Like last year's ranking topic, there were several songs posted in the Ranking Topic that I haven't gotten around to listening to and commenting on yet. And since the other topic is about to hit 500, the only way I'll be able to comment on anything that was posted is with a continuation topic. Like this one.

Whether or not you participated in the main ranking topic, if you have any music suggestions, feel free to post them & I'll make my best attempt to get to them when possible. I kinda have a few different projects going on at the same time, so I can't honestly say I'll get to them in a timely fashion, but I will make the best attempt I can. No telling how long this topic will go on for; it'll just be here until whenever I've fully caught up on the backlog. Speaking of which...

Like somunia and Yaca, Else and Poki, and memex and... whoever memex is with, NoWorld is a singer/songwriter duo. They don't seem to do music together though, which has always struck me as odd.

A major independent I admittedly don't follow nearly as much as I should. The latter, a collab cover with RukiRoki, was what I would've picked, but it was lower priority than the other two RukiRoki songs I listed above. Aaaand then I didn't even include them either. Had the former video been out at the time though, I definitely would've included it.

Another major virtual singer I don't follow nearly as much as I should, in her case because she's a member of Nijisanji, which I don't like. Has a LOT of covers, having posted new ones at least weekly since well over a year ago now, but very few of them are animated fro

Even though they're shorter, I do recommend also checking out the short versionsthey distill the overall idea of the songs well, and the BGAs (also done by frums!) are insanely well done and only serve to further the overall aesthetic

Night one songs:

Songs from UF8:

Merry Halloween: Still not as cute as some of her other songs and not really my thing. Party/Dance music tends to be at an automatic disadvantage with me and this isn't an exception. Probably around a 4 or a 5, so let's just go with 4.5 to start.

Start Signal: Yay, bunny hat girl's back!

If this song has not been played one million times, she will be discontinued radio program.

A million views seems like a completely absurd amount to have hoped for, but not even hitting 60k must have been depressing. Song is fun enough, but I'm not really in the mood for something so...bouncy tonight. 6.

Let's skip ahead to poemcore tokyo's first link. Tonight seems like a good time to go for something DARK.

poemcore tokyo song #1: I have no idea what I just watched. So much of it is just spoken words that I have trouble even parsing it as a song, but I really dig the discordant horror vibe the background music has when it's playing. Would probably leave it as an "Unscored, will try to assign a number to this at a later date"--if forced to give it a number, then 8-ish? I enjoyed it, whatever "it" was.

Songs from cakophon:

Bouncing around, let's go for something familiar after that, with the short version of Credits EX.

Credits: Neat! The video is fun, particularly that it inexplicably has subtitles. I prefer the full version, but even in its abridged form it's worth at least a 9.

And let's end the night with one of the Underveil remixes.

(Quiet Water Remix): Well taking 30 seconds of peace and making it that loud was certainly a unique take on the song. I think I enjoyed it for the most part? Let's say a 7 for first impressions.

Umm...would you prefer I call you by your username or Quinton? I don't want to bother you by acting too familiar, but I also don't want to be the type of person that openly ignores what someone wants to be called...

(On a related note, you can call me whatever; Raetsel seems to be the default as that's sort of my main account? Only two songs & a non-music video tonight, all VTuber related as I continue working my way through that backlog:

Optional video with Asamiya Yuri, Hibiki Ao, Nanase Taku and Fukuyamaster: Well, it is interesting to see the two girls together, but without understanding Japanese I can't make much sense out of it... still like her bunny hat though, so it's always worth clicking her videos just to look at the cute hat for a few minutes.

Midnight Fighting Brief (poemcore tokyo #2): I really like his voice and the vibe his videos give off, but I have the distinct impression that I don't ever want to know what the actual lyrics to this song are. Let's say it'd be somewhere between 8 & 9, probably? Provided I never definitively learn what the lyrics are.

poemcore tokyo #3: Ohh, now this is exactly what I was looking for. The absolute despair from the video itself, watching him running forever in a twisted city of burning embers under a blood red sky, the demonic screaming that is somehow both shouted and whispered, the instrumental portions that are just off enough to feel slightly unsettling while still being nice to listen to (that bit starting around 2:30 is magical in the strangest way)...

