I probably eat more sugar than that from actual fruit. Then again, I have no idea if that's even close to true. Fruit sugar confuses me.

Now sodium on the other hand, I need to cut down on that.

Everyone's daily sugar amount should be as low as possible, period. Doesn't matter if it's soda, fruit, bread, candy, or other foods. The less you have, the better off you are in the long run. Just cutting soda will have a huge impact on speeding up metabolism and fat loss/muscle gain.

Only sugars I'd say are good are the ones found in nutritious veggies like carrots and broccoli, and the natural alternatives like stevia and erythritol.

I actually have a diet spreadsheet. Which says I am over that limit at 48g give or take per day. And that's not counting days I drink beer.

28 of those grams come from syrup I put in my protein shake in the morning.

Doing keto as well? I started about a week ago. Did it almost last 10 years ago and lost around 75lbs in 3 months. Gained it all back since though. So, doing it again combined with 4-5x per week of muay Thai. Don't expect it to come off as quickly as last time but here's hoping. My goal is to lose 50lbs and then focus on Muay Thai and swimming to lose the rest while stopping the keto diet (I can't live without grains, drives me insane).

I did keto as well a few months ago, I went on a standard low-carb diet and a bit of cardio and lost about 40lbs, but keto helped me go beyond the weight loss plateau I was stuck at and lost another 20lbs, and also taught me about health and nutrition. I can get by without grains, I learned how to make low carb breads and biscuits for sandwiches, but the thing I was most unhappy with was my lack of muscle definition. So I cycled back onto a low-moderate carb diet and I can maintain my weight while slowly losing fat and building muscle, being able to enjoy pizza, pasta, bread, oatmeal, etc.

how hard was it to stay on keto for you? I have a friend who is but he's a personal trainer so it makes more sense. but he has to put so much focus on his diet to stay in keto it just looks exhausting.

Keto's really easy, that's probably the biggest draw. If I've been in a rut, or grandma holiday food has bloated me up, keto's the quickest fix to weight loss. I'm not even sure that the process itself burns so many calories; it makes it so easy to just void bad cravings entirely, and then reset to a proper healthy diet.

If you already have a poor diet, you'll notice an immediate drop in weight just cause that's what happens when you cut out the sugar and oil.

It was very sustainable imo, it teaches your body to not live off glucose energy and regulated insulin levels and blood sugar, and thus your cravings and mood swings go away. You basically live off your own stored body fat, and you can go for long periods of time without eating and feel great with no negative drawbacks. I did a 48 hour fast and never got any headaches or stuff. However, you cannot eat certain foods (because of the higher insulin trigger response) and you have to supplement certain things like electrolytes and bile salts, because you're eating a lot more fat than normal, and the liver has to work hard to detox and regulate everything. High levels of uric acid can also build up in the kidneys and form stones, so it's recommended to take lemon juice occasionally. And if you want things like soda or bread or sweets, you have to learn about which ingredients are keto-friendly and either buy the products, or make it yourself. Part of the fun for me was learning to make keto desserts, like edible brownie batter and chocolate peanut butter cups, stuff that satisfies your sweet tooth but is still very healthy.

I try to limit myself to less than four grams per day, but thats not very easy when delicious things exist.

Moderating and controlling my sugar intake helped me lose about 80-90 pounds, so it really plays a bigger part in health than we think. I used to drink a coke every day and that was on top of whatever else I ate that day. I definitely am going through an all bets are off period, but I realize now that I can lose weight again by cutting the sugar out.

One sugar cube is about four grams, so the suggested intake is like nine or ten sugar cubes. per day. That seems like *way* more than you should need, in my opinions.

This article is talking about added sugars - but it's not worded well through a good portion of the article, and it sounds like they're talking about total carbohydrates/sugar, which isn't true at all.

I modified my diet 2 weeks ago....every day I eat 1 cup of spinach, 1 cup of quinoa, 1 cup of carrots, 1 cup of broccoli, and 1 cup of blueberries. I also eat 3 capsules of fish oil. 1 spoon of chia seeds. 1 whole egg + 2 egg whites, baked chicken with only seasoning (no sauce), and vitamin D supplement and ON protein shakes which are low carb. Sometimes I'll use a chia seed+quinoa tortilla and make tacos with quinoa, chicken, and some fajita with just a tiny bit of olive oil. I also use hot sauce and salsa for flavoring.

I have a sweet tooth and I love grains. It was difficult the first time I did it but the results were so good that I stuck with it for 3 months. I would have a cheat day every 2-3 weeks, would take me out if ketosis but would take care of my cravings at least.

I've been back at it again for a week but this time around I've actually started baking some snacks which will definitely help. Hardest part is getting enough fiber. Luckily they sell Coke Fiber + in Asia which contains 7g of dietary fiber, so I drink one of those per day (at least until I can cut soda completely, I use to drink a lot of juice so switching to only water has been difficult).
