I skipped out on SMUSUM, but I'm hoping to get into it. :D The only thing I don't like is that you need an app to get the event Pokemon at Gamestop and stuff. I already saw, yea only 400 Pokemon (7 more than games that came out 10+ years ago), but there are a lot of formes and some of the endgame content (the raids) seem pretty interesting.