Also it makes me feel like an anthropomorphic cat for some unexplained reason, which is a new experience. This song is a pretty easy 10.

And I'm afraid I should leave it at only three songs tonight. Nothing is going to top that song (which I've already gone back and listened to multiple times), so let's give some time before coming back to this. Rest a bit, listen to some non-suggested songs, and what not.

: I like this quite a bit. The backing music feels very 80s--particularly the brief guitar in the intro, which in only a few notes managed to be the most 80s guitar I've ever heard--and I think I like his voice. I'm not as into Sarah's performance, but it might grow on me with more listens. Think I'd probably start this one's score at a 9, with a note that I want to try another one or two songs of his later. [Later Edit: Oh, let's make it a 9.3.]

Options EX: It's quite good, but it's not nearly as chaotic as Credits EX and I don't know that it needed to be over seven minutes long for what it was... though still good and I'm always looking for things in this sort of style. Leaning towards an 8.1? Somewhere between 8.1 and 8.4 at any rate.

Pictured as Perfect and Plus: Well, seeing as I just attacked Options for not going hard enough, it felt like a good time to go for one you said was "more intense". It was and I did love it more as a result! That stretch starting around the four minute mark was marvelous--quiet with static and beeping, that then ramps up in intensity to eventual screaming... very, very nice. It's an easy 10.

Pictured as Perfect (video): It was easy enough to find, but you accidentally linked the Credits BMA a second time instead of this one. Song is still great; it's missing my favorite part, but the addition of the video and creepy hidden messages makes up for it? Or possibly more than makes up for it. I'm not entirely sure which version I'd rank highest, so let's just presume it's a tie.

Options BMA: I like this more than the full length version--this one stops at the point that I wanted it to end at; it just feels more natural stopping the song after that message instead of resuming. Leaning towards...say an 8.7? A few pegs above the extended one, but not such a drastic improvement that it jumps a whole number.

caprice for it: *looks at the adorable pink bunny girl on the cover*

...Obvious pandering is obvious. </.<

I do like it quite a bit, but it feels a bit too obvious. I like Frums, I like chiptunes, I like adorable furry characters, this link is very "here's a bunch of stuff you like" which...well yes, of course I like it, but it's not new or surprising and there's not a lot to say about it as a result. 9.

Also, I didn't entirely forget about the Dirt Poor Robins songs, though I did forget to copy the names over to this topic. I shall listen to them tomorrow.

Dirt Poor Robins

Welcome to Lady Hell: It's well performed in all respects, but I'm not crazy about the lyrics or the story. It's somehow both very close to what I want and very far away at the same time? Hell Prison seems like what I want--despair, potentially supernatural if we're assuming it's literal hell instead of figurative hell (and I don't know enough about the story to be particularly sure, so I'm presently free to interpret it however I wish), yadda yadda yadda, but like The Dark Sentencer this kinda...left out the despair? It's so upbeat that it can't really work on that level; but it's also...ya know...not happy enough to work on that level either? Not sure what I'd want to score it as... probably around a 7 out of respect for the group's talent and for it being in the vacinity of what I wanted.

Furthest Star: I know this isn't one of the four songs I was supposed to listen, but it started immediately after the last one and I was drawn into it by the opening notes. This is one of those songs where as soon as the intro started, I was like 'yeah, we're dropping everything to listen to this right now'. There's a dark edge to the music and his voice that I find irrestible... this would likely get "9.Something" for a score, with the Something to be determined at a later point when I had more data points on nominated songs to better decide exactly where I'd want to place it.

Maximilian Von Spee: ...Huh. Going directly from the last two songs to an incredibly retro song about a WW1 General...brain...melting...

It's good, but I'd prefer something a bit more modern and I'm not really in the mood for a history lesson right now, though there are definitely days I'd be more appreciative of this song serving as a jumping on point to learning something. Probably around a 6 at the moment, with a note that it'd likely rise to an 8 if you caught me in a more academic mood.

