Prime Clown: Leaning towards a 5. I can't honestly say I enjoyed it and I was closing to giving it a 4, but it's such an...odd concept that I can't bring myself to give it lower than a 5. Evil Seinfeld theme isn't something I actually want, but I think the world is a better place with something so bizarre actually existing and I'm thankful for a chance to experience it. Like, that has to be worth at least a 5, actual enjoyment value be damned, right?

Never Really Over (Instrumental): 4. It's alright, I suppose.

Taxidermy (Killer 7): 6. It's unsettling, but could stand to be more unsettling. More than anything else, it makes me want to go back and listen to Dark Tube & Bleached Coral again. I don't know what places those two had at the ranking topic, but I'm sure they were too low.

The Night of the Age: 6.5. Seems like a good band and I could use a few more symphonic metal songs... if I listened to enough of their albums, I'm sure I'd find a song I loved eventually. This isn't it, but it is high enough quality that I'll try hitting a few other songs by them at random.... after VGM nominations are over. I've got, like, so many songs to listen to over there and we're just in the opening moments of Day 1 here.

Goldust (80s Remix): Well, I do like Goldust and I like 80s synth, so this is a pretty good choice. 6.5 as well, we'll say.

Sorry, I would have tried to watch that if I were awake at the time, but I was asleep at the time.

Roman Tam - Below the Lion Rock: There's a surprising amount of information about this song available--it even has its own English Wikipedia article. The "unofficial anthem of Hong Kong", huh? I kinda feel bad trying to critique something that culturally significant, to be quite honest.

It's a nice song. There's obviously a lot of value in its messages of togetherness and letting go of conflicts. I'd personally prefer to listen to something angrier at the moment, but... well that's not what this song is and considering everything it has come to represent, I'll try not to judge it based on what it isn't.

7; it's nice and it offers a lot of interesting angles for research--a chance to learn more about Hong Kong's history, about geography to learn about the mountain the song is named after, about the TV show the song was created for. Much to think about.

notmetro Chocolate Box: 6. I think I preferred the last cover of Chocolate Box you linked, but I'm not sure I feel strongly enough about it to actually give a different score to either of them.

mumenkyo hakujitsu: 7.

More tomorrow, most likely.

Home Sweet Home: 6 for both the cover and the original. I can't find anything new to say about either of them; cute, but not overwhelmingly so; good, but not overwhelmingly great. You know how it is.

Kuishinbo Hacker Cover (the more recent one): 7. It's probably just me, but I think this is a big improvement from the last cover of this song.

Happy Synthesizer Cover: 6.8.

Kaf Video: 8. Somehow I doubt you want a score here, but as I'm reasonably certain I've mentioned, I typically like songs with spoken words. Don't really care to try diving into my psyche and figure out where that comes from, for the sake of this write-up it only needs to be established as a thing (the why is irrelevant).

So... yes. If I like Kaf and I like Kaf spoken word stuff, then yes Kaf Spoken Word Song is very much my type of thing, yes.

You would think that many "yes"s would translate to a score higher than 8, but apparently it doesn't, at least at this exact moment.

Stranged in the Jungle: 6.

Sorry about the delay. I did listen to it shortly after it was posted, but I wanted to listen to a few of the covers--The Cadets for being more popular then the original, some 90s cover that tried to modernize it, and Frank Zappa's cover because Zappa--but didn't have time and...sorta forgot to come back to it...sorry.

( Zappa >> Jayhawks > Cadets > 90s band I don't remember the name of; there's something about the increased speed Zappa puts into the chorus I find appealing. It's still obviously doo-wop, but...speed doo-wop or something and it puts it two pegs above the others.)

Zappa Cover, Live Version:

Either way, song is unique and I appreciated the chance to listen to it.

hololive makaigumi - crazy night: 3. Decided to start here since if the link vanished once, it would be troublesome for both of us if it vanished again. The first ten seconds are quite nice--like the dark ambiance and the whispered lyrics--but once the song starts, it feels a bit too...fast and high-pitched to enjoy.

