In my defense, this is the first time I have seen this phenomenon.

I get more talkative the more engaged I am with a subject, and the more I'm trying to make sure the people I'm talking to understand the point I'm trying to make. Which is also why my longest posts tend to be a bit repetitive and involve examples or metaphors - that's me trying to make the same point in different ways to make sure it comes across correctly.

When I'm mostly just responding to simple questions, or being a smart-ass, I tend to be less wordy though, because it's not overly necessary.

It's why I used to tell people, the shorter my post is, the less serious it tends to be.

Zues really needs to stop referring to Netflix as NFI.

https://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/NFI

Notice that there is no reference to Netflix. It is a file type used by the Netflix streaming app but it's not the only file type used.

It's like the rage I'm filled with whenever someone refers to the first Playstation as the PSX. The PSX was something entirely different.

If someone feels the need to differentiate between the original "PS" and later Playstations or the generic brand, just call it the PS1 (even if that's anachronistic). Just don't call it the PSOne (which was also sort of a separate thing).

There are still huge problems with Supergirl. Her stupidity in very obvious situations, the villain of the week stuff can be dumb, and other misgivings. However, last season, not the current one, managed to balance the political stuff, female empowerment, and good story telling at the same time. Therefore, to answer what P.O. asked, the show has improved from it's first season on The CW, but it's still not the beat thing in the world.

And Sunny needs to stop referring to Zeus as "Zues".

Otherwise the streaming service used to be called Netflix Instant, ergo NFI.

I used to ponder getting a PSX back in the day, but it never made it to the U.S. *shrugs* And I never did understand why the PS1 was called the PSX. There is nothing in there to suggest the letter X for the acronym. Ditto for referring to the Game Cube as the GCN. Why is the N there?

Committed a very old school D&D mistake yesterday by misjudging the blast radius of a fireball. Of my wizard, only the pointy hat remained, but all the Undead he was attempting to blow up had similar luck. Entire party had a good laugh at that mishap. ... Will have to play a barbarian next, I think. Wizards take so long to get good in 2nd Edition that I am not sure the class is a good fit for my play style. Was fun while it lasted, though.

I just liked how, when the Acq Inc guys were still playing in 4e, their Wizard used to deliberately cast Fireball centered on the Fighter, so it would hit everyone around him. Which they were actually building up by having a bonus for casting that way, and giving the Fighter fire resistance.

Fun story. Ages ago, there was an MMO called Pandora Saga. For a short time it was run by Atlus, and I got sucked in. I tried to take others from SBA with me, but Raven and...somebody else whose name escapes me at the moment (beef)-related names in-game really stuck around.

Obviously I don't play well with others, and my own guild fell apart quickly. I had short tenures with other guilds, despite actually being the highest ranked Archer on the server as a freelancer for like a year and a half out of it's 3ish year run and that included a 6 month ban...

Long story short, during a brief stint with a particular guild we'd found a way to...use my odd build to essentially break the game. I had what amounted to one of 3 of the strongest bows on the server and one of the only 2 with an elemental + that was worth a damn..

There was an exorcist class which could swap buffs from one player to another. This is where it gets interesting.

I was a str/Dex Archer with gear that was so tanky it was effective on my 2h sword alt. There was a skill where I could basically toggle my ability to move in exchange for a 20% atk boost. I could add poison to my attacks with pots I could make. There were fire and holy elements 2 other classes could buff me with. There was a dark self-buff other Archer builds and assassin's could access. There was a buff for the 2h sword class that boosted atk 20% for 3 attacks, and another that gave 20% for the first swing at the penalty for opening them up to like 40% dmg taken until that swing was taken.

The elemental buffs each had their own % chance to proc my weapon effects which were lightning (stun) and 2 4% chances to slow the target.

You could also get a tank to take your damage for you.

See where we're going with this yet?

A few of us were really, really into theorycrafting to say the least.

Without getting into the particulars of my batshit build and the minutae of my gear...we put a party together with 2 exos, a 'sin, a juggernaut, a tank, a chanter, a summoner, and a mounted pally.

