I liked it! Good pacing, excellent cinematography, better music than I was anticipating by far. I thought the premiere was disappointingly short though. (It was like 36 minutes long, what the heck.)

New episode this Friday!

Oh wow I somehow missed that they were staggering releases instead of dropping them all at once like netflix.

Guess it makes sense if they believe in the show. Build hype to better promote the new platform

It was fine. The first 8 or so minutes were what you expected from a bounty hunter show, while the last 25 could've been expanded on to set the proper tone, but I'm in favour of more 40 minute shows in general so I hope that's the standard runtime

I thought it was an excellent first episode. There was good action, worldbuilding, costume design, and I sure didn't expect that ending. Can't wait to see where this goes now.

Almost thought that IG unit was going to become a sidekick, he was too cool.

I highly enjoyed this. It had that classic Western style of sparse scenery and dialogue. The feeling of (I'm assuming) outer rim planets definitely conjures that Wild West romantic flavor, and the economy of storytelling was fantastic. Everything presents quickly and with just enough frame of reference to make sense while still leaving a lot unknown, to be fleshed out. I can't recommend this enough. It's kind of what I wanted from a Han Solo movie in a lot of respects.

Also, what the hell Nick Nolte.

I feel like it does a good job of establishing the setting and establishing the Mandalorian as "dude you don't want to mess with." That, plus the twist at the end to get you to come back next time, is pretty much all you want from an intro episode from a series like this.

also please tell me that I'm not the only one who thought that was Lando at the beginning before realizing it was Carl Weathers and not Billy Dee Williams

The Mandalorian himself seems kinda bad at his job as a bounty hunter, but that makes it more interesting to watch

I liked seeing the Mandalorian actually struggle and make mistakes in the second episode. I was really worried he was going to be written as this super badass that can do nothing wrong which would have been awful. We've already seen he can kick some serious ass, but also it's nice to see that he's not perfect, and even smaller stuff like watching him get annoyed and frustrated by the Jawas helps make him a more compelling character. Good stuff.

My one complaint, why does he keep leaving the baby just lying around everywhere? If this leads to a dumb "it gets kidnapped when it's out of his sight for a while" plot point I'm going to be disappointed.

so i watched the first two episodes and i don't really get what everyone sees in this show. it's pretty mediocre. the action isn't good and the main character kinda sucks. baby yoda and making him look so much like boba fett are such a cheap way to get attention.

third episode was a lot better.

Mandos have always worn similar armor, it's a cultural thing, so it's really just consistency to lore and world building and has nothing to do with getting attention. And he doesn't even look like Fett besides "hey that's a Mando."

then why does every other Mando look distinctively different, like the the blacksmith or the dude who picked a fight with MC?

If you look at MC and Boba Fett side by side there are some differences, but if you just see MC by himself he is definitely reminiscent of the Fettman, more so than the other Mando's, and that's entirely by design,

90% of Boba Fett's design is his helmet so of course someone with a similar body shape and a near identical helmet is going to draw Fett comparisons.

I mean I agree that using a Mando instead of a random bounty hunter, and using Baby Yoda, were a "cheap" way to get attention but I disagree that the show is bad.

It's just a classic western show, doesn't need to be any deeper than that. If you're looking for a smarter show look elsewhere because this is just action/fun.

Neither Boba nor Jango were Mandalorians, btw, even culturally like our MC here is. Jango just acquired some Mandalorian armor (probably off a corpse, but I don't think that's confirmed) and used it because its quality stuff.

Jango's origins are vague, he claims to have been born on a Mandalorian planet but the Mandalorian government disavows him. He's probably full of shit, yeah.

I think the other Mandos have proven themselves and earned unique armor pieces, based on how the blacksmith makes main dude a pauldron. Main guy is a nooblet with base armor and with Boba not technically being a Mandalorian he probably has the base armor too.

I'm just not as cynical about intentions behind it. I mean yeah it's by design but it works in universe as well and that's really all I care about.

So good, and call me a sucker but I really believed for a minute that Baby Yoda would be left behind, and it made me sad because it really is the cutest damn thing ever. Even though I knew all along there's no way they could stay there since the trackers are still active, it doesn't make sense. How do they disable that damn tracker anyways....

Also when I heard Gina Carano was in, I thought it'd be for more than 1 episode. Which means we probably only get 1 ep of Bill Burr...

Somewhat ironically, when I saw that Jon Favreau was helming this project my excitement was diminished a bit because I knew he was going to infuse well-worn tropes up the yazoo. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that; it's just that I had to temper my hopes for something wilder because Favreau is very skilled at perfecting normalcy and creating easy-to-digest stories without significant creative spark. (All IMO, of course.)

And I don't disagree with your analysis, even! Yet I've grown comfortable in this shell and I'm seeing what I believe to be savvier (if kind of average) scripts and smarter directing as the show goes on. This is definitely shaping up to be "familiar holiday sock Stargate television show" as opposed to bold and spicy but it's doing better and better at the former as it goes on, I think.