...79 more songs to go by my count.

isekai jouchou - alice: 6.5. It's interesting and feels like it's doing a lot of things I like, but even so, it feels "less than seven". And possibly a bit too dark for the lyrics.

yuiga kohaku/kirahoshi uta - platonic girl: 2. I suppose it's fine and I should give it another point or two, but no thank you to the lyrics.

azami - last scene: 6. I like those...odd parts, you know, where there's a second vocal track I can't make out or whatever.

vivi - renai circulation: I've probably heard the original version of this a hundred times. I feel like I was just talking about it, wasn't I? About how this board seemed obsessed with it some number of years ago (or at least it was a mainstay at any song discussing anime songs) and wound up on some mp3 player I had as a result, so I basically know it by heart even though it had been a few years since I listened to it before we ("we" being I and whoever on this board I was talking to) had this conversation?

Acoustic covers aren't usually my type of thing and I do prefer the original, but it's an interesting take on the song... let's go with a low 7 on this one.

More progress later.

yozora mel - discommunication alien: Somewhere between 6 and 7.

ryushen - i love: 8.Something. I probably shouldn't like it as much as I do (blah blah, fairly typical love song lyrics, blah blah), but I actually like it quite a bit.

hizuki miu - peace sign: 5.8. Don't know much about My Hero Academia, but the song is...slightly above average for random anime songs, I suppose?

yotsutsuji mayoi - little night lullaby: As you probably expected, I really like the backing music but I'm not as into the vocals... still, it's relaxing enough. 7? Yeah, let's go with 7.

And yes, of course, I was excited to see Cat again. I doubt that needed to be stated.

project aid noa - ghost rule: 6. It's honestly about the same as last month's cover.

azki - shining star: I don't know why I'm bouncing off this song so hard, but I really want to give it like...a 2.9. Excessively cruel and not based on any conscious logic I can tell, but I really don't want to give it even a 3.

enma ruri - i beg you: I kinda find this one rather boring, sadly. 4.6.

akesato - nanatsu yozora no negaigoto: Pleasant. 7.

And that's as far as I can go in one sitting.

Raidas - : I really dig the backing music and I'm also into the general atmosphere of the song, it's lonely without being miserable or depressing. I'd say...8?

tsukitou runa - torinoko city: 9.6. It's close to a 10, but I don't like the ending of the song.

Even just throwing away a spoiled fruit
I can't do it alone; I need you by my side

Cut off those last two lines and it's an easy 10.

Sorry to leave it there, but it's late and I'm needed at other topics. Also, as I've said, I usually like taking a break after giving a very high score anyway.

oh yeah oops it's tsukitou runo i did the name wrong both times i posted her. it will become apparent i made many mistakes around this part since i rushed. next one's obviously kurayama yanmi. anyway i strongly considered posting that one alongside the other stuff in the middle of last month and the only reason i didn't was because i was worried about the audio quality

also jumping the gun a lot but i figured i'd keep the feed of virtual cat songs alive

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkLukY5UuJs virtual cat - spring jams

some different notes on the songs thus far. yeah, i don't feel strongly about the early ruri cover either. i was mainly lenient towards it because somebody cared enough to actually translate it, so i figured i might've been being hard on it
i still prefer the kanata cover of ghost rule by a lot. main reason i included it was because there were two covers of ghost rule in my subscriptions from the last few weeks and it was noticeably better than the other one
i nearly didn't even listen to or include i love. it wasn't until i listened to it that i was like "oh wait, this is a lot like their cover of pretender" and put it on the list straight away

i was also very generous when it came to including original songs, and i was surprised how many there were there. even both of the akesato ones are for instance. this is also why all the azki songs made it on

kurayami yanmi - jellyfish: 7-ish?

Main Song: Cute enough, 7.

Instrumental Section (before outro): 4.

Outro: Very dreamy and nice. That section is at least a 9, but it's only...like...30 seconds or so?

So yeah, probably works out to a 7.

kmnz - galaxy: 4. Not a fan.

water music 83 betta: 5.6.

shino - kokoro yohou: 4.9.

rime - enchanted: 5.1. It's rather...slow and sleep-inducing for much of the song (and no, I don't like the original version any more than this one)... I'd say it's slightly above average, but not likely to ever be a favorite or anything.

