It takes a while for all the pieces of the battle system to come together, and it isn't explained as well as it could be (the first Xenoblade let you replay tutorials at any time, so I'm not sure why 2 doesn't), but I enjoyed it well enough once it got there and I figured out what I was doing.

This. Once is clicks, the battle system becomes really fun. Albeit, a lot of it is tedious and needlessly complicated.

Plus, I loved hearing the announcer shout "Awesome!" and whatnot.

Unrelated, but I forgot how fucking awful the sound mixing in this game is. You can barely hear some of these characters over the OST in cutscenes. And I wish it were an isolated incident, but it happens over and over again.

Yeah, this was a major gripe I had. In battle is just a clusterfuck of people talking to each other, shouting commands/battle moves, SFX, and the music.

When you get into battles against multiple enemies that each have blades, it sounds like a fucking debug sound mode. I'm not sure why they thought that was a good idea.

Good luck maxing out her affinity. It's been a trial of patience for me. You basically give her up for 100 hours.

I somewhat enjoy grindfests if the gameplay is tight, which it is here, but this game may not be for those of you who like to just barrel through story modes. This is for those who like to get down into game mechanics and enjoy constantly changing gear and setups to maximize your outcomes.

Nialls Fantasy Scottish and Rex is just Fantasy British. Theyre not related, and they hardly ever speak to each other.

They dont even have the same model. Theyre both just young, and Niall is probably older than Rex, hes just super short, same as (Torna Spoilers) Hugo, the ACTUAL cloned character model.

Because Rocs neither male nor female

Seriously. Try to put them in a Merc Mission that specifically requests a male or female. Roc qualifies for neither. In the games code, Rocs gender is 3 iirc.

I'm still trucking along. Over 100 hours in and only on chapter 5 lol currently my team is Morag, Rex, and Nia, with me controlling Morag as an agility tank buuuut I honestly feel my team of Tora, Rex, and Nia to be way better (with me controlling Rex for crazy damage output). Tora holds onto aggro like crazy, has a good set up to tank with Poppi Alpha, hit's like a truck with enemies facing him, and with an item that'll occasionally double auto-attacks, the computer ai builds up the special metre quickly.

I felt the same. But I think it was because I was so use to them... Plus, I have the DLC. So my Poppi was really good from the start...

I think it's cuz if I start fighting enemies 7-8+ levels higher, my Morag's agility isn't really high enough to avoid a lot of attacks, so with Tora, we'd probably survive longer.

I'm not sure about their actual model designs, but the drawings of them in the blade codex will actually say which artist drew them.

i think i was at the main military city when i stopped? some dud who worked with toras dad ran up and was all "hey what's up do you remember me"

and tora said no and everyone was all omg tora

and the guy was all "no that's understandable i am forgettable"

Completely agree. I'm actually starting to love it, and that's after 100+ hours. When I'm not playing, I find myself thinking about optimal builds with blades and drivers, taking passives into account, aux cores, pouch items, equipment, etc, etc. It can get very convoluted and almost puzzle-like when you really get into it.

On the flip side, it's suuuuuuch a grind-fest, and the characters and story dont carry it well enough. I consider this a hardcore niche title, more-so than the other 2 Xenoblade games. I feel like most normal gamers won't really enjoy it, or flat-out get bored of it.

Hardcore RPG gamers who really enjoy exploiting enemy weaknesses, setting up engines, and constantly tweaking their team will love this game. Other gamers who enjoy chilling out for an hour or two? Can't really recommend the game.

I don't even think the first two Xenoblade games are niche at all. Well, maybe X is just b/c of how weird and nonsense the plot becomes.

XC2 definitely is though, for the reasons you stated and some of the atrocious and downright annoying main characters (looking at you, Rex and Tora).

It's a shame, it's still a good game, but it feels like it could've easily been an incredible game if they just did things a little differently.

I also don't think the first two Xenoblade games are as polarizing either. X has such a grand sense of scope and exploration (on the same scale as Breath of the Wild imo), and that freedom of movement easily carries the entire game. XC1 is pretty close to a masterpiece, and much easier to recommend as well.

This game is VERY top-notch, but not for the mainstream audience.

I'm still upset that they patched "Think you can take me!" out of the game
It was annoying at first, but quickly became charming in a weird way
