You have a scythe that also functions as a sniper rifle, so you're competent at any range but probably a hair better in melee. Your main asset is your speed.

Ruby is very fast and a trained fighter/killer. She can quickly change back and forth between range and melee with her weapon and can use the rifle fire to propel herself around the battle field.

Speed and mobility are definitely her strentghs.

In the show her Grey Eyes can do an AoE or focused petrification of monsters. I seem to remember that is our NP so it probably is some kind of short term petrification or debuff.

2) Straight to the NP

Archer has the terrain advantage, but you have a master with a ton of Command Seals. "This is the end!" cries Archer. She shoots an arrow....right through your chest.

That hurt like heck, but it's just an arrow. Between your Dust and reinforcement from Kirk, you'll live, but that's not a great way to start off the fight. Another shot grazes your arm before you can recover, and another narrowly misses. Enough of freakin' this.

Power flows through you, and your eyes glow. Archer doesn't appear to be petrified- you didn't really expect that part to work, but the good news is that you should be able to shrug off your wounds from before. Maybe she has some sort of ties to preservation. Y'know, you don't really care. You had some feelings for her, true, but she's been fighting dirty this whole time, and has done nothing to curtail her Master's descent into darkness. No more Ms. Nice Huntress. You close the distance with a single burst of your Semblance, and bring your scythe down right on her head.

You got her good, but Erika is able to save her Servant the same way Kirk did for you. That's definitely going to slow her down, though, and she doesn't strike you as being a great melee fighter. However, she is able to almost magically slip away, dashing backwards over the snow. Back to ranged fighting, but you're at least able to tag her with a shot.

Archer pulls herself together, and fires a single arrow to the heavens

A giant bolt of energy thunders down from the sky, with only your lightning reflexes avoiding disaster. The residual heat singes your leg a bit, but you essentially just dodged your opponent's trump card.

You zip in to deliver a killing strike....but she fires off her NP a second time! You swerve at the last second, dodging the strike a second time but failing to make contact. She tries to kick at you, but she's clearly exhausted from firing off her NP twice, and the blow has no power. A few more slices from your scythe....and it's over.

(somewhat old RWBY spoilers)

In another world, Yang Xiao Long lay on her bed. The fight with Adam felt like a bad dream. She couldn't believe that she would never have......her arm? She snapped to full consciousness, and stared. Her arm.....was there! Like it had never happened. WAS it all a dream? Was this a dream now? Her sister walked into the room, and smiled broadly at her.

And with that little epilogue, I think we are officially done here! Like I said earlier, I intend to run this again sometime, although there will be some time before I'm ready and there's a good stretch of my schedule in which to do it. I welcome feedback for next time! How's my writing? How's my....gamemastering, I guess? The format? Anything you'd wanna do differently (or the same) next time around? I think I wanna overhaul the combat system a bit. I don't have concrete ideas yet, but I think it needs a bit more depth than it innately has, and it gets way too swingy. Too many one-hit kills in this run. >_>

The other thing is I guess it wouldn't hurt to link my google sheet. This is what I was using behind the scenes, so it's not specifically formatted to make sense to outsiders, but maybe y'all will at least enjoy looking at the "timeline" and all the character sheet things.

The one thread that y'all never really heard much about or got involved with was the Prospit City shenanigans. Basically:
-Rider summoned False Caster through his Mentorship skill- that and his Mad Enhancement turned her Spark into martial arts prowess instead of mad science.
-Violet of Rider developed a weird yandere thing for Erika of Archer, and captured her.
-Archer eventually rescued Erika by setting up that stampede of boars with help from the locals and a slight assist from Lancer, and then Erika had Archer kill Violet in cold blood.

The quick deaths were confusing? Any ideas on what I could do better on the writing side?

My plan for next time is twofold:

-Stat out basic and skill attacks for everybody. This time around, I did stats for NPs but ran everything else off the basic parameters (STR/END/AGI/MAG). I think I can do a bit more nuance there, and it will likely make basic attacks less effective than flashier ones.
-Use Command Spells as extra "saving throws" against death, and maybe make them very strong but affected more by damage than normal checks. I kinda halfway did that anyway on the very last fight of this game. Will also make it more important to stick with your Servant since I was kinda lax on that this game.

The cliff's notes of how the combat system works is that there's an AGI v. AGI check for initiative, then a check to see if the attack hits (most commonly AGI/AGI this time, but that's one of the things I'm going to go into more detail on), then a check to see if it does damage. (this time it was STR/MAG v. END but next time each attack will have a different rating) If somebody takes damage, they receive penalties on future checks, in theory leading to a cool system where you slow down until you can't make an END check. But all you need to kill somebody is a crit on that third check, and it's not unthinkable to hit that even on a fully healed opponent. That's what happened to Salter, for example. So statting out attacks should make "basic bonk with a sword" less likely to do that, and using CS as a saving throw should be a good way to stop that from happening at the beginning of a fight. Maybe.

....The simpler plan, I realize now that I've typed all that, would be to make "basic attacks" non-lethal, but I am not sure I can reconcile swords and magic bolts and guns and stuff like that as stunning damage >_>