And that's as much time as I have tonight.

shirane yuki/kurone yomi - oni kyokan: 5.3. I like the lyrics (I've mentioned liking blasphemous lyrics, or at least being interested in them, and singing of a war against Heaven & Earth fits the bill well enough), but I'm not actually fond of the song itself...

kanade kanon - last dance wa motomenaide: Well, I can't read "last dance" without Tom Petty's Mary Jane's Last dance getting stuck in my head, so I have to go listen to that first.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aowSGxim_O8

Creepy music video. Hadn't seen the video in a long, long time but still remembered the end quite vividly...

I always feel like I should listen to an actual Tom Petty album someday. I've listened to the Greatest Hits album often enough, but never ventured to any of his lesser known songs.

Aaanywho, now to listen to the actual song.

5. Good video, have no real reaction to the song.

tokino sora - sayonara no kawari ni, hanataba o: 5.

azami - anonymous fanfare: 4.4

And then some wires got crossed and I wound up on a song you didn't post at all. Not sure how; I opened Bafuco song in an incognito tab, but when the song started I got some cover of Osaka Dreamin' Night:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TO40I8ACaw0

2. I very strongly did not like this song... but I suppose I wasn't supposed to listen to it in the first place and don't really know what happened. Must have been in the Related Videos and just randomly gotten clicked while the actual song was loading or something.

bafuco - nouryoku-chi dai joshou: Somewhere between 4.8 & 5.1. It's a narrow range, somewhere between slightly below average and slightly above average, but not actually average. Baf, baf, baf.

I seem to be on a string of negativity right now, so I'm going to break early and come back tomorrow.

akesato - shunsetsu no yoru ni kimi o matsu: 5.1. It's fine, but I find her voice a bit too high-pitched in places.

amakawa hano - chocobox: 5, though it may be slightly negatively impacted by being the third version of the song.

kazumi - ito: 6.8

...okay, maybe I do like acoustic guitar songs. Whatever.

yuni - ame to cappuccino: Hey, YuNi! (or was it yUnI? ...No, that really =doesn't look right. And that equals sign was originally a typo, but now the sentence doesn't look right without it.) Nice to see her again, not many artists can say they were even briefly considered for first place at the ranking. (Granted she fell pretty hard, but not too many songs were considered for that spot.)

7; this is nice.

project aid io - kawaki wo ameku: 6.

isekai jouchou - yakusoku: No comment.

water music 84 hokkokuakaebi: 7. The intro is great. Main part of the song is good, but perhaps a bit too long for what it is.

cecilia - .: I have no idea. I strongly dislike the opening and mildly dislike the lyrics, but the song itself is better than it has any right to be. Official score is Kwyjibo/10.

That's not to say that the song is a balding North American ape or even similar to one, but simply that Bart Simpson got the definition of Kwyjibo wrong--likely because this song had not been created at the time.

Copying lists of VTuber Cameos from siliconera's articles about the game.

So many cameos... I'm worried that the sheer number might make it difficult to work out all the licensing issues to get the game localized and there's just so many that I doubt any of them will have time to do anything besides say 'hi', but still! Hibiki cameo!
it's kinda sad ileheart, the literal neptunia vtuber, doesn't even get to appear

viankie - uchiage hanabi short ver: 7.5. I'm not positive if you posted another version of this song or not... the lyrics seem very familiar, but I could be confusing it with any number of songs that involved fireworks. It's quite nice either way.

microphone soul spinners hakujitsu rap arrange cover: 6. It's got a nice flow to it, but I think I preferred the more traditional version of the song.

azki - kurogane no mamoribito: *before listening* There was a time I was excited to see her, but I think that's passed. Let's just hope she manages to at least get a 3 this time.

*afterwards* Torn between 5.8 & 6. It's good, but not very inspiring.

Okay, more tomorrow for real: Yesterday, I was pretty late and just didn't have time. Today, I made sure to have the time, but forgot to charge the phone to...ya know...have a device to listen to things on. -.-'

[Before you question how I'm posting this, I've got 15% battery left. Enough to do some things before it dies, but not enough to get a good listening session going.]