Scarecrows: You know how a lot of high ranking songs tended to get generic messages of "[*insert large number here* Nothing to say tonight, I'll try to find something when I have to talk about this a few months from now]"? This would be one of those. 9-ish, good, but I can't find any specific words that I want to put down here tonight.

But Never a Key: I'm surprised by how many of the YouTube comments are people that fail to understand the Algernon reference. Like, even if you never read the story, then surely you have to be aware of it, right? It's been retold and parodied in everything from Spider-Man to Newsradio. Not that I'm in a position to judge anyone, I just kinda thought everyone at least knew the name and gist of the story.

Aaanywho, the song is...depressing, obviously. Which is rather what I asked for, I suppose. I like it, but it's very slow and somber... probably start at an 8, then steadily increase overtime as I have to admit how much I was undervaluing it. It feels inevitable that this would ultimately go up to a 9.5, but we're not at that point yet.

VTuber stuff

I could use something lighter after that marathon, so let's see what's left over in this list o' songs.

Twinkle Night: Full disclosure, I had forgotten who Somunia was and had to go back to the other topic to get context for this. I definitely prefer the nominated track, but this isn't bad and it's kinda nice to hear some new singers with her... probably somewhere between 6 & 7.

Osanai Mei poemcore cover: *before listening* Well this is either going to be a trainwreck that hits last place or an 11/10 best song of the topic. There can be no middleground with this crossover.

*later* Midnight Mei-chan Dream: This is wonderful, but I don't think it would have worked without the context of having heard the original version of the song earlier (so thank you for that). I kinda love it, but I think I prefer the original... so this is probably only an 8. Still, quite nice and exactly what I wanted at the moment.

Virtual Neko: ...I have no idea what that was.

And that feels like a good place to take a break. 8 songs here, 9 songs from the VGM rating topic, I feel content with the progress I made in both topics tonight.

My apologies; I wasn't feeling up to this two days ago and I let myself get distracted at the VGM ranking topic tonight... didn't want to miss the nomination period again and apparently spent a few hours scrolling through songs. Going over songs I already loved, clicking randomly through soundtracks of whatever game name randomly popped into my head, and aimlessly clicking things on assorted playlists in an attempt to find three songs I actually wanted to post.

I hope Mycro doesn't mind my posting one of his Unlisted videos to that topic, but after searching forever for what I wanted to submit, that's the song I fixated on.

Since it's from a public blog, it's probably fine.

Rating resumes tomorrow.

Lee Shion - Aurora: 8, maybe an 8.5. There's a lot to like about the song; it's pretty, it hits about the right amount of sadness ("I'm sinking away into a deep dark emptiness" is rather Duvet-esque in its bluntness), but I don't connect with this quite as much as I did with Ordinary (or Duvet, or Baby Bird). Still a good song that would be assured a decent placement, but not likely to win any contests.

Else - To Your City: 6, maybe 7. I like her voice, the underwater gimmick, the shark, and the video (puppets!) but I'm not fully drawn into the music. Having trouble finding any trace of the lyrics; not a dealbreaker, but they'd probably help a song like this that I'm not fully connecting with based only on the music itself.

Vtubermana: 2 or 3. She's got a nice design, but the song really isn't my type of thing. I don't usually like non-lyric vocalizations and while I can somewhat appreciate how different the song is from every other one you've submitted, it's...just not for me, sorry.

Virtual Butler Cecilia - Disco Necropolis: 1. It's like the last song, only more than twice as long and about half as good.

Cecilia (second link) - Probably a 1 or a 2 too.

Virtual Butler Cecilia - Luna Ascension: Easily the best of the three, but acapella still rarely works for me... leaning towards a 4 here?

Suntory Nomu & YuNi - That's Why I Gave Up on Music: Probably a 5, maybe a 6. It's a great video and a good story, but I don't feel any connection with Nomu at all--and having listened to the original version, I at least feel something from Yorushika, so I feel comfortable saying I just don't like Nomu. The original is a 6, maybe a 6.Something...this one feels like a step below it, but I could see myself giving it the same score anyway.

