I think a key difference is with Luke it doesnt all happen so fast for him. What TFA Rey does is like if Part IV Luke managed to mind control a Stormtrooper or two, enter Vaders mind and try to use Force suggestion powers on him and then fight and injure him at the end of the movie.

Biggs literally says Luke is the best pilot he has ever seen and it wouldn't be too different than what he used at home. He uses the force to guide a shot's timing and trajectory in something that he is self-admittedly and by his friends accounts already very good at.

I mean we are possibly gonna find out Anakin and Rey are siblings in Ep9 potentially (same dad) They recently canon'd Palpatine as Anakins Dad in a comic or something. Which makes Luke a Palpatine too and all sorts of other stuff.

Not living up to expectations is Kylo Ren's thing. Legendary bloodline and trained by Luke himself and Kylo Ren is still a screw up.

I think the idea with Rey is that she's discovering her force abilities on her own as she goes. While her being overpowered is still a valid criticism, it makes me wonder if some Star Wars fans are so dim-witted they need information spoon fed to them, like how we're literally told of Anakin's force sensitivity in Episode I without having him demonstrate it for a while.

Luke is the best pilot Biggs has ever seen because Luke is instinctively tapping into the Force while flying, much like Anakin did while podracing, much like Rey does in the ST.

I thought TFA was great and easily the best SW film since the OT. I liked the plot, the new characters were instantly likeable, the classic characters were used excellently, and the Han/Kylo scene got more legit emotional reaction from me than anything else in SW.

TLJ was good but I didn't think it was as fun as TFA. My biggest problem with it was just the idea of setting it immediately after TFA. It just wasn't able to move the ball much in terms of the trilogy's overall plot because there was no in-between time to set up new circumstances. This wasn't even entirely its own fault, since the way TFA ended with Luke and Rey basically required it. Also the casino world felt way too prequel-y for me, and once again Poe had almost nothing to do after the first act and didn't even have the "unintended main character" excuse from TFA.

POE AND FINN: "Wow!"

FINN: "No, no, no, no oh no."
ROSE: "I crunched the numbers. I can only get a shield up for thirty seconds. That's... not going to be long enough."
POE: "So you're telling me we're all going to die because we can't run fast enough? That's unacceptable!"
JANNAH: "No. There is a way. The majestic space horses can bring us to the MacGuffin."

Quick cut to lasers blasting every which way as majestic space horses do majestic space horse things en route to the MacGuffin.

The more I think about it, the more I realize how wrong a choice to direct TLJ Rian Johnson was, undoubtedly talented though he is. TLJ is basically the cinematic equivalent of trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

As much as I loved Last Jedi, there are some things that could've been done better. A half hour could have at least been cut. And honestly I don't think Rose should have been introduced, especially since Rian (I love this guy but still) only added her because he was obsessed with the actress.

If it had been Finn and Poe going off together it would have made for better character development.

That said, I know everyone already hates Rose so I don't wanna fan those flames. She's still an alright character to me. Just kinda unnecessary.
