There is NO excuse for the company responsible for one of literal biggest IPs to have a game on HD capable hardware looking and running like this unless you are totally inept and incompetent at game development which surprise surprise Game Freak just happen to be

They have been hinting at this being underwhelming for over 2 years now. That they don't know how to expand to consoles or that they don't have the expertise in 3D and how absolutely difficult this project has been. In between that, they posted job openings to get devs used to Vita/Wii U development. They even said not to expect much.

I just knew it was gonna be weak as fuck back in 2017. They're just an extremely cheap company. They could have busted out something way better in the 3 years this has been in development, but don't really have a reason to.

I'm excited for a lot of the new Pokemon species and I will play it eventually, but I decided I'm waiting a few weeks and then buying it used. It'll be the first time i didn't get a Pokemon game at launch since, well, ever lol. I even got Red on its original launch date.

TPC should get Genius Sonority to make a new Pokemon game. They're still around right? They're the studio that did Pokemon Coliseum.

Genius Sonority isn't that great, either.

They haven't made any console games since Battle Revolution, and basically just worked on Battle Trozei and Shuffle since. Shuffle saw some success, especially the mobile version, but it looks like updates on that have since stopped. And they have also gone on record stating a while back that they no longer have the budget for HD console games.

The removal of Pokemon is just the straw that broke the camel's back tbh.

Hell, you cut it down to just the 150 new Pokemon that were in this game and give them all unique, detailed animations with a world that looks like BotW? People are going to care a lot, lot less about not being able to play with a Dragonite or Klefki or whatever.

I personally would be far, far more forgiving of Dexit if Sw/Sh was a noteworthy step up in terms of innovation / game quality. Based on what I've heard (and please correct me if I'm wrong), it's just your usual Pokemon game in a bigger worldspace.

Yep, I feel the same.

If the game is just basically the handheld game but on TV, then there's no reason for them to cut so many Pokemon.

Supposedly the story is on par with the 3DS games, if not shorter, and has even less postgame content than ORAS.

That's a shame. TPC wasted their talent. I thought Coliseum and XD were solid.

What a shitty situation. Gamefreak repeatedly shows that they're like a C-Tier dev studio who (no pun intended) can't evolve. They're the original creators and own a third of the franchise, and aren't gonna stop making Pokemon games anytime soon, but it's really clear that they shouldn't be trusted with the series anymore.

Yeah this is the core issue itself. Pokemon fans (myself included) have learned to settle for lukewarm games and limited innovation because at the end of the day it had all the Pokemon in it. No matter what gimmicks they added or how needlessly handholdy and boring the story was, it had all the Pokemon in it. Now with Sword and Shield it is the same mediocre game, with the same (literally) mediocre animations and the same cycle of cutting the (mostly) well-liked gimmicks from the previous games while introducing new gimmicks no one asked for, but this time it doesn't have all the Pokemon in it. And on top of that, it costs 50% more. So what are we paying for? Why are we settling yet again if it doesn't have that one redeeming factor that kept us coming back again and again and again.

This is literally the same company that nearly cut Pokemon out of G/S until Iwata took their fucking garbage and basically remade the whole thing himself in less than 2 months and not only didn't cut Pokemon but didn't even cut the entire first fucking game.
