I've been waiting for this. Last October I started working my way through the entire Resident Evil series. I played the first three PS1 games and just a few months ago I played Code Veronica. Now I get to play the game everyone said I should have started with, REmake.

I'll be playing the PS4 version and updating this topic throughout. Not sure how much there will be to talk about storywise, but I've made a topic for every game so far and why break from tradition. Really looking forward to running around the Spencer Mansion once again and dreading those god damn Hunters.

Yeah googled what other people were saying and it seems more like mountain climbing's normal/original while the other two are easy and very easy.

Going with Jill first just like the original.

This game's graphics hold up. These had to be top tier during the Gamecube era. It's almost a shame they didn't remake the opening with WMV, but this is a lot more intense. Really going to miss the voice acting though. They don't even say "What a Mansion" or call Jill the master of unlocking. Ah well.

Defensive items eh? That's new. Got a dagger and used it on a zombie and then proceeded to fucking die. Ran out of ammo and tried to knife him, but this ain't Code Veronica unfortunately. Knife seems completely useless once again. I didn't waste an ink ribbon, so time to restart the whole thing.

I don't remember any of this shield stuff to get the key in the original. How much have they changed this game?

Also I died again already. These zombies seem stupid tough to shake off on top of taking over 8 bullets.

about 70% of the game is different in some way.

REmake is probably still the hardest RE game to this date, be prepared for a lot of enemies tanking a ton of ammo. You are really going to need to learn how to run around and/or bait enemies to get by them.

God these camera angles are absolutely beautiful. It's a shame this is the last game to use them. Oh, Zero still does I believe. I know pretty much nothing about that one, but it's next after this.

Alright now I KNOW this tomb shit wasn't here. Book of curses, smell no evil, all this stuff. They changed a lot apparently. I'm down for it. Makes me even more glad I played the original last year.

Ho ho ho hoooo. The glass of the window where the dog jumpscare comes through cracking just a little bit was an awesome touch.

Zombie taking a bath and Jill puking. I like these little added cutscenes. You can usually go a real long time between cutscenes in RE.

Finally got an item box. Ammo seems ridiculously scarce in this thing.

New mechanic involving burning zombies. Some gas and I'm guessing the lighter keeps zombies down. Sure.

Alright shit I've died a lot.

Let's see. Faced my first Crimson Head and that was a pain in the ass. Been burning most bodies where I think I'll have to backtrack to. I'm hoping when the Hunters show up when I return to the mansion after the plant stuff, all those enemies will reboot.

Saved what's his face that got bit by the Yawn with the serum. Didn't waste any time.

Game kept crashing after getting the grenade launcher from Barry.

Got 3 out of 4 of the death masks. The shotgun with a decent amount of ammo which I'm just saving for the second half of the game/Hunters. Have a good amount of defensive weapons stocked up. Found out the best way to escape being grabbed is to wiggle/rotate the analog stick and mashing buttons does nothing.

Right now I'm missing one key and I can't progress to the Yawn fight until I figure it out. Pretty stuck since I feel like I've explored all there is to explore, but I gotta be missing something. I think it's the piano with Moonlight Sonata. I got the sheet music, but can't find where the hell that room is. IIRC, it's on the west side, but I'm not sure. I've got that and the emblem from over the fireplace at the start of the game over the blood I hope's not Chris' blood. I'll figure it out tomorrow when I get back to it. I'd like to even finish Jill's side off if I can manage. I was making some real fast progress there for a while.

Thanks. Yeah I really like that feature. I'm pretty thorough in the way I clear out rooms, but there are times where my inventory is full and I've got to leave behind a herb or ammo. Having the map show that is useful.

I love that the game messes with you if you played the original. There are spots where you will be expecting an enemy to pop out and it doesn't, and spots where you don't expect it and it does. That actually makes it a little more scary in my opinion. You have an expectation and it shatters it sending you from overconfident to worried.

Alright figured out the door I missed and I was right. It's the one with the piano. Used the sheet, traded the emblems, solved the clock and got the key, but much to my surprise, this is not the last key.

There's one hallway, the one with the mirrors showing the corners, on the second floor west wing, that is just death. There was one crimson head there that I was running past and then another popped up and then ANOTHER. So three of them, tight corridors, can't really dodge. I could clear them out with about 6 shotgun shells I suppose, but that's a lot. Maybe I can just avoid going there again, or making a mad dash from room to room.

