Do they make these kind of super simplistic isometric 'get money between rounds to upgrade stuff' racers any more? It seems that they were never really that common, as by the PS1/N64 era they had been completely replaced by modern-style 'kart racers,' like DKR, Mario Kart, Crash Team Racing, etc. DKR was supposedly originally intended to be RC Pro-Am 64 but Nintendo forced them to turn it into more of a character based kart racer.

Anyway, off the top of my head these are the kind of games I mean. let me know if I'm missing any

RC Pro-Am (NES)
RC Pro-Am II (NES)
Super RC Pro-Am (GB)
Championship Pro-Am (GEN)
Rock N Roll Racing (SNES/GEN)
Biker Mice From Mars (SNES)
Mickey's Adventure Racing (GBC -- this is actually really similar to DKR, but with the open world parts not taking place in a vehicle, more of an RPG style walk and talk)

I know I've come across games along these lines just from searching "racing" in various stores, but I don't recall any names off the top of my head.

I see a ton of them on the Switch EShop. Most of them look very low quality though.

Cobra Triangle got a more shmup-like upgrade system
Galaxy 5000... I think you can buy new ships but not upgrade them
Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road, or simply Super Off Road
Eliminator Boat Duel switches between 3 camera angles

aren't those all top-down and not isometric, also?

I mean that part isn't as big of a deal as the upgrading part, but in my mind they seem like distinct subgenres of racing

@Foppe thanks bro, I'll check those out

Mad Max on nes is not exactly what you are looking for, but it got a car in an isometric view
And RPM Racing is basically Rock N Roll Racing without the rock n roll and space

You should check out BlazeRush. No upgrading between rounds but you unlock different vehicles and weapons as you open up new tracks. It's on PS3, not sure about other systems.
