You probably wouldn't even need a PS5/X-whatever if you have a decent PC anyway

I would. Partly because I hate PC gaming in general, partly because I don't want to deal with Steam's bullshit (or Epic's bullshit), and partly because most of the games I actually want to play either aren't on PC at all, or tend to have worse versions on PC (WB games being notorious for that, for example).

Nearly every single complaint I have about modern consoles or gaming in general is something that PC fucked up first, or that is the direct result of consoles trying to be more like PCs. It doesn't really encourage me to jump in bed with "Patient Zero".

The firat reactions of, The Rise of Skywalker are in, and the film is doing what i thought it would do, which is spend a great deal of time course correcting from The Last Jedi.

I will see the movie early next week, but I assume that the first 45 minutes will be fixing what Rian Johnson broke, the next 45 will be plot, and the final 20 will be rushed climax to tie everything into a neat bow.

I know I'm not wrong on this one. Which is why J.J. should have written and directed all three films in the first damn place. What do you all think?

Grabbed some more blind-boxes. Was in Wal-Mart picking up some other shit and saw The Loyal Subjects' MotU blind-boxes for $10. Even though I realized that Battle Cat and Panthro weren't possibilities (*those* I kinda want), I picked up in the hopes of getting Sorceress or Skeletor (or Mer-Man... although Ram-Man would have been okay) and with the knowledge that, except for maybe Stunkor or Orko, there was no character I really didn't want. Wound up getting Fisto, which isn't a thrilling surprise. At any rate, $10 is a bit much for a blind-box even if the figurines are articulated (and there's not much functional posing with something that size so he's going to stand vanilla on my shelf).

Went over to Target since I was in the area anyway, saw that they had Funko's Universal Studios Horror Mystery Minis (I think I only saw the one box) and Aladdin Mystery Minis. I love the old Universal films and had been meaning to pick up another blind-box (first one I bought -- back before Halloween -- had Frankenstein, which wasn't a top choice but I wound up being happy with it). Aladdin I had passed on simply because I didn't care enough, but figured a few of the characters might be neat. Wound up getting another Frankenstein (what are the odds?! Well, probably 1/12 =x) and the Target exclusive Genie-Jafar. I kinda hadn't wanted the Genie-Jafar (since I already own the Pop!) but... I kinda like the look of it.

Also picked up a Target-exclusive ( wireless Switch controller for $15. I had been meaning to get a rechargeable one (probably the $28 one or whatever third-party one that somebody had mentioned in a topic a while ago), but I figure I could always buy rechargeable batteries or something and that this could have a longer life for having batteries instead of a rechargeable. This way I'll feel safer playing some fighting games since I was worried about wearing out the joycons, which are expensive to replace.

JJ was 90% of the problem with this trilogy, so that'd only make things worse. Honestly, the best parts of TLJ blow the best parts of TFA out of the water, even if the worse parts are a bit worse. TFA was so lousy I almost contemplated rewatching TPM to get the taste out of my brain. The only way to have a great RoS would be to restart almost everything from scratch.

Of course, the easiest TLJ correction would be killing Rose, which takes less than a minute.

After the Todd episode, I had my hopes up for the Simpsons but this week's episode was pretty meh except for the repeated "Baby Shark" stuff... and I'm kinda curious how that caught on. Can't remember when I first heard it.

In other news, trying to figure out what to migrate between laptops. Bought one with a 256gb ssd to replace my barely-working one but, with less space, I obviously can't move everything and some of the stuff I have on the laptops could be duplicated.

I figure at least some of the stuff from my old HP Envy will need to go on my Lenovo... whatever since that has a larger harddrive. Then the more important/interesting stuff *should* go to the new one. However, I'm also thinking I don't need to save everything. Plus I'm not sure if I should concentrate work files on the new one or split it between the new and the Lenovo.

If anything, I'm tempted to still put the blame on Lucas.

Disney handled the Marvel films perfectly. They mostly worked because they had a singular vision, coming from a producer who actually liked the material and was passionate about creating something that would both satisfy comic fans and appeal to a wider audience, while respecting the mateiral (see also, what DC/WB constantly get wrong). Feige coordinated, he plotted things out in advance, and if he needed to rein a director in, he didn't hesitate to do so.