Suntory Nomu Second Link - 3; it was fine, but inspired no feeling or any interest in typing anything, nor did it leave any lasting impression. It played for a minute and was quickly forgotten.

Fuji Aoi - Get Wild: Leaning towards something like 4.8; it's close to an average score of 5, but I don't really feel like giving it the full 5 points. It's fine, but...I dunno. Chorus repeats a bit too often?

Milky Queen - ECHO: 7 or 8; it's good and I enjoy hearing another version of this song, but I'm still partial to Ruri's version (which I think I'm going to retroactively increase to 9 points, after going back and listening to it again I like Ruri's ECHO even more than I thought I did) her voice feels more artificial and I have an easier time connecting with her version of the song. Of course, Ruri's has the advantage of being the version I heard first, so it's possible Milky Queen's is just under a natural disadvantage...

RukiRoki - Lucky: 6; they're adorable, but the song is a bit too happy for me right now.

RukiRoki Second Song: 6; they're still adorable and the song is still too happy.

And I need a break here... will try to get a few more songs in before I go to sleep tonight, if possible.

Yeah. That cover of it only came to mind only for the video, honestly, and i didn't want to just showcase the short minute long preview of the other one. I forgot how weak it was as an actual cover, especially by YuNi's standards. I can't recall what the best one I consider is, but that one's honestly one of the worst of that song, reflecting on it now. EDIT: I just searched, there were at least 23 other vtuber covers, and... All of them were better.

Celeste - Confronting Myself: 9. As soon as I saw the Celeste thumbnail, I thought "Wow, I hope this is either Confronting Myself or something similar to it". And it was! This song hits a lot of the right notes for me; it's got that computerized and artificial type sound I like, there's static in places, some vocal distortions (yes, I know I don't usually like vocalizations that aren't lyrics; my love of static & distortions like skipping audio trump any negative feelings about the repeated hey-ya vocals), very much my thing.

I feel it's been popping up in a lot of VGM related contests lately though. I'm not burned out on the song yet, obviously as I was happy to see it again, but it's definitely not new.

Phyrnna - dU5k M3Igb VkgN Wsxbg: I don't know. My reaction to this is so all over the place that I feel like awarding it a non-numerical score of some type. Something starting with an "Sp" sound...Spartchy? Splotchy? Splorky? Something like that.

The intro sounds slightly glitchy--not glitchy enough for my tastes, but a good attempt--but then it kinda goes to that thumping sorta dance music style that I rarely like, then it becomes retro-gaming at 2:18, then back to dance-y, then back to an outro that is more like what I wanted to hear when the song started.

...Yes, splotchy. This is a very splotchy song. I'm not entirely sure what that translates to.

Let's see...I think I'll save the remaining Virtual Idols for another day (I enjoy them, but 12 in one sitting--14 if we're counting my revisiting Ruri's ECHO and the original version of that one song--is enough for one day). I also marathoned a bunch of game music yesterday (and plan on going back to the rating topic after I post this), so I think I'll hold off on instrumental tracks... that puts Yasuhisa Watanabe & FRUMS on hold.

I suppose random Sleeping With Sirens songs are next then?

*checks the top songs on Spotify*

"Better Off Dead", huh? Probably another suicide track, but it might be the right level of sadness.

Sleeping With Sirens - Better Off Dead: 7; yeah, suicide is a bit too far on the sadness scale. Catchy song though, will likely get stuck in my head and it's close to what I wanted.

Sleeping With Sirens - If I'm James Dean, You're Audrey Hepburn: 6.5 to 7. Metal love song...good, but I don't feel it does enough to really distinguish itself from other love songs and it kinda pales in comparison to "You Kill Me (In a Good Way)".

Ehh...don't really feel like an acoustic ballad, so let's skip the song named after Roger Rabbit (also, you don't want to promise me cartoon bunnies in a title and then not have anything to do with them in the song, so let's just not even waste our time clicking on it. Or at least save for it a different day, if nothing else).

Well, might as well go for the #1 ranked song on Spotify.

Sleeping With Sirens - Leave It All Behind: 7-ish? It feels a lot like a slightly worse version You Kill Me; like "I'll be your hope when you are hopeless, together we are not alone" is just a more basic version of "I'll hold you close and show you you're not broken".