We head down to the PK map with a really really twisted idea looking for a perfect target for shits and giggles.

Who do we find farming mobs right in front of our base on the PK map, but one of the most obnoxious mages from a rival faction farming with his personal follw-tank?

Halconen mode...engage

I give everyone my speed buff, and hit the nest trigger. The tank covers me. The chanter hits me with holy, the mage with fire, the sin hit his dark and the jugg hit his self-buffs. The exos swap the dark buff and the jugg's self buff which I should *never* have onto me. One exo casts the skill that puts an AoE protective carpet around me, the healer buffs my defence.

I run my standard attack rotation and vaporize both of them before the third tick of my arrow rain lands because we got both of them from behind. I hit hard on my own, but with the absolutely absurd attack buffs switched to me...I was doing 3x my normal damage for the first 3 shots off, and like double on the other 3 in the rotation... (Cont)

Had the graphics been accurate to r/l...this mage's corpse and his tank would have been sitting in an 8' deep crater. The only thing that would have been left would have been 2 pairs of smoking shoes at the bottom of the hole.

This of course, was an inconceivable damage stack just moments before. It's 4 hours until the weekly server maintenance. Half the team were SEA players, we farmed for an hour or 2 on a relatively quiet night, and thought nothing of the mage we killed's rants and raves in PM when someone had to pop up to town to dump vendor trash.

Fast forward to post-maintenance. I log in, and instead of finding myself in Varik in the tent I always logged out from, I find myself trapped in "no settings". A map the mods use to test things or for special events...I've been called to the principal's office, lol. About half the party I'd been in that night was already there. An hour or two passes and the entire party is there and we're laughing our asses off.

One of the lead mods pops in once we're all on and more or less demands to know how we one-shot one of the strongest mages in the game. He happened to be a mounted pally. He summons his mount, we go thru the 30 second set-up and blast him. We kill him, and his horse.

His only reaction is "What. The. Fuck?!" And we're teleported to town without a word.

The week goes on with the usual chatter and the entire rival faction murmurring about how we're hackers and cheats...despite merely exploiting an absurd imbalance in the skill sets.

We log in after the next weekly maintenance to find ourselves back in "no settings" fuck.

Once we're all on, the JP devs themselves log in to the N/A server to inform us that we've found a potentially game-breaking exploit that even the JP server hadn't figured out with a 2+ year head start and asked us nicely not to do that in nation wars, guild wars, and the siege battles.

Being the asshole I was, I made no promises, lol. It wasn't something they could really fix, they couldn't really stop us from doing it since it was totally legit using standard game mechanics, and damned if we were going to tell anyone how we did it that wasn't a GM in the game.

The game itself was dead within 6 months due to changing hands too many times and multiple mis-managed updates and such, but a few of us knew we'd basically outsmarted literally every other player in the world at the time and the devs themselves while half the party were the highest ranked players in their classes on the NA server and the other half were in the top 3 in their classes.

For all the time I spent in Pandora Saga, I would hate to have to live in that world. It was a very small world and the story never got a satisfying resolution. I just really liked theorycrafting and you could make some seriously broken gear in that game. Especially if you'd been around since the beta...

I sure as hell could never devote the kind of time to another MMO like I did then, and I never found one after it that wasn't a terribly boring grind where there was only one way to min/Max a build. The closest I've gotten to just flat out breaking a game since then was FFV, and there's no PvP aspect there at all.

At least I can say I was #1 in the world at something once upon a time.

I should have done either of last year's, especially that RDR2 or whatever one with the extra controller I was late on.

So far I did buy Pokemon Shield for $50 from Wal-Mart, which I can always return if I find it cheaper somehow during Black Friday. It's not a price I love, but it feels like less of a ripoff than paying $60.

Hit the end of the run for pretty much everything I had been reading and, tbh, probably going to wait for scanlations to batch for a while before I binge.

A lot of the manga I had been getting into were pretty lousy, like Again!!, Witchcraft Works, and Love Tyrant... all of which I got into because I started to read Kengan Ashura (because I watched the anime which was fun, but also kinda lousy) and kept getting sidetracked.

