It'll get some awards from individual publications but not that many or the big awards. This is a weird year, it doesn't feel like there are any super obvious mass-GOTY winners. I think Snake may be right and RE2 may walk away with the most awards at the end of the day.

You're wrong about character action - Bayonetta 2 won a ton of awards. I just don't think Astral Chain and DMC5 quite matched it in reception, though I can see some for them for sure. Three Houses is definitely one to watch though, that will pick up some mainstream awards and might be the GameFAQs favourite (due to people being pissed at Pokmon), though don't forget KH3 here.

DMC5 and Astral Chain won't get much. Sekiro and especially Resident Evil 2 will get more. Death Stranding will get... something, but not a whole heck of a lot. Fire Emblem: Three Houses might actually win Best Roleplaying Game at the TGAs, which will be neat to behold.

What's wild is that everything I just mentioned is Japanese. Kinda feels like -- in part -- we're living in the 1990s and 2000s again.

2014 was also a horribly weak year for mainstream GotY purposes - Dragon Age: Inquisition wasn't all that well-received, yet it dominated GotY voting anyways, thanks to being the only truly big and remotely well-liked game of its type released that year.

I'm happy to forget KH3 here, considering its awful 4.01 average GameFAQs userscore, which lines up with my anecdotal experience that people pretty much completely forgot about it immediately after its release. Plus, all signs seem to point to GameFAQs not even caring about the series in general anymore.

If this was five years ago and Three Houses, plus Sw/Sh assuming it doesn't get sunk by the Dexit fallout, were Wii U games, I'd say KH3 could maybe have a chance based on sheer playrate advantage. Even then, however, I'd sooner expect it to get crushed by RE2make (an actually well-received game) than beat it in any console polls, and I'm loath to trust Resident Evil against a major Nintendo game here. I'd even take Death Stranding over KH3 on GameFAQs right now.

I expect RE2 to win a bunch. Really the best remake of all time, coupled with an already great game, is going to take it far.

RE2 and Sekiro seem to have had the best mix of critical and fan reception. I feel that if RE2 could have been a big favorite had it released now instead of January.

- Devil May Cry 5: 4.01
- Luigi's Mansion 3: 3.91
- Borderlands 3: 3.72 (though idk if anyone considers this a real GotY contender)

I can't think of a single recent game with a similar average score to KH3 GameFAQs remotely cares about. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a Rockstar game, an automatic disadvantage here, and hasn't met with great reception even by those standards, yet it holds a 4.25.

What you're missing is that GameFAQs doesn't care about any of those games you just mentioned. Three of those four were trashed by RE2make in the halfway poll, and the last one's score lines up with the practically nothing I've heard about it since its release.

Considering what happened with Konami banning Kojima from attending the Game Awards a few years ago, Death Stranding is a 100% lock to win GOTY there.

I'd count out Kingdom Hearts 3 because it came out in January, which was almost a year ago now, and Kingdom Hearts is far too much of a love-it-or-hate-it series to gain major mainstream recognition, not to mention it's too Japanese and anime. Devil May Cry 5's chances are hurt for the same reason, (specifically the anime thing) though not nearly to the same extent. The likes of Death Stranding and Resident Evil 2 may also be Japanese made, but they could pass as Western games, so they'll be fine.

Fire Emblem is a strategy RPG, and at least in terms of presence and fanbase, much heavier on the RPG side of late. It's absolutely within GameFAQs's wheelhouse, and since our voterbase is smarter and more cynical than ever and won't tolerate Sw/Sh's lack of effort after Game Freak's promises otherwise, it should be considered the clear favorite for our GotY at this point.

Also "not non-PC strategy games", really? GameFAQs has long stopped caring about PC strategy games, whereas the likes of Disgaea and Valkyria Chronicles have actual fanbases, due to being on consoles GameFAQs actually plays.

Consider the following: RE2 has to fight it out with DMCV (SFF). Sekiro has to fight it out with Star Wars Jedi (and Code Vein).
Death Stranding is all that remains. Maybe but I think it's polarizing so it will fall short
As for Nintendo, yea I don't see them making a dent here

If I had to guess,
Outer Worlds >>> RE2 > Death Stranding > DMCV > Sekiro > Apex or Star Wars

Resident Evil 2 Remake will probably be GOTY at most publications.

Game Awards wise, I imagine the Nominees will be:

Devil May Cry 5
Disco Elysium
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Smash is there because December games are counted the following year.

That's silly, because remake or not, it's still a fully new game. I've seen nothing but praise for it everywhere. It's also the highest-rated game of the year.