Had some extra time this morning, so a few quick ratings:

anon shito - kk bossa: 7.

nicole kotone - little sweet cafe: 5.5 ; it's short and rather forgettable, but also oddly charming to a point that I did like it. Kinda.

kaf - amai: 6.8.

aer - paprika: 5.2.

hitona kohigashi - Kono sekai o aishitai: 8. It's still good, but I think I preferred the other versions?

yeah i thought it was noticeably worse then them myself... but still above average for the song pool so i still included it

also kinda sad i got no particular response to the animal crossing cover

also also regarding uchiage hanabi... i'm not even sure myself. i know i've listened to other covers myself, but the only one i can name is this one i apparently didn't share
https://youtu.be/pKJjMQxc6-c

either way it is an insanely popular song from a mega artist with 346 million views on youtube (and is also a theme song for a Shaft film of roughly the same name) so it's also understandable if you've heard it before (i haven't actually watched it myself though)

Well, I didn't have anything to say about the song itself and rambling seemed less productive than just moving on to another song, but if you insist...

A: The last time I listened to music voluntarily, I went through a bunch of K.K. Slider covers of pop songs (none of them compared to Drive, which I'm like 99% sure I linked earlier in the topic). So it was kinda funny that as soon as I got back to work, the first song was the opposite--a K.K. Slider song covered by a human.

B.Ehh...you do get that taking something furry (a song by a dog) and making it not furry is rather the opposite direction I'd like things to be going, yes? </.<

C.I'm not a fan of Animal Crossing. I typically don't like sandbox games without plots or goals, so it's pretty far from anything I'd like to play. And building an entire universe of furries but forcing the player to be human is mean.

C-2: As such, I don't have much experience with any songs from the games. So, if you were hoping that I'd recognize the song in any way, I really don't.

D: In spite of all that, it still got a good score. It's nice enough? Fairly cute, fairly funny, it's a good novelty song.

But I'm rather as burned out on generic write-ups like point D as you are of reading them, and it's not like the other points were particularly new either (blah blah, furry; blah blah, this is not furry; blah blah, I dislike popular thing), so I just skipped this write-up entirely.

kmnz liz - kuishinbo hacker: 7.2; a slight improvement over the last cover of this song that I heard.

akahoshi aruto/enma ruri - shinde shimau to wa nasakenai: 5.1. A Dragon Quest parody is a cute idea for a song and the video had some nice points, but the song itself is just okay.

meteor - kiseki: Somewhere between 2 and 4.5. I have a strong dislike over the part starting at 1:44 (like "debated giving the song less than a 1" dislike), but the rest of the song is fine enough... kinda comes down to how negative I feel like being at the time.

vivi - amazing grace: Alright, look--I'll grant that she has a good voice. I'll also grant you that this is the best version of this song I've ever heard. And, I'll confess that some very religious songs do manage to do quite well with me--but a Christian hymn like this is almost guaranteed to hit last place, so unless you're trying to get a 0, I'd suggest avoiding this type of song in the future.

virtual cat - tokyo emotion: *before listening* ...So following a song I was guaranteed to hate with a song I'm pretty much guaranteed to like, in hopes I'lll like it even more by comparison? Not a bad strategy.

*after* 7; it's a nice environmental track, but not my favorite cat song.

nabana nana - believe : 3. I don't have much opinion on One Piece (it was one of those series that was going to go on forever and I decided quite early on that I wasn't even going to bother trying to get into it). Song is...well, I think the 3 speaks for itself, really.

tamaki sacon - fire flower: 4. Not bad, but not very remarkable either.

hibiki bison/nicole kotone - saving all my love for you: I was not prepared for an instrumental cover of a Whitney Houston song, nor for it to be the best song in this post. Let's say...somewhere between 8 and 9? Were I to ever make a playlist of relaxing songs, this would fit in perfectly... but it's a bit too short... but I want more songs like it... so, a little undecided on how high I want to score it exactly.

And a high score like that, combined with how late it is, makes this a good break point.

project aid noa - rokuchounen to ichiya monogatari: 7. I like it, it's faster and more energetic than most songs in this topic, but I still don't really love it.

ryushen - itsurai: 4.5. After the unexpectedly high scoring Love song, we're back to the significantly lower scoring Ryushen songs.