Fun fact. I can't pull it off in emulation because of input lag, but on an actual NES as of last year I can still run 1-1 and 1-2 to the warp zone to world 3 to set up the infinite lives staircase on 3-2 blindfolded on muscle memory.

Speaking of the NES, I have been playing it again. Stuck it to Jaws in the game of the same name, but I am also having a go at Air Fortress (i.e. the game HAL Labs made before they came up with stuff like Kirby and Smash). Requires more careful planning and resource management than I remember from back in the day, but this is a good thing. See also: Section Z. There is something refreshing about doing a map by hand to reduce the amount of trial and error in getting to the next stage.

Certainly makes a difference with games where the internal battery managing the save burned out... although I guess it'd also depend on the game. MMZ3 would make sense, MRA2 would not (since it'd have to remember a lot of monster information).

And it's worth noting that in the most recent MR game (I *think* MRDS is the most recent, excluding maybe the MMO or mobile game that wasn't released here anyway), there's a mechanic that punishes saving (basically it impairs a monster's stat growth) so it foils what amounts to save-scumming for maximum results.

Maybe I'll skip getting LBP3 from the BBuy sale. I still have LBP2 to play... and I'll have a bunch of other ps4 titles as well while not having much time to really devote to a game. Definitely grabbing Bloodborne, that new Spidey, and... idk, tempted to get Yakuza 0 despite having never played a Yakuza game and probably owning a Yakuza I haven't played. Really, I shouldn't be buying anything except maybe the ps4... and still undecided whether to get the deal I see there ($200 for the system with 3 games - new GoW (which I care about), Zero Horizon (intriguing), and Last of Us (which I own on the ps3)).

Granted, I really liked the original LBP and, if I was 100% sure that I didn't own the ps3 version of LBP3 (instead of 90% sure), I probably would just go for it.

The fact that I'm kinda holding out for the extra controller is in itself silly since I haven't played locally with another player in years

Oh, after watching some more of Yakuza 0's gameplay, I'm not feeling it. I might just watch the cutscenes or gameplay instead of actually playing.

I can't speak for Yakuza games post-PS2, but from my experiences with the PS2 games, it's like playing Shenmue without the QTE minigames at every turn. The combat can get repetitive, but no more so than the basic variety of PS2 GTA missions.

I'm in the midsle.of prepping Thanksgiving dinner. I'm scrubbing pots and pans, and the dishwasher is constantly going right now. It's just Wednesday, but I plan on doing the cornbread and sausage dressing today, and the potato salad as well, because it can hold over night, and cold potato salad is better than room temperature potato salad. The rest will be cooked tomorrow, and that's mac and cheese, green beans, and mashed potatoes.

I am not cooking a Turkey because I don't really like Turkey, and the effort to keep it moist, juicy, and delicious is not worth the final results. My father in law is smoking a Turkey in a smoker over pecan and hickory for like 12 hours, and I will eat that. (Eat that on leftover sammiches)

I'm cooking a ham, and a roasted chicken which I already have in a Brine. So that will be enough. Sides will be roasted Brussel sprouts and sweet potato casserole.

I'm traveling for Thanksgiving which I really don't want to do because I've had a few injuries lately and a long (probably 3 hour+) car ride sounds like hell. At the same time, I kinda feel like I have to go. And, if I don't, I'll be stuck alone for Thanksgiving, which would also kinda suck. Not sure what's the worse option out of the two. FML either way.

I get to make banana pudding. I do this for the family gathering every year because it involves instant pudding and thus cannot explode.

As for the Yakuza games, the best use of the formula that I have seen to date is still Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise.

I still don't value digital as much as physical. Was balking over buying some digital downloads from the 3DS e-shop although, logically speaking, it's also a matter that some of those titles I already own on other systems. I'm buying the 3D version of Altered Beast despite having it in the ps3 Sega Collection (and I could have got it in the 3DS Sega Collection, although I'm not sure that's the same version?) and I'll probably wind up buying the 3D version of Streets of Rage 1 (already have SoR2 on my 3DS). idk, maybe I should SoR1 again on the ps3 before I do that. Altered Beast is a kinda lousy title but I liked it for the transformations. Still ticked that the ps2 version or whatever never made it to the US.