Of course I like it; I mean, it's a band I apparently like delivering the messages I like in the musical style that I like, but it feels like it's covering a lot of the same ground.

...eh, fine, we'll go with the not-actually-rabbit-related song. We have to get it out of the way eventually, right?

Sleeping With Sirens - Scene 2: Roger Rabbit: Somewhere between 8 and 9. This is actually really close to greatness.

So listen close to the sound of your soul
Take back a life we lived once before

That line is pushing some buttons of mine that nothing else in either topic has... (well, actually, I suppose "Past Lives" kinda did). I have a bit of a thing about reclaiming who you once were and what not... though this is more about rekindling love than actually being about that, the line is just close enough...

...fine, take the full 9.

Okay, now to go catch up at the VGM topic.

Ultimate Weapon Girl (Trance Bootleg) - 5. I love the original version of the song, but I don't know if I like trance music... can't say I've heard much of it (that I know of), but this is taking a very cute song and making it more dance like; song I love converted to a style I don't care much for kinda evens out to average values.

(the song that just came out) - 6? It's nice, but it doesn't inspire a reaction beyond "above average anime type song".

And now, let's go over to...Kaf's songs for a bit. I've been rather dreading this part, as I'm going to inevitably compare to the song that won and there's not much hope of anything standing at that level. Still, there's always a chance of finding something?

Kaf - Ito: Unscored. I don't know right now... it's a bit too angry in general, but that last verse could hit me pretty hard if I was in the right mood... I'll try to come back to this after listening to the others.

...YouTube wants to play Devour the Past next and I like that title, so I'm going to bounce to it first.

Kaf - Devour the Past: 8.4, though I think we're all better off if I don't explain right now.

Kaf - First, Second, and Sixteenth Video: It is a bit nice to see the buildup to Baby Bird, but after listening to the whole song so many times, going back to 11 second teasers...doesn't have quite the same impact it would have if I'd been around from the beginning.

Kaf - Shinzo to karakuri: 8 and I'm getting the feeling I shouldn't be marathoning these types of songs in rapid succession like this...

Kaf - The Witch: 5; not entirely sure why, but I didn't feel much of anything from this song.

Kaf - Just forget about it: 7. I wish the song ended with the black screen at 2:47. That bit was, by far, the most impactful moment of the song--probably of any of the Kaf videos I've watched tonight to be honest.

"You wouldn't understand "love" yourself. Afterall, you're the one who killed it for us." *silence*

I really don't think the song needed to continue after that. Just leave it on the black screen for a while, give time for the weight of that line to properly crush the listener. Still...good song either way, I suppose.

Kaf - Yoru Ga Furiyamu Maeni: Dunno. Somewhere in the 8 to 9 range, probably.

Kaf - Hated by Life Itself (Prayer ver.): Probably in that same 8 to 9 range.

I should say more on some of these songs (and go back to that first one, but I'll do that another night), but my head's all fuzzy now and I'm gonna...go listen to Dancing Mad for 17 minutes at the other topic, apparently.

Will finish the FRUMS songs tomorrow for a change of pace.

Frums - Turnstile Jumper: 4.3-ish. I can definitely hear what they were going for, but what they were going for is less interesting to me than their more chaotic offerings.

Frums - XNOR XNOR XNOR: 7. The issue with long songs divided into multiple distinct parts is that I'll inevitably like certain parts more than others, which messes with the whole scoring system.

Favorite part is probably a 30 second stretch starting at the six minute mark. It's all buzzy and staticy and beepy; then some other instruments come in and it loses much of its effect on me, for whatever reason, but those 30 seconds were almost perfect.

Frums - UMBRA, RADIOLOGOS.: 6.8 ; it's good, naturally, but doesn't feel quite...unsettling enough for Gaster.

Best part comes in around 3:21. It feels like falling into an ocean of darkness... love the atmosphere it creates, but it doesn't stick with that vibe for very long.

