I legit like Red Mage more than most of FFIV's cast.

And that's ignoring 8-bit material. The Red Mage as a character class just has a certain charm to it that a lot of FFIV characters fail to reach even having dialogue and whatnot. The hat and overall aesthetic is sweet, and doing swords + all the magic at a weakened level is fun and not something you see much among traditional fantasy character classes.

I don't ignore 8-bit material when voting I'm just saying even if I do I really love the Red Mage concept.

I like the twins (esp Porom), Edward, Tellah, cid, yang, Cecil rubicante and golbez a lot.

No real use for Kain, FuSoYa or Rosa though.

Only FFIV characters I really enjoy are Edge, Rydia and Kain. Maybe Tellah too. I just find so much of the cast very flat and dry as characters.

Rydia I feel pretty neutral on because her big dramatic moments happen off screen but I do like her.

Edge has a cool design.

Edge, Rydia and Yang are ok. The DS dub is pretty good. Thats about all the positive I have for IV

I liked FFIV too in my younger years, but that doesn't mean I'd be throwing random saves to Tellah or Rosa.

There's a reason Kain's mind was "weak" and Golbez just isn't mind controlling everyone willy nilly and that's cause a large part of Kain wanted to do dick over Cecil cause of jealousy and having feelings for Rosa himself.

Kain and Rydia and Cid are the only good characters in FFIV. The rest are decent at best with most of them being bad.

Still better than IX's cast on the whole though.

also like Golbez and find Kain and Cid P decentish, Edge ok too (used to like then I replayed and he was so damn frail). Rydia is solid

edward is a funny Save just because I imagine hes literally hiding off screen whenever hes safe from whatever bloodshed is causing people to die

I'm commenting on the fact that you've always told me you like FFs starting with like VIII or IX because characters were too thinly-written and less focused-upon before that or... something to that effect

And FFIV, decent as it is, is very much a thinly-written video game

I mean IV DS doesn't change a ton as far as plot goes but I did quite like opening the menu with every party member in the lead to read their thoughts after every plot point. Fleshes a lot of characters out or in some cases the dungeon itself. Like the best part is in the final dungeon the characters start to think weird things as you get closer and closer to Zemus, presumably because he's SPREADING DARK THOUGHTS or something.

Naw, I know I'm talking about him in particular because we're close friends off the board. But I did completely forget about that, so fair enough. It's just that he always seems to regard the more (relatively) modern FFs as where the series started getting good, at least in discourse with me, so it seems odd.

To kind of just leave some final thoughts on the whole Braska situation, given talk in this topic of him being a joke character and even a menace....

An FFX-0 run was first discussed two contests ago when Auron and Jecht were both hard booted. Meant obviously as a redemption run for those two characters, but adding a fun twist by including the third member of that original trio. We had to wait a whole contest to enact the plan, and finally getting the chance this contest, I feel proud of helping get all three of them to the top 25 and beyond. I don't know if I'd classify Braska as a joke character in this instance because those type of characters are usually isolated entities voted for exclusively for their quirk and not as part of a larger orchestrated plan. Likewise, I feel like it's unfair to call him a menace based solely on a few saves he might have gotten in the last few rounds that may or may not have been to eliminate stiffer competition. If your favorite got ousted by Braska savers, there's probably more appropriate places that blame could be cast aside from just Braska.

I legit plan on pushing YRP in two contests for Yuna redemption and to boost Paine. Even though I really like Yuna and Rikku almost solely for FFX and not X-2.

Maybe I'll go back and play more of X-2 to put me in the mood when the time comes.

Aside from Rinoa/Kain, that's a pretty weak group. Maybe Seifer could get some support if he sneaks through boots and we have a ton of early FFVIII elims again.

Maybe I'm just a little salty because I'm a Jecht fan, but I feel like Jecht should've been a higher priority than Braska in this run. After all Jecht was the other one who got booted and has more of a character.

That said I don't blame any of the Braska savers, people can save whoever they want, so what can you do
