Off to Arx, it seems. My ship crashed on a mountain or something.

The last chapter pulled one of my least-favorite tropes in "bad guy suddenly appears and takes all the powers for himself, then teleports away". So lame, and after all that work to get Alexander onto my side. Wound up not even doing the arena. =|

I got walloped a lot early on, but by Act 3, I generally could just steamroll most fights. Granted, the MVP is usually the Torturer trait, which lets you inflict status effects through enemy shields/armor. Fane would pop Worm Tremor and inflict Entangled on groups of enemies, so you could just spew AoE damage. Throw in Teleport and Nether Swap and you've got a stew goin' on.

Wow, just tried getting into Arx and there were 234342 vampiric voidwoken to fight. Arrived just in time for them to cut through every paladin holding the bridgehead, lol. Managed to beat it, but not without half my crew dying. This crap where "neutral turns" spew more enemies into the fight is awful. In fact, most enemies now seem like damage sponges, which ruins a lot of the fun you could have in the lategame.

Also would've hoped that they'd relax the source point requirements so you're not constantly hording these techniques, but naw. =|

Lohse and Ifan died as undead minions on Nameless Isle. I assume the two party members you don't roll with always do?

Haven't fought the Doctor yet, but I've been ambushed by difficult enemies all over Kemm's gardens, so he might be around there somewhere. Also have access to the vault, but there's a door I haven't been able to get through.

Yeah, I tried exploring the burning consulate and got ambushed immediately. Noped the hell out of there.

Nowadays, I'm mostly doing teleporter hijinx + Worm Tremor (3-turn entangle) with a team of Torturers, but before I was doing Rain + Contaminate + junk barricades to make giant fields of poison. That stopped working as well as the game rolled on, however.

yea, with the death fog thing, I used the Red Prince (since I gave him the most strength) to pocket a few of them, and I'd place them strategically around areas I planned to fight, and then I'd have the team leave the area while I used Fane to set off the barrels

made a few encounters super easy.

Haven't had any big fights yet -- other than Justinia's helper throwing me in a pit of necrofire -- but deathfog wouldn't have worked there anyway. Might try it on those clowns wandering in Kemm's garden, since they're way more difficult than they should be.

Just found Arhu in Kemm's torture dungeon, so maybe I should try it there. Shame you can't place it beforehand and have the morons spawn into it. The game abhors those situations, haha. I fought that Eternal chick in the sarcophagus two chapters ago and she immediately aggro'd when she learned I'd thrown oil everywhere.

EDIT: I should try deathfogging the kraken later. That might be a good strategy, haha.

Managed to toss some Black Ringers into the deathfog, but then Linder Kemm comes over and has free immunity? The hell? I mean, it's not uncommon for bosses to be immune to things, but nothing in his overview suggests this. In fact, he heals from it, which makes me wonder if deathfog is considered a type of poison or something (he has 200% poison immunity).

If I had more people with Teleport/Nether Swap/Worm Tremor for a stunlock of sorts, this would probably be more doable. As it is, my two fighters (Fane/Beast) could stick with it for awhile, but Arhu keeps dying, so...reset time.

Whew, finally beat that battle. Probably the hardest in terms of sheer health/armor/m.armor to saw through, but the dude actually had very little in the way of projectiles, so Worm Tremor (taught to three people!) ended up pinning him down the whole fight. His "Walk It Off" trait wasn't enough to overcome the status effects and down he went. Of course, teaching three people Teleport to throw the Black Ringers into the deathfog helped out immensely.

I found it pretty funny that Kemm could be terrified with that demon spell I picked up from that Driftwood teacher dude. You could get it on three people, I think, and I taught it to everyone, haha.

I should remember that in case I need a backup plan that deathfog and Worm Tremor + Torturer can't fix. I'd probably need a ton of 'em, but Kemm's vault should be good for most of 'em. I already killed all his sentries there, too, so I can throw away these stupid rings. Kemm's wife wasn't as shaken as I'd have thought hearing her husband kidnapped Arhu, kept him in a torture dungeon, was communicating with the Black Ring, and had a God-King shrine in the vault. A true Iron Lady.

I think the torture chamber where niles is has enough candles for a whole playthrough, just stealth up, lay down the candles so it blocks entrances/exits and blast away lmao

Obviously doesn't work if the enemies are ranged and on high ground or they can teleport.

Yeah, but 90% of the enemies in this game can teleport, nether swap, shade shift, or void slide. Still, now that I taught my fastest character (Sebille), Worm Tremor and Teleport, that should overcome some of the weaknesses. I'm in the final stretch anyway, so I don't care about lost XP or anything. Just beating the game before Shenmue 3 comes out will be a victory.

Haven't played today, but I suppose I'll go find that toymaker dude at Arhu's behest, then maybe drop in on Dr. Daeva.

Pretty sure I can ace this Kraken fight, given enough time. Once you take out its immobile tentacles on one side of the map, the others can't get you, and if you're high enough, the boss won't even attack. I need long-range AoE spells to chip away, but that's doable.

Not sure this was how you're supposed to do this weird fight (nearly inaccessible area near Lady Vengeance wreck), but my bone widow lured everyone into view of projectiles and I just worked from there. Jumped down, teleported Loic into range, then pinned him down for a nice beating. Could've done it cleaner if I bothered, but eh well.