Frums - ultra-blazures: Somewhere between 6 and 7. Good, but no specific moments really jumped out to me. It was like "yes, I am listening to another Frums song alright, that is a thing I am doing tonight". Which is more enjoyable than how I spend most nights, but didn't inspire much of a write-up or reaction.

Let's see where I left off on the VTuber Snubs section of the topic...

Hoshimiya Gumi - : Probably around an 8. Cute song, cute voice.

Hoshimiya Gumi - : 2. I know, I know: "But you love cute characters and cats, you are obligated to like this!!"...but...it's just so slow and sleepy. Like a lullaby, only not as cute as an actual lullaby. It's like an overflow error--you know when you raise a value above its max and it resets to 0? This song is like that; cute voice, cute song, cute concept, cute musical style, and at some point it exceeds 255 and reverts to a negative value of cuteness.

Sophia Code and Lyra Editor's last song: 7; nice song in all aspects. I have no complaints about the singers, the music, or the lyrics. Just not one of my absolute favorites, so it probably falls at a "notably above average" level like a 7.

Did a lot of VGM at the other topic last night, so back over to this one for a bit.

YuNi - Color of a Clear Voice: 6. There are some lyrics I like and she still has a decent voice, but something about the backing music isn't working for me at all tonight. Not sure what.

YuNi - Winter Berry: 5.6. Well I don't particularly like winter (I love rain and dislike the cold, so a season where it is too cold to have rain is kinda antithetical to my existence), or overly happy songs, so a bouncy song about happiness and winter is...not likely to get a higher score than this one did. It's fine, I don't dislike it or anything, but...yeah.

YuNi - Utaoyo, Utaoyo: 6. Not bad, would probably grow on me with a few more listens.

YuNi & Hibiki - Karakuri Pierrot: 6, though I found myself wanting YuNi to go away because I prefer Bunny Hat Girl. </.<

YuNi - Destination: 5.3-ish. It's fine, no particular reaction to any aspect of the song or lyrics.

Fukuyamaster - Winter Berry: 5.61. I don't normally like adding an extra digit to ratings, but I needed a way to accurately convey "I like him more than YuNi" while also conveying "but not to a point that it has much of an effect on the score, this song isn't really going anywhere no matter who performs it" and that little number was the fastest way of saying it....though I still explained it anyway...

Fukuyamaster - Sugar Song and Bitter Step: 5.5. I still like his voice, but didn't get much out of the song on a first listen.

It's never cold enough to have no rain where i am lol (it's also rarely that hot either)

Also, I'm impressed you've actually whittled down my link spam down to just... I think 16 songs? All before the original topic even gets removed.

Speaking of...

Regarding Kaf, I cannot iterate enough how worthwhile that stream of her "One Man Live" concert was. If you have several hours to spare, I absolutely recommend checking it out.

Also the anniversary stream i mentioned turned out to be a disappointment, with nothing of note regarding her coming out of it besides some fashion line (seriously). That said, there was one notable reveal.

Just two songs tonight; got a very late start working on things and new episodes of She-Ra are out, so I'm probably going to watch at least the first episode tonight. More songs tomorrow.

Takanashi Metro: Very cute voice, but the song isn't one of my favorites. I'll go with a 6 for now. Feel kinda bad that the song only has 15 views... like, I know it's a new release, but oof.

Mituki Neu: Too happy for me at the moment, but I'll go with a 6 here too.

I know it's a false sense of accomplishment, but since a post only had those two songs in it, I can say "I ranked every song in a post" and pretend that was more significant than it actually was.

Roman Tam - Ji Guang Zhong: 6. I like the video, the disco with the flashing neon lights and the smoke machine is apparently my type of thing (which is odd as I'm rather neutral to disco music in general, but apparently I like the colors and general atmosphere?) and the visor he occasionally wears reminds me of Cyclops--which is ridiculous, but reminding me of the X-Men certainly doesn't hurt anything.

