Everyone talks about how [Band] saved their life, and how those concerts were the most fun thing ever, but I was always ashamed to even give any of those things a shot because my parents were always pretty quick to tell me those things were white people shit.

Even just listening now, besides the fact that my audio processing is kinda garbage, so I cant even really understand some of the lyrics without reading them first, I still kinda feel... ashamed. Like it isnt for me.

Don't. I've listened to music since I was a kid and sometimes the best this is to just look up the lyrics to see what's being said.

I was a radio DJ for several years. I just did what I was told and never paid attention to the music for the most part. I got to hear some great music but didn't start caring until about the time I got laid off

I missed out on so much. The only things that mattered to me at first was that the job was easy and fun. Yeah, it was great meeting some famous bands but it never resonated with me until I got older. But that's what happens when you're young.

You can always make up for lost time even if you can't have it back.

Back at school most folk thought the Goth were weird and I listened to mostly pop on the radio. When I left school though I got to know a few goths and actually enjoyed their music. Some of it I never will such as death core but others sure. I've never been to concerts though and certainly won't claim artists have saved my life. They simply make life more enjoyable.

Well the people I hear talking about that are mostly talking about emo bands that appealed to their teenage angst.

Still makes me feel weird when I hear people just... talking about music

Teens are emotional, they exaggerate on the "saving their life" part, though I do agree with you on the going to concert parts, wish I did that but I never did.
