What is Game of the Month Club?
Game of the Month is a community project open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a select few games every month. The games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck)

The Basics
- Each month will usually feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each game you beat, you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's games is usually around a week before the end of the month
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules
- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for every chosen game that you beat
- Each game you nominate has to be unique from all other nominations and cannot include a game that has already been selected for GotM
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a chosen game after the drawing for next month's games but before the end of the month

I already started Edith Finch last night. Interesting looking game so far. I can tell already how much I like this is pretty much going to be entirely tied to the story. I got curious and checked how long this was after starting and saw an average playthrough lasts like two hours so I'll probably finish it this weekend.

I should probably do spoilers for actual content stuff, yeah? Just got to the first "book" thing which opened up into a window and then I entered someone else's memories? I stopped right then so I don't quite know what is going on just yet.

Finished the first "floor" of memories. I meant to only play for like ten minutes but kept going "eh one room more" so that's probably a good sign.

I was caught off guard when I turned into a cat. Can't say I was expecting that! I do really like the little vignettes for each of the family members and how different each one feels. The do a great job capturing different voices so it does feel like you're peering into the lives of a bunch of different people. The comic effect was great and I'm hooked on the story. There is also something very unsettling about intentionally doing things that you know will lead to the death of a kid just in the name of pushing the story forward. There isn't anything here yet in terms of actual gameplay and you can't even really explore like you can in some similar games like this but overall I'm definitely enjoying it so far.

Suprak has finished What Remains of Edith Finch

Interesting game. Im not entirely sure how much I liked it. There were a lot of really interesting narrative elements to it and several scenes that were hard to watch. The story was good but not so good I would absolutely recommend it to other people.

Everyone here should play it though because it is like two hours long.

I think thats likely it for me this month. I looked into it some more and Rock of Ages doesnt look good enough to warrant a purchase. Maaaaaaybe Last of Us but that feels like a long shot.

Been revisiting The Last of Us the last two days and have made it to Bill's town. Got the Platinum for this game when it came out and thought it was one of my favorites. So far it's still holding up, and I'm glad to be replaying it before Part 2 comes out.

I'll also be playing Edith Finch this month. Bought it a while back and never got around to it.

Rock of Ages, 15/23 stages done. I'm still enjoying the game but lord I'm just dominating the AI so far. The best trap setup for the AI is just be irratic cause your not gonna block them. Goal is just slow em down and cause them to fall off the edge a lot

Edith Finch beated

Ive had it for a while from PS+ so I started it up on a whim and it seemed like the type of game I should play in one sitting. Id say I did like it overall. Really neat experience.

Yeah it was pretty depressing as I had heard. Sams death really caught me off guard. And Gregorys death was pretty dark, I had a feeling it was going to have me turn on the tap at some point.

Edith Finch stuff

There was something grotesque about how happy and whimsical the scene was for what was the literal drowning of a baby. That scene and the one with the cannery at the end were far and away the strongest of the game. I loved the aesthetic of the comic book scene as well.

Overall, the game just didn't quite click for me. I do think I liked it, but I feel like I should've liked it more and it wasn't quite as good as I had heard it was. Some amazing scenes, but I felt like the message got a little muddled overall and I can't say I was a fan of the ending.

I am definitely not a walking simulator person, and while this checks off many of the boxes that I dislike, such as low sense of accomplishment, pretentious script, and often ugly visuals (the very first story is especially brutal in that regard), but I ultimately liked it more than most that I have played (though still behind the developer's previous work in The Unfinished Swan).

They constantly changed things up in terms of art style and interactivity, and the more succinct chapters were standouts to me, such as Sam's, the boy flying the kite, and the boy on the swing.

I will probably start up a New Game+ of The Last of Us later today. I don't know if I will stick with it. I wasn't exactly enamored with the campaign the first time around (online on the other hand was amazing). I am curious how different the experience will be if I skip all the cutscenes and focus on the gameplay/task at hand.

I'm up to Lakeside Resort in TLoU. I know that the better chapters are ready behind me, but I am committed to seeing this through to the end...again. I kind of forgot how much better scoped weapons were in this game, but too bad they don't see much use unless you essentially eschew stealth altogether.