Song seems like the type of thing that would get stuck in my head frequently if I listened to it a few more times.

duvet cyberia reMIX: 5.Something (leaning towards .4 at the moment). It runs into the same problem that Kaf's songs hit--you don't want to wind up being directly compared against one of my favorite songs. Since the regular duvet has gotten a lot of play from me since the ranking started and was in consideration for first place, there's not a lot that can hope to compete against it. Most of this remix feels like they just took a song I loved and slapped a beat I don't really care for on top of it; there's a brief instrumental portion between verses that works quite well & the whispered bit was unexpected (and very welcome), but most of the song just leaves me wishing I was listening to the original.

I don't usually mess with playback speed, but I think I like this one a bit better at 1.5x speed. The beat feels...not Sonic-like exactly, but like the type of beat one might expect from a high-speed platformer and it sets it even further apart from the original.

That newest song UF8 posted: 7? It's cute, whatever it is. Always nice to see Bunny Hat Girl again (yes, I know her actual name), though I'm more curious about Alice... she's got a cute voice and I don't think I've seen her in any of the videos you posted thus far? Or if I did, she didn't leave much of an impression at the time.

*clicks around her channel randomly*

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Az22NOebfRk

How bad is it that I kinda liked this one? I know it's simple and devolves into high-pitched shrieking by the end, but it's cute & funny so I don't think I could give it less than a 7.

And that's it for tonight. Sorry; last night I marathoned a bunch of songs at the rating topic and I didn't have much time to spend on either topic today. Will try to find time to make more progress on this tomorrow, hopefully.

YuNi - Dadadada Tenshi: 5-ish. As usual it's fine, but a lot of these songs are starting to run together in my mind and nothing in it really stood out.

AZKi - Shinzo to karakuri: Not sure if I like her performance here any more or less than Kaf's, so let's just give it an 8 too.

AZKi - Ito: 4. Don't know why, but I don't think her voice compares favorably against Kaf on this track. Not sure when I'd listen to this when I could go with the original, which hurts the score even if it's probably worth more than a 4 objectively.

AZKi - Asagao no Uta: 7-ish. It's pretty.

NoA - Hated By Life Itself: 8. Good voice, though I think I prefer the version you nominated at the actual topic over this one.

Emma Hazy - Hated By Life Itself: 7. It's an interesting take on the song. Really like the backing piano and appreciate that the slowed-down take on the song helps it stand apart from the other linked covers.

Night Tempo - If You Love Me: Probably a 7. The intro is...odd in a good way, the sax is nice (how many times have I said these topics need more saxaphones?), and the outro is much the same as the intro (which is good). I'd prefer a fully instrumental version, but I wouldn't say I disliked the singing.

The water sounds are A+ of course, but I feel we've covered my thing with certain beaches well enough.

Beyond - : 7.1-ish. Good song in all respects--the lyrics are sad without being overwhelming, he's got a good voice, nice band, I'd say everything about is notably above average.

...Which may not be the most thrilling write-up, but I've written worse.

Takanashi Metro - : 6. She is cute, but the song doesn't grip me as much as some of the other cute songs did.

Takanashi Metro - : 4. It's really short (27 seconds long) and somehow manages to feel repetitive even at such a short length. Voice is cute enough that I could never hate it and it ends before the Iyaiyaiya can get too annoying, but I'm not a fan of it.

Takanashi Metro - Third Song: (not sure that star would show up if I copy/pasted the title and don't feel like testing it tonight). 5.5-ish; again, it's cute, but only about 1/4th as cute as something like the PHYZ song.

NoWorld: I really think you needed to link the other related video?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tI9Cozw1vaI

Or maybe not. After the ending to the one you linked, I was expecting more of a connection between the tracks... and while I vastly prefer the inverted colors of the second link, I did prefer the song in the first link? Piano song gets a 7.5, other song gets...some amount less.

Yeah, i deliberately excluded the other one. As well as any of Ayame's covers. The song I linked is far more in line with the other songs NoiR does anyway. Incidentally, if you're interested in that kind of stuff, which you may be if you gave it a 7.5, there are night music streams that run from around midnight to 7am-ish japan time every night with playlists of other songs they've done. And since I'm down to 4 now, time to acknowledge the last ones i forgot to

Suisei
https://youtu.be/dPTeBvVJ_xY
The other failing idol in hololive. She was in a semi-independent group before joining. Which is to say, yes, she did not start as part of it officially or unofficially. Since she made the jump, she... has done virtually nothing music-wise besides karaoke streams, but that's fine because she's also godly at tetris and other things. Or rather had done, since there's this now. She's been starting to get some traction lately. Might even pass AZKi by next year.

