I agree Batlhier > Poe by a good amount, but Balthier has better supporting cast too so it's similar

FFXII's cast is lowkey kind of good. It just gets weighed down by the fact that it simultaneously has the worst main protagonist AND worst main antagonist in the series.

FFXII also had the problem of not having a plot that takes advantage of the good characters it does have

Poe's decent. He's easily the weakest of the big four. (Easily.) But he's alright.

I liked Abrams Poe a bit more than Johnson Poe, even though I feel like his existence as a character wasn't as paper thin in The Last Jedi. (And not just due to comparative screentime reasons, either.) Neither of them are anything to write home about but I don't think he's boring at all. Just thin.

Rey > Kylo > Finn > Poe. More to the point, Rey > Kylo > Finn >>> Poe.

Depending on episode 9, I may rank Kylo first. Depends on how his character is actually taken.

Shes probably at the bottom of the list for me. I dont find her terrible but I can never really get a good bead on how Im expected to react when shes around? I think Kelly Marie Tran is solid in her role but the writing for her is almost as bipolar as Janeway in Star Trek: Voyager.

I can scarcely fathom thinking Vayne is worse as a lead villain than Mateus, Cloud of Darkness, or Barthandalus. Anything else feels appropriately subjective but those three? Geez.

I'll take the Dissidia forms of the first two over Vayne. Barthandalus actually had the decency to show up in the main plot before the last boss fight and give me a few fun battles.

Vayne is so boring that they basically had to give him Dr. Cid's motivations at the end to give you a reason to care about fighting him.

I really like Finn. I feel like the movies hadn't had an important character like him before now.

I had such high hopes for Finn. The idea of a reformed storm trooper rebelling against the evil empire is, like you said, a perspective we haven't seen in Star Wars (at least the main movies; it's probably been done a dozen times in the EU). There was so much potential to tell a cool story with Finn, and they pissed it away immediately by making him useless comic relief. He's the closest thing this trilogy has to Jar Jar.

Also, what the hell was up with Benicio del Toro's character? Is he seriously not returning in the last movie... like he just disappears after betraying the heroes and is never heard from again? Talk about another interesting character that they just piss away.

If he doesn't at least show up on Disney+ at some point I'll be disappointed.

I'm firmly in the "TLJ was good" side of The Great Internet Divide and eagerly await TROS, but it really does seem like the dude isn't returning and if that is the case then dang.

He's not super likable, no, but that's a byproduct of the kind of character being portrayed and it's portrayed well. A character doesn't need to be inherently likable to be a good character that enhances the story

For me, I liked TFA Kylo but knew as soon as I was out of the theater for the first time that a ton was riding on how he'd develop in the next film. I couldn't get a complete gauge on where I stood with him just yet. As it turned out, he was sublime in TLJ, and now he's legitimately one of my favorite villains in fiction.

I really like Daisy Ridley as Rey, but I still think her potential was capped because they just made her too perfect a person from the get-go. One of the reasons Luke worked so well as a hero was because he needed a great deal of help and often seemed in over his head (maturing and needing less help as the story progressed). This made him more relatable and also gave other characters valuable things to contribute - nearly every main character in ANH saved Luke's bacon, even the droids and fucken Wedge.

With Rey, I feel as though every other person in the Resistance could be wiped out, and she'd just solo the First Order and win. Link works in video games (DUH), but not in movies imo.

Like these are how I view them

Maul - His design is great and while he may not have much to his character in the movies he means business and makes himself an immediate threat. Plus we all know dual wielding is cool.

Dooku - He might not command a room with his presence, but he makes up for it with his impressive skills that let him fight off some of the strongest characters in the series and thats worth something to me at least.

General Grievous - literally wasted in the live action stuff and its a goddamn shame because he was awesome in the animated movie. I really like the concept of his character.

Vader - Absolutely dominates the atmosphere whenever he appears. You can feel the tension and fear of those around him when hes there and they know he wont hesitate to choke the life out of somebody.

Emperor - Master Manipulator with all the schemes and the best of them imo

Kylo - Looks like somebody who got bullied and had his lunch money stolen and later started cutting himself because nobody understood him