But Kathleen Kennedy came as part of the deal when Disney bought Lucasfilm - Lucas hired her to basically be his co-head before Disney bought the company, and when it was sold, Disney just kept her on promoted to full control. From their perspective, it makes sense - you don't want to rock the boat too badly and disrupt the internal workings of the golden goose, or piss fans off too badly because you're perceived as gutting an acquisition (see also, EA).

It's possible the only thing Disney did wrong is not immediately fire her/replace her with someone better (more capable, more willing to actually take control and not cede total artistic direction to multiple different directors with no end goal in sight, etc). But it's hard to say that Disney had any real reason to suspect she was going to be a problem until after she was already a problem - after which the well is already somewhat poisoned.

Though for conspiracy theory fun, Lucas only hired her to help run his company the same month he supposedly started discussing the idea of selling to Disney, so it's entirely possible he basically got her the job solely so she WOULD fuck up and make him look better by comparison. One last fuck you on the way out the door (along with reediting the Han/Greedo scene again and not telling anyone so no one would know until years later).

I can easily imagine an alternate world where Disney bought the company and put someone like Kevin Feige in charge and the sequels wound up being incredible. You don't even really need to change all that many characters or actors (Rey, Finn, and Poe are fine as protagonists, and they're all well-cast). All you really need is an ending in mind before you start telling the story, and enough creative control over the full arc to make sure you get to the ending effectively, and not spend the middle movie wallowing in metaphorical feces before you have to resort to a desperate Hail Mary play to salvage things.

Reviews have been middling to bad so far for RoS, which makes sense. Seems the consensus is that it looks really gorgeous, but little of it makes sense, there's way too much stuff happening at a breakneck pace, and that it spends half the time course correcting TLJ, the other half ripping off RotJ.

I'll see it probably within the next week, because I hate not finishing stuff, even if the spoilers guaranteed this would be a total mess.

Seeing it handled like Marvel wouldn't really improve it for me. Otherwise yes, planning things out beforehand is always a good idea. And other-otherwise, I'm not exactly wowed by the characters or casting. The only sequel trilogy new additions/casting I liked were General Hux (who was hilarious, especially when he pulled out his blaster then put it back) and Admiral Holdo (whose antagonisms were amusing).

Usually it's a mix of plot, writing, casting, pacing, or the fact that some films feel like they exist solely to set up other films. The first few that came out I kinda enjoyed (well, Thor 1 kinda lagged in places and IM2 was probably the beginning of my disappointment), but Avengers was garbage and everything since then has been hit or miss. At best, most are the same kind of tolerable as a lot of so-so superhero films. I will say that I liked Civil War (haven't seen Winter Soldier) and Thor 3 (haven't seen Thor 2) despite Thor 3 being a madcap mess.

Oh yeah, TRoS is bad. Saw it today. Everything from the breakneck pacing to the fan service cameos makes this for a sloppily made movie. But as expected, Palpatine's existence is the biggest offender. That, and the Force going full-on space magic and serving as a Swiss Army Knife for the plot shows that care and attention to this series has been jettisoned out the window for good. Most of the video games handle the Foce with more tact and respect.

Strangely, I probably still prefer this to TLJ, for if nothing else at least it felt like stuff was happening (even if most of the stuff was wrong or poorly explained).

I thought I might make it to Rise of Skywalker yesterday after work, but traffic was at Mario Kart levels of stupidity due to the holiday, so I ended up going straight home and bunkering down. Will try for the theater again on Sunday.

Speaking of work, it is looking like it is about time for me to switch jobs. The current one has been devastating to my free time and quality of life over the past year, and the added money has not been worth the added stress. ("I'm gettin' too old for this shit, Martin," quoth Murtaugh.) Fortunately, my second job looks like it will be turning into a full-time opportunity, so this transition should be simple. Just have to bide my time.

Granted, it will mean less money (and no health insurance, at least for a good while), but life was meant to be enjoyed, IMO, so long as the bills are paid and the needs are met.