Otherwise BBuy sold out on that ps4 bundle so I guess I'm buying it from Gamestop (need to fix my card later). Also picking up that new YGO game for the Switch (Duel Masters Legacy or something) and KHIII which I realized was available for $15.

idk, this is going to be a more expensive Black Friday. I'll be getting that ps4 bundle (90% sure; $200 there), a laptop or pc ($300~600), and I think I might be at $150-250 in games right now (or knock $50 off if not counting Pokemon Shield). Meanwhile last Black Friday I'm not sure I finally wound up doing much of anything (although I'd *meant* to get a ps4 then, too)

Again, not sure when I'm going to play half of this. The only thing I'll probably get to pretty quickly will be YGO since it's pick-up&play.

I wish it'd been something like that where at least there was pleasure before the pain but no, just all pain. And auto ero isn't going to give you the kind of injuries that make it hard to drive anyway.

Still figuring out the laptop. Had been tempted to also just grab that $90 Chromebook as a side device, but Amazon sold out, I guess.

Also been playing Altered Beast and thinking about all of its shortcomings. Among other things, there doesn't seem to be any way to heal in the game nor can you get extra lives. Plus there's no option for continues. In some ways, it's good in that it forces you to improve your gameplay, but it's also a massive inconvenience.

I will say that I like the random transformation choice, especially since the were-tiger, were-bear, and were-dragon are all way better at beating the first boss. And, in general, the were-bear is surprisingly good at stomping bosses despite having the worst projectile (instead I just spam cannonballs half the time). When I first played the game years ago, either the werewolf or were-tiger was my favorite. Now I'm kinda leaning were-bear or were-tiger. The dragon is also pretty useful, though.

Apparently the Genesis version had cheats, but I can't seem to get them to work on the 3DS.

EDIT: Nevermind, apparently the B+Start cheat works and gives me level select, difficulty, power/health, and lives. This covers pretty much everything I want... except controlling my beast mode and letting me start off as a beast, but you can't have everything, right?

EDIT2: It started me on level 1, so maybe it *doesn't* give level select. However, the extra health and lives should still be a substantial benefit.

No real Black Friday shopping for me. All I got was a pair of $10 Google Play cards to take advantage of the 25 Orb special in Fire Emblem Heroes.

I am looking at a new laptop in the long term, since I have had this one since 2012 and its features have steadily eroded since then (e.g. I can only play online video through browser plug-ins that drop it down to 240P). It has been good to me, but it is about time to move on. I am hoping to upgrade to a (relatively modest) gaming laptop come tax season in order to take real advantage of my Steam library, though I suspect I will be doing most of my writing on my cheap-o tablet, as I have been doing. (Great Bluetooth keyboard. I love the clicky keys.)

I couldn't find that one laptop in person at BBuy either. Not sure whether to pull the trigger on one from Staples or wait for Cyber Monday.

At any rate, went in person to BBuy, Walmart, and Target tonight. Just picked up some DVDs, mostly, since most of the games were sold out
-Fallout 4 (only game I grabbed) - $15
-Goosebumps 2, dvd+digital - 4
-Kong Skull Island, dvd only - 2
-Epic, dvd only (watched part of it on tv at some point, figured I might as well buy it to see how it ends) - 2
-Deadpool, dvd+digital - 4 (skipped it last year, got it this year)
-Hotel Transylvania 3, BR+DVD+Digital - 4 (own but haven't watched the first 2, I think)

There was a lot of other stuff I considered getting, but I was thinking I was going overboard. Plus a few things, like Detective Pikachu, I'd really want *with* digital (even though I haven't seen it at all). And, of course, the fact that I have a massive DVD queue also factored into things.

I did manage to snag Tales of Vesperua R gir 20 bucks on Black Friday.

That's pretty much it.

Oh, I did watch the first 2 episodes of The Mandalorian, and it's pretty darn good. I highly recommend it for your viewing experience.