...Going to skip ahead to the other Ryushen song you nominated because I feel like it.

ryushen - kabukichou no ojou: ...Well that was different than their other songs, but not my thing. 4.6-ish?

starbear - wakusei loop: 4.8.

shiraitama - telecaster b-boy: 3.

tamaki sacon - koibito shikkaku: 7. Good voice, song feels like an above average anime ending song. Makes me want to go listen to all the Inuyasha ending themes again. Is it "Inuyasha" or "InuYasha"? I've seen it written both ways.

nami - telecaster b-boy: 4.9; it's a large improvement over the last version of the song, but I don't think I'll ever be a fan of this track, no matter who is performing it.

shishigami leona - hanasaka step: 8. Incidentally, I now like the previous cover less because it's inferior to this one.

mochizuki himari - venom: 4; I suppose I did ask for depressing lyrics like these, but they're not quite working for me. Possibly the song is too energetic to be properly sad, possibly I just don't like this singer as much as some others, or perhaps the lyrics are the wrong kind of downer lyrics. Perhaps all of the above.

sakura miko - sakurakaze: ...I had a friend who used to go by Miko. The song is probably fine, but I wasn't quite prepared for the memories that name would bring back. I may try to come back to it a few days from now.

water music 85 nekogigi: 5.6? It's nice enough.

That feels like a good enough place for a break.

regarding the next set of songs, i'm personally going to recommend saving the starbear cover till after otome kaigou (the one after it)... mostly because i expect the scores to be pretty lopsided and maybe skewed otherwise

i didn't exactly sort the list in an order that was ideal for listening to in order. it was actually just by when they were first posted >_>. incidentally, i didn't even listen to tokyo emotion in my listening session, i just happened to find out it was posted straight after the amazing grace cover i'd have never included if it wasn't a very convenient song to showcase vivi specifically. i also don't think it's a much of a standout cat song either, it was just an auto-inclusion

regarding the one piece cover, i also didn't care much for the cover, i mainly decided to include it because i realised i hadn't posted a single ukelele cover from nabana nana until now, despite that being her main gimmick

i also haven't played animal crossing, joke kk slider songs just happened to be a thing i got into in the past thanks to brawl and it wasn't really a thing i'd seen anyone try to do, so i thought that was kind of charming. anon has been a bit of a fad of the month vtuber for me, since this she also did one of the funnier april fools videos and has also been doing interesting (read: ironically, not excessive amounts of animal crossing) streams lately so i've been checking her out a lot more. i'd de facto classified her as one of the least interesting members of her vtuber group until now, and a much worse singer than some, but with the more cute shitposty things she's done lately my opinion's kind of changed

yeah even i'm very on the fence about ryushen songs and i also feel they're extremely inconsistent for whatever reason. only reason i included itsurai was because i realised it was apparently an original song so it was more "important" and stuff, i didn't even like it at all

lastly, sorry that i pressured you on the writeups, i understand where you're coming from and can't blame you with how much i've forced on you here (even if i also forced it and another like hundred worse songs on myself in doing so)

I'll make a note of that--probably just listen to Otome Kaigou first tomorrow, unless you have a strong opposition to that.

And I wasn't seriously accusing you of trying to arrange things to make Cat sound better (I could have sworn that I added shifted eyes after that statement)--though it would have been a valid strategy, if it had been intentional and the scores meant anything.

I didn't catch on that things were posted by upload date... I don't think I really spent anytime thinking about why the order seemed somewhat arbitrary.

oh yeah one other thing

disagree on the leona hanasaka step cover but i'm glad it wasn't a waste for me to include it

i'd deliberately included it largely to serve as a reminder of mitsuki neu's cover more than anything, but i guess while it worked, it definitely also backfired oops. incidentally, neu/wotoha's Jelly Girl album finally came out on BOOTH the other day and it's quite good (even if you're forced to take these words with a grain of salt now). i still recommend checking it out if you can find it

Nothing to apologize for and I regret some of my wording choices--more frustrated that I'm still not any better at expressing thoughts after all this time, leading to a lot of redundant write-ups. I should probably try to learn something (either a bit about music so I can pretend to understand it or some writing so that I can...ya know...write), but...well maybe next topic.

