Are you asking if certain countries dont have a poverty problem because our poor is getting enough food to be fat? Though, that could depend one certain things. Like if they were fat before becoming poor. Or the type of food they are able to get their hands on. And stuff like that...

Im asking if people consider Western poverty the same as developing countries poverty.

Real talk: outside of mental problems, I think being a hobo in a rich country is largely a reflection on the person. In Somalia or something, youre really at the mercy of lots of bad stuff.

Real talk: you've clearly no direct personal experience of how people can genuinely slip between the cracks. You imagine that in Western countries, there's a safety net that will always catch almost everyone and stop them from falling too far. I'm here to tell you: the safety net has more holes in it than you know, and if you fall through them, you can fall a long way down. It's scary as fuck when you make that discovery.

There is a big difference between being poor in Africa and poor in America. However, there is also a big difference between being wealthy in Africa and wealthy in America. As such starving to death in Africa is proportionally the same tier as being homeless in America. Your poll options are not mutually exclusive. In fact they are complimentary.

Eeyup. Obesity and SES are inversely correlated for exactly this reason. Eating healthily is expensive, especially when you also take into account that cheaper places to live also tend to be food deserts.

Most of the obese "bums" either haven't been homeless for long or are between places and aren't exactly living on the streets. It's kinda like the old Chris Rock joke, "When you see a homeless man with a funny sign, you know he hasn't been homeless very long. Real homeless are too hungry to be funny."

Obesity and poverty go hand in hand. If you are poor, you are not going to care about what you are eating, and chances are you aren't going to be doing any healthy activities. The cheapest and easiest foods are often the least healthy.

Not a lot of fresh vegetables and fruit in the kitchens of America's poorest.

I was friends with a lot of homeless people in my late teens. They're fat because a few bucks can buy them a few burgers from McDonalds which is quicker and far cheaper than eating healthy. It shouldn't be a surprise that most homeless people don't exactly lead healthy lives either.

Id agree poor america is better than poor in a third world country but I'm not sold on a persons weight has anything to do with that. Hell you could be a criminal thats good enough to steal enough to become fat or have a strong beggar game.

You missed the point. The poll doesn't ask "are they both bad", it's asking are they bad to the same extent.

If youve got people sleeping on concrete benches, out in the woods, and in abandoned subway lines, then yeah theres a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

And I equate all serious problems involving the suffering of humans on the same tier.
