into play. Raka nearly killed Nemesis and would've if I hit a critical. But as things went, Lysithea did it.

We get a snazzy cutscene of me and Claude taking Nemesis down. Then peace came for all.

I found Manuela away from all the festivities. I proposed to her and she accepts quite adorably.

AND NOW TIME FOR MY FAVORITE PART, THE PAIRED ENDINGS

I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW HAPPY I AM TO SEE CASPAR AND ASHE HAVING A PAIRED ENDING YESSS OTP this is so hot *ahem*

Catherine and Shamir also got their paired ending, though this one is more expected! Yay friendship!

Felix and Alois got their solo endings, which was not surprising and quite fitting, all things considered. I'm happy that the Knights are more unified than ever under Alois' command.

lol Lysithea got the paired ending with Hanneman. I'm glad they found a way to remove the crests though! And I can definitely see Lysithea as a scholar, so yeah, good for her.

Hilda got hitched to Cyril. Alright, I like that he can help build bridges to Almyra.

Raphael's sister married Ignatz so now they're all family! Sweet! It's amusing how Maya ran off to be an artist tho, poor Raphael!

Seteth and Flayn ran off together to live in seclusion once again, only returning centuries later. Interesting idea for a fanfic I suppose.

Lorenz and Leonie together makes me happy. He's not so snooty now, and the noble-mercenary couple does cover a lot of ground, expertise-wise.

Claude is marrying Marianne. OK, but not too interesting.

And finally, I married Manuela. It actually works really well due to her considerable connections and I'm happy!

Overall thoughts later.

Okay, so FE3H.

Gameplay-wise, it is definitely interesting to be able to use any weapon you want with any class with careless abandon. And even class change is actually determined by weapon proficiency rather than the other way around. It really changed up the way I approached weapon usage.

However, it does make the classes feel less unique. Since access to different weapons was one of the biggest deciding factors in choosing which class promotion to take in previous FE games.

The battles are...alright, I guess. Though more unique win conditions would have been welcome. The Normal difficulty is so easy (especially later on) that I didn't really have to put much thought during battles. I rarely use Gambits since the game's easy enough without them, but it does add another option in battles.

Skill and Combat Arts customization are...fine. Though some are definitely worth more than others. I never used any heavy knights nor falcon knights throughout the game nor did I feel the need to. Might give them a whirl next playthrough though!

For me personally, where the gameplay came short was the full month of preparation. There just isn't enough interesting things to do during exploration. Could've stolen a page or two from Suikoden's book and have more mini-games, bonus content, or side quests to tide you over. By the last few months I was dreading having to go through the Exploration phase since it was just same old, same old.

The thing about having animated cut scenes is that the devs can't really have a lot of leeway in including other characters than Byleth and the House Leader (since they might've died). So we can't see the other members of the army who've been there throughout our journey.

Character-wise, it's pretty solid! A lot of likeable and memorable characters (at least in the Golden Deer house). The supports are also interesting, though, like the animated cutscenes, they can't include other members of the cast.

Though I do want to play the game again to see what it has to offer, the length and chore of getting through a month of preparation before each battle kinda puts me off it for now. Maybe in a couple weeks or months time I'll be in the mood!