nanase taku - otome kaigou: 6.5

You ever see "Nightwalker: The Midnight Detective"? Fairly obscure anime from the late 90s, based on a Visual Novel that I know nothing about.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSNgJTx1Q7U

(Not one of my favorite animated openings, but it's actually quite a bit better than I remembered it being. There's also a full length version you can find with a minimal amount of effort, but I can't decide if I like it more than the short version; over five minutes feels too long for this song, but it does some mildly interesting instrumental things in places that the intro version doesn't have time for. Let's just say they're both 7s and move on with our lives.)

I wouldn't say I was a fan of it or even remember it clearly--something about a Good Vampire Detective and the main antagonist was an Evil Bisexual Vampire named Cain and they could make weapons from their blood (I seem to recall whips of blood quite specifically)? I always kinda liked the main character's design--sure it's pretty standard 'tortured anime demon prettyboy' archetype, but that type of thing was still new to me back then.

Anyway, something about this song or the singer's design is bringing back some pretty serious flashbacks of that anime even though I haven't seen it in forever. And while the singer isn't a vampire or even pretending to be one, and the song has nothing to do with it, making me think of vampires is worth an above-average score.

viankie - marunouchi sadistic: 5.4. I recognize the song title from earlier in the topic, but nothing about the song or lyrics feel familiar in the least... it's alright, but obviously I've liked other songs by her more than this one.

takanashi neiro - time travel: 3. It's not bad, but... no.

nemukawa yumena - lemon: 4.

project aid noa - uranus: At least an 8. It's good, but I want to give it more time and listens before I commit to anything higher than that.

starbear - fanza: Dunno. Song fits their voices perfectly and it's catchy (as I mentioned at the last cover of this song), but then I still don't like the lyrics/subject matter... it's one of those songs that's never going to get a consistent ranking. I could see myself giving it a 9 one day and a 4 on a different day. Doubt it ever goes higher/lower than those two extremes. I suppose I'll just call it a 7 at this exact moment in time, with a note that you should not expect it to be a 7 at any other point in time.

And for some reason, it feels natural to follow that song with the one I skipped last night.

sakura miko - sakurakaze: 5.1-ish. It's in the "this is fine and feels like a typical anime song" category, after getting past any random flashbacks from the artist's name.

mameko - healthy & tasty: 6. Standard 'cute, but we've had cuter' write-up.

yeah that all went about as i expected

i expected the starbear fanza to be very noticeably lower than the project aid song and i was worried it'd be so much worse that it'd also negatively affect whatever score the otome kaigou cover got after it (which is surprisingly one of the best ones i've heard, and it's a very common song to see covered). uranus is just really good. i didn't expect project aid to come back to the level they were at with those initial hated by life itself covers, let alone with an original song. i'm not always big on that kind of song but it really suits them.

also can't say i have seen nightwalker. I might check it out

Ugghhh, long night tonight...

murasaki shion - hakujitsu: 4. I accidentally clicked this link instead of Charles and got very, very confused for a while... taken me a half-hour just to get everything sorted out. Either way, I prefer the earlier version of this song.

kazumi - charles: 3. I was going to say I just didn't like him, but apparently I liked his earlier song... so alright, I don't like his voice on this type of song then.

enma ruri - ashita e no tegami: 6.2. It's nice, but for an emotional song, i don't connect with it as much as I'd like.

hoshino meguri - wakusei loop: 6. I don't know why, but I seem to kinda like this tonight.

kaf - denwa o suru yo: 5.8. Dunno, it's got a nice beat and it is Kaf, but it feels slightly lacking.

beretta x'rain - departures -anata ni okuru ai no uta: 5.3. I think I might like her voice. Wouldn't be opposed to hearing something else of hers later.

ginga alice - dance in the galaxy dance video: I don't know. It's kinda cute, kinda funny, kinda weird, kinda nostalgic (I have a complicated relationship with Space Channel 5, though I know nothing about the VR one that the video's title leads me to believe this is about), and kinda annoying. Just roll 2d10 for percentile die or something and assume that's an accurate enough score.