Megururi
https://youtu.be/RP576lz4muI
Hoshi no Meguri is the other main surviving member of the group Ruri used to be part of. They're really good friends and formed this unit recently, starting with this cover of a song from official REALITY-based group KMNZ who are also pretty good. The original song is very heavy on editing so i don't consider it nearly as good though.

Ruri-Yuri
https://youtu.be/n93W0P_D8PM
Contrary to the name, this is very hetero. I was very surprised when I saw this group also form a week later. Not just because it came fresh off the debut of Megururi or even because she'd never interacted with any guys prior besides Fukuyamaster, but because I'd actually seen this guy with 10 subs before. He doesn't have an animated model so I had no idea he was even a vtuber, but Mashiro-sensei aka Yuri is a great singer and person in general.

Kano, Hareru and Hitona of Hanayori
https://youtu.be/NWG_lwQgTK8
https://youtu.be/eBBOeYGqTvo
https://youtu.be/fLxzBuoPXbM
The Hanayori Jyoshiryou are a relatively new group that debuted right when noms for this started. They've managed to avoid being totally shut out of the scene mainly thanks to having Kano, noted utaite and anisong singer in general who goes by the same name outside this group. They're especially successful in China on Bilibili, where Kano just used her existing account with 400k followers. In the 3 months since debuting as a vtuber, that's over 600k now, and the rest are all within the top hundred vtubers on there too. Hareru's top 20. Anyway... Kano song I picked is of course another Hated By Life Itself cover. Hareru cover is some song that is half in Chinese to appeal to the bilibili crowd. No, the cat ears aren't normally there. All three of them have covered the song Hitona sang and I recommend checking those out if you like hers. Their face tracking is extremely wonky by comparison though. There's a fourth one, Nonono, but she hasn't done anything solo besides the extremely corny debut song all of them had variations of. I don't recommend that, I'm sure you'd give them a 2 or 3 at best.

Hinokuma Ran is the other best member of Animare. You may have noticed she was the one controlling the cameras in Ichika's 3D stream i linked a while back. Hardly a singer like Ichika but just as fun as her and also cuter? That said, IRL she is extremely unfit and nearly died after like 5 minutes of Ring Fit Adventure, the big fad game that was all over the scene until today with pokemon's release.

Vivienne Kensington, or Vivi for short, is a singer/guitarist who covers all sorts of songs. I didn't know about her till a month or two ago when somebody else linked her on a server I'm on, and I still haven't listened to much from her but generally like what I've heard.

Coincidentally also a singer/guitarist, this Manjuu bear is one I found myself roughly 8 months ago, and you can kind of tell she's been around since then since she uses VRChat. A dying breed. She's a songwriter herself, and her songs are largely in this vein, occasionally with sillier lyrics though. She's nowhere near as active as I wish she was but has released several albums, including one with all the songs she's made since adopting this bear persona.

This story isn't likely to be of interest to anyone, but I really want to bring it up. Anyone remember Wagakki Band and their cover of Senbonzakura from the actual rankings?

Which I've recently been replaying a bit of while waiting for Cross Rays to come out later this month. Oddly enough, they put her into Genesis as a free DLC so you can use her as a Gundam pilot. I'd been using her in game for a while and tonight decided to look up who Yuko was and...uhh...it was kinda weird to find out that one of my strategy RPG characters is the singer of a song from the ranking topic. Weird good, anyway.

Probably wouldn't have helped the song's placement any, but it would have been a slightly interesting tangent for the song's writeup if I'd known about it earlier.

Nice

Naturally I remembered it (since I have another cover of senbonzakura to be rated still), so I think that's neat

Speaking of, no need to rush, Raetsel. I'm more than happy enough you've continued to give your thoughts period on so many of my other selfish requests when you didn't really need to and I didn't even expect you to in the first place
