I know Im mentally-challenged. My family and friends know Im mentally-challenged. PotD, to a degree, knows Im probably mentally-challenged.

I just couldnt care less.

It depends on how aware they are. I'm pretty sure there's a spectrum on how mentally challenged a person may be.

I mean yeah... there are definitely plenty of mentally challenged people that are completely aware they are. I'd guess, for instance, that most people with down's syndrome are aware they're different

Also people with aspergers and on the autism spectrum are generally aware

I was afraid of this. Talked to my doctor and therapist about it a few years ago. They both agreed separately that didn't seem to be the case... but still...

I know I am. I have a psychological disorder that can be considered mentally challenged to a sort. also one could consider math learning disability to be that too. I literally can't do any math beyond multiplication and division.

but my main disorder clearly effects my life so I am quite aware of it

Those with mental illnesses know. Even when it's the worse case they probably still know. Most however don't care about things they can't change.

It's mental/emotional. I dont necessarily consider mentally challenged to mean that you're unintelligent

So, this is something Ive thought about and wondered myself. But, then I think of things they usually wont let people who may be mentally challenged do. And since I can do certain things, I feel a little relieved...

Many folk work with folk who have mental issues. The doctors don't do most the work. The family, friends and even random folk do. That's not to say it's constantly talked about or those with mental problems are constantly ridiculed however support networks are important.

I think theres a certain zone theyd probably need to fall into. Theres one where theyre just gone and lack the ability to comprehend anything like that. Theres another where theyre noticeably below average but just smart enough to be in denial. Like Trump or this guy I know.

Some do. The rest try to get into politics.

X_X you're comparing a cat to a human. They have emotions and when they're told they are different their whole lives I think it sets in that they aren't on the ordinary spectrum. I don't think they understand what makes peoples thoughts normal or not normal but in my experience they are aware. Obviously my brain isn't wired that way so I can't say for sure.

Also, cats recognize their names. But a lot of them just dont care, apparently... Though, a good amount do. My cats comes when I call her name. Mostly because she doesnt want to be alone and cold...

They don't need to see humans as other cats anyway. They have just as much ability to love outside of their species as we do. You can be family without being the same species. :P