*rolls*

8.9? That seems absurdly high. YOU HAVE BETRAYED ME, DICE!

...eh whatever, scores are meaningless and I have no idea what to give it, so let's let the 8.9 stand.

Ehh.... I could push on and try to finish everything in that post, but I think I'll stop here for the night.

vtuber miku - yume tourou: 3. Usually I like Hatsune Miku more than this, but this didn't work for me at all.

Also, kinda disapointed it wasn't Sparkle if we needed a cover of a RADWIMPS song.

vivi - haru no uta: 5.4 ; I still find her music rather soothing, but it's not what I'm looking for right now.

azki - eternity bright: 6. The background was pretty.

koiyume rune - blow off the coronavirus!: 4.

camellia - kk cruisin future bass: 5.5. It's different enough to be above average, but not great.

alice schach and the magic orchestra - teardrop del rey: 5.4. They're very talented and I occasionally love things in fictional languages, but... I dunno.

virtual cat - spring jams: 7. Always good to see Cat.

i only just found out emma hazy retired a little over a month and a half ago. that last one i posted, gekkou, turned out to be her last one

here's some covers from her i missed till now. curiously, that gekkou cover has around 440k views now, but most of her other more recent covers from the final few months have very few even compared to her early videos

hopefully she will not be forgotten. she's gotten about 7k subs since her retirement actually, which is a pretty notable feat when she only had 24k to begin with. she wasn't around and actually relevant for very long, but i feel she really pulled off some magic when she was

Haven't popped in on this topic for a good while, but I've had this EP on repeat for the past couple days so I figured I'd share it since you've tended to enjoy my contributions to your topics.

One of my favorite releases last year but I've gained even more appreciation for it recently. Whole thing's only ~20 minutes but if you're pressed for time, The River and The Downpour are the real prizes.

It's fine, I still welcome everyone & everything in these topics. One EP isn't too much at all--though I don't have Spotify on this current phone (and let my premium subscription lapse after the main ranking topic ended), so I listened to it on Bandcamp... which I hope was fine? It didn't have whatever the last bonus track was, but then I'm not entirely sure if it was on Spotify either... if it was, I'll work on listening to it tomorrow,

Hope: I really like the ambiance of the track (it's perfect for gazing out at the beach on a dark night and being mildly sad about things), with the only flaw being that it's too short... leaning towards an 8?

....eh, who am I kidding, I give ridiculously high marks to short songs all the time. I was this close to trying to nominate a 7 second long Game Over jingle at the VGM rating topic last night:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guHN5Fr-2SQ

Don't care that it's only 7 seconds long, don't care that it's simple, I actually really like that little tune. Decided against entering anything that short though.

Aaanywho, let's just bump Hope up to a 9, because why not?

The River: 6.5. Good band, good singer, not entirely sure why I don't feel like giving a higher score right now. Will probably listen to it again some other day--coming directly after Hope gives it a bit of an advantage.

The Sinking Question: 7. Good lyrics.

The Thing With Feathers: 5.1; when it comes to religious choir type music, this isn't the best or worst example... it's fine? I really don't have much reaction to it.

The Baptism: Complicated. Somewhere between 5 & 7, depending on how twitchy I'm feeling in regards to overly religious music that day.

The Downpour: Ah, another song right in that spot of "sad, but not overwhelmingly so" that I seek.

Again I pray for rain
But a downpour wouldn't numb the pain

Yeah, that's about what I was looking for. Let's go with an 8 here.

Overall Rating: 7-ish. The quiet ambiance of Hope (which doesn't sound hopeful to me at all, but perhaps that's just me or it's an ironic title or something) is one of the best tracks in this topic; Downpour is a good follow-up, as is Sinking Question though I probably liked it more before learning what the EP was actually about (I think the story is more direct in Sinking Question than the other songs, but then I like the song & lyrics enough to...kinda look the other way, a bit.)

And one quick VTuber ranking

haneta chika - dameningen parade (for BOTCHIBOX): 8.5? It's pretty. No idea what the lyrics are, but I suspect this is one of those songs I like more without context.