That old pyromancer had a bunch of deathfog barrels sitting around, so I threw one in that outpost where the dudes are soul-bonded to animals. This seemed kinda hard when I first went over, but after analyzing these guys a bit, it probably wouldn't have been that hard, even with the deathfog. That stag beetle cast Resurrection (!?) on a teammate, though, which was surprising. I'm going to assume that's another enemy-only nugget that's out of reach. =(

Just solved that little girl's demonic possession. Once her truename is spoken, the demon and his droogs jump out for a smack down, so I moved deathfog over. But, then I saw you can nether-swap her up the hill and keep the lackeys out of the fight entirely, so it was a 5-on-1 beatdown situation, haha. Good times.

Welp, killed Isbeil and solved the "kill Arx with deathfog" crisis. A good way to cheese it is sending in one person to meet Justinia initially, then have them get transported by Isbeil to the testing chamber. You can send in the other three after, picking locks all the while, to meet up and just teleport the captive ally to safety. I managed to get everyone to bunch up for Worm Tremor time, then just chipped away with DOS all-stars like Epidemic of Fire and Meteor Storm. Just gotta watch out that you don't break one of the nearby deathfog crates.

It's weird that the whole plan was to gas Arx, and that the doomsday machine was 100% ready to go, but it wasn't used yet. I just came in, did my business, pumped it all out to sea (Beast was all "better some fishies die than people," lol) and that was the end. Hundreds of hours of research and transport, undone by ten seconds of mashing through a menu. Sad!

The secret to being op, is to play with two characters both using the lone wolf perk and both of them being summoner. You miss out on some story elements by only having the two characters, but you get the max level super demon summons before leaving the tutorial island, and have so many goddamn totems. Have one of them go melee/summoner and the other magic summoner.

You will completely steamroll the entire game.

I could probably respec and do a two-on-7 situation or something, but that seems kinda lame. I've heard of builds where people can one-shot the boss and his minions with some of the top-tier magic skills, but I don't think many of my characters are in that position. With Isbeil, Kemm and the kraken dead, this is basically the last quest to do before I look for Lucian's tomb...it'd be kinda lame to just ignore it.

I've been picking off some of the nurses in this building by taking advantage of their patrol routes. They'll always want to go to a certain place, so if you go to great pains to impede said route, they'll walk into areas they normally wouldn't. You can abuse this by making them walk closer to the building's door, then teleport them outside for a gank session. Every little bit helps, I suppose.

I'm also flooding the building in an attempt to make permanent acid/poison around to eat through the doctor's armor and stuff. I doubt it'll help too much, but if you're nearby while they're being affected, and offer nowhere to hide, the battle might start without some of the annoyances. I think the doctor can be poisoned, so that can help with health regen, too.

Still haven't figured out what to do with some of the powerful attacks I'll need to take out the multitude of enemies, though. I found a scroll for the most powerful geomancer ability, so maybe I can buy a few more around town for added oomph. Might also throw in Black Shroud (3-turn smoke + suffocating effect) for Worm Tremor shenanigans. Might help with the boss' stupid amount of self-buffing.

I think you can get the one from the very first tutorial dungeon. There is that room that has some in it that you can just walk right in with Fane

Hmm, I don't remember the tutorial dungeon that much. There was definitely other times when I could skip through the deathfog like it was a field of gillyflowers, though.

Anyway, I managed to cheese the Doctor fight thanks to Rain + Contaminate. I boxed in that entire room with treasure chests, then boxed in the doctor's position again with huge, high-HP crates. Once I was far away, I contaminated the zone and just let the inevitable poisoning go through 11000+ magic armor and 7000+ health. The minions don't spawn, so you lose out on that XP, but it was still fun, haha. I didn't expect Rain+Contaminate to work much after seeing how the Black Ring crew were shrugging it off in Act 2.

The Lone Wolf (?) perk gives you a ton of bonuses if your party has 1-2 characters tops. I have four characters, though, so I chose the method avec fromage. Dunno much about Ifn, since he and Lohse were the characters that died in my game. I think he used daggers or something.

Turtlebread posted...

I've found Torturer to be really useful. It lets your magic inflict certain status effects through armor/magic armor. The perk that lets you resist death once per battle (Comeback Kid?) has been useful, too, although less so in the later game, when you can have tons of Resurrection Scrolls.

Welp, kicked ass in this battle thanks to Worm Tremor in triplicate, which pinned down Vredeman, Dallis and Lucian. I don't think Vredeman even got to attack. They were immune to deathfog, but I managed to throw the gheist and two lackeys into it, so that helped. (Stupidly, if you teleport d'fog down there before initiating combat, your team runs down and can possibly kill themselves like idiots. I'm talking to you, Sibelle...)

Next phase of the battle is Vredeman, a.k.a. Braccus Rex, doing some insane magic -- that doesn't hurt me one whit -- to summon the kraken and a bunch of minions into the battle. I reset last time this happened because I wanted both Lucian AND Dallis to die beforehand, but maybe that's not possible. Maybe I can kill everyone with some megaspell and avoid that second part entirely. Braccus is the summoner, so killing him probably despawns the rest...hopefully.

Luckily, the second half of the fight begins with the first enemies still entangled.
Time to abuse Pyroclastic Eruption and Skin Graft.

Wow, this final battle is trash.

Braccus Rex summons a kraken, who then summons three minions (all who act before me), then the kraken, after one of my ally's turns, teleports and shoots two death beams. I've noticed some variance, but this is going to take a lot of effort, since I barely prepared before hand (respec-wise).

Currently managed to bunch all the enemies up and pin 'em down with Worm Tremor. All that's left is whittling away at their health while I save after each round we survive the kraken. Lots and lots of resurrection goin' on, haha.