OH MY GOD RICHARD KICKED THE YAWN'S ASS.

I was all geared up, expecting a big fight and Richard just comes in and kicks the shit out of it. I think I used up 6 handgun bullets and won. That's an amazing reward for saving his ass.

If I kill the Yawn fast enough while Richard's still shooting him, will Richard still get eaten? Anyone know?

2 shotgun shots and a dagger to the head, but I put the coffin bastard down. Glad they gave me some ammo back. Kinda thought this mask thing would be a sidequest of sorts, but seems like it's required to progress.

Yeah no way to prevent Richard from dying, but you get his shotgun only if he dies from a monster.

And in traditional Resident Evil fashion, I have immense trouble with the flying bird enemies. Why do these crows sound like freaking monsters?

Oh yeah. Reloaded. Waste 1 shot on Lisa (where is her name revealed?) and this time got the Magnum. Saving that bad boy.

Wait you get your daggers back if you explode their heads?! Wow. That seems like a game changer.

FUCK! I ran back over the hole in the floor without stepping on the boxes and the vine grabbed me by the throat. Scared the shit out of me. That's the best one yet. Previously, the first time a crimson head got up had the top spook spot.

Whoa. Also did not see that hanging zombie the first time through here... Saving myself some good ass ammo knowing which rooms I can clear out quickly and in which order. Scouting ahead on that run where I knew I had to die really paid off. Really time consuming though. I'm just too damn conservative about saving up ammo. 4 RE games now and never once was I low by the endgame. I really should just throw caution to the wind more often.

Alright notes for later.

Green Candle=Eye with circle pupil, 3 lashes and 1 under.

Orange Candle=Eye with cat pupil, lines on both sides.

Red Candle=Eye with circle pupil annnnd looks like two slanted lashes.

Frigging sharks. Drained the water. Hmm. I remember that I have to kill that plant. Not sure where to next though. Think I'm calling it for now. Might get a little late night progress in if I can later.

Alright there was a key next to the giant shark that was not very visible. That's a bad angle.

And then the spraying the bees through the hole took me a while. *sigh*

Wow. Did the V-Jolt and that's 2 entire boss fights avoided. Awesome. There's still the second Yawn fight and the Tyrant, but I'm prett stacked to the gills with heavy ammo and herbs. Bring it on.

Birkin also got the G-Virus from her. She is pretty much the reason for the T and G viruses as well as the Nemesis Parasite.

I pretty much cleared the mansion, killed the Yawn and made it to the underground caves. 5am and that is a night. This last part was a bit of a slog, but I was ready for the Hunters this time around at least. Also they got me good with a jump through the window scare.

Alright ran around with the levers and the blocks and the puzzles. Killed the giant spider. Died to 2 Hunters getting me in a damn corner trap. FUCK.

Redid all that. Went down the elevator annnd here's Lisa.

Found more magnum rounds, so that makes like 18 or so. That's my Tyrant killer for sure. I've also got about 50 or 60 handgun rounds, but those feel absolutely useless at this point in the game. No stopping power might as well mean death.

Found poor Lisa's room. So that's her mom's face she made a mask out of. I remember reading her dad's diary or note in some trap in the mansion. Was he the crimson head in the coffin with the 4 masks?

And I'm back at the creepy shack. I guess I just don't even kill Lisa. Damn. She could probably even survive the mansion exploding if she's down in the caves too. Sad she's never put out of her misery. Now I'm thinking about who Mr. X and Nemesis might have been. That could make for a cool twist or reveal in a prequel side game. Some member of STARS does some mission, gets caught by Umbrella and transformed into Nemesis. With all the books out there, I bet they've already revealed who their identity was though probably. Anyway...

Oh. Guess we're not done with Lisa. Mannnn I gotta be honest. If this was my first time playing this game I probably wouldn't give Barry his gun back. Dude's dicked me over way too hard here and i the original I forgave him right away because he had all the best lines. No Jill sandwiches or master of unlockings here to make him more endearing. Still, I gave him his gun back. Time to kill Lisa I suppose.

Saved Chris. Getting the best ending. Weird going in his cell is from the angle of a camera. Think that's the only time in the game that happens. Mannn they shoulda made it so Chris sticks with you for the rest of the escape. Coulda helped with the enemies.