Forgive the only one ranking. I perhaps should have tried alternating songs from the two of you, but listening to the EP in one sitting made sense and that's just how the night wound up. I should get more in tomorrow.

kazuya okada - sorezore no sekai: 6.6. It seems nice.

Original: 6; like the other version, just...less good.

midy - close to my heart: 6.1? I think I like her voice, but some of the non-lyrical sections are mildly annoying.

memex - heterodoxy: 5.8; good song title, but song itself seems slightly weaker than the previous ones.

>fox dj - VILLAGER: The song starts off fairly strong--automatic bias points for furry-ness and the backing music is vaguely reminding me of something (closest I can think of is Lights, but I don't think that's quite right)... but that stretch starting at 1:01 may actually be the lowest point of this topic, and possibly even the lowest including everything from the main ranking topic. It is significantly below zero and makes me want to offer apologies to all other songs I've insulted in the past.

Then it improves drastically once he resumes singing... only to repeat the terrible portion to close out the song. So... ehh... on the one hand, I should give it some number of points--there were parts of it I liked. I like the intro, I like his design, I have no complaints about his voice or his singing. One cannot give a 0 or a negative score to something with that many positives.

On the other, counting all 300 songs from the ranking topic + the bonus songs ranked in the topic itself + however many songs have been covered in this topic already, this song quite possibly has the absolute lowest points out of all of them.

....Leaning towards "negative five" right now. Which is as unfair as it is a ridiculously invalid rating on any traditional numbering system. AND YET, here we are.

*realizes that we're now living in a timeline where she gave a lower score to a singing fox than to a traditional Christian hymn*

This is now the darkest timeline.

qkiki - level up: 6.8. I like the design of her sword--I know it's not the most original looking design, but it's rather appealing. Large blood-red gem that looks like an eye, big sword, it's very 'ancient probably cursed magical weapon' and I care far too much about the sword.

Less interested in her design. Of course she has to leave large portions of her body completely uncovered by armor and has to go adventuring in high heels.

...also, there was a song.

akumano goat - lunatic mountains: 5. I expected greatness from the opening--it's kinda this fast-paced swing music type thing that I liked, but I wasn't as sold on the vocal performance. Seems like the type of song that would be improved with context--it sounds like it's probably meant to be at least slightly comedic, but without any context, it doesn't quite work.

Also that juggling thing looks like the fusion of Dr. Eggman & a snowman.

haneta chika - kodama no uta: 8. Don't know why I like it, but I do. Actually immediately listened to it a second time to try to find something to say, but still came up empty... though considering how relatively few songs I've chosen to immediately replay, the 8 may be slightly undervaluing it.

yaca (the virtual alligator) - don't care: 4.5.

misoshita - omega force : 9. Probably not much of a surprise, considering the artist, but yes I do still like him and his music.

boromaru - yuusha no kuseni: 6.

azami - cynical night plan: 9. Possibly overrating it as I feel less certain of the score than I did for Omega Force & Hope, but it's what I'm feeling right now.

water music 86 - neoceratodus: 5.

Break time.

...also since using that brief Pac-Land clip, I now get the Pac-Land soundtrack stuck in my head whenever i finish a post in this topic.

neko hacker - jelly girl cover: Somewhere between 5 and 6. Cute enough that I'd never mind listening to it again, not great enough that I'd likely seek it out.

leona shishigami - shukumei: 5.1. It's fine. I like the garbled auto-translated lyrics more than the coherent actually translated ones I found. Compare

You can't cut the battery. as long as your soul is destined

Which is at the perfect intersection between almost philosphical and complete gibberish.

This battery wont die
As long as my souls alive

Which is...fine. It's fine.

Also compare:

Now I am destined to burn him and start rampaging

Which is just completely flipping awesome. It makes no sense in context of the song, but more songs should involve the singer randomly setting people on fire and going on monstrous rampages. Think of your favorite love song: Now imagine that in the next to last verse the singer set the object of their desire on fire and rampaged like Godzilla through Tokyo. Your favorite song is now better. YOU'RE WELCOME.

Right now its about giving our all
To that thing called destiny

...Which is fine, I guess. It's not so awesome that it could redefine music forever like rampaging, but it's fine.

Will try to get more in later tonight; had some extra time this morning.
