*Very minor spoilers to follow, just about the premise of the game*

It's out on PS4 now. I have done a few loops now, and all I can think about is this game. I am sitting here at work just wishing I could go home and play that game, which I pretty much never do. This game has an amazing sense of discovery that I haven't seen anywhere else, it's kind of the game I always wished would exist when I was a kid.

Though I will say, I was exploring the cave below the icy summit in Timber Hearth and I just died, it was like the Supernova but happened far more quickly than 22 minutes from the start of the loop. Wonder what that was...

I have been playing this off and on for a few months now I want to love it as many aspects seem to be tailor made for me. Finicky/Cumbersome controls, repetitive intro (I don't enjoy space flight), and inability to explore on my terms has prevented me from wanting to return to it more frequently.

There are some control issues for sure, particularly revolving around the jumping. I really like the space flight though, the decision to use somewhat realistic locomotion takes some getting used to but really pays off.

Hmm, you sure you didnt just lose track of time? If the music changed to that same song it always does right before that happened then it was definitely the regular course of events. Its been months since I played but I dont remember an icy summit on Timber Hearth with a cave beneath it, but I can think of a different explanation if you were in a certain other place.

Fantastic game. Probably my strongest contender for GOTY so far. Loved piecing together the various stories, the janky wooden spaceship and the world itself. Certain planet mechanics wore a bit thin by the end, but overall a phenomenal experience.

Also, dont look up the achievements/trophies till you finish. Much more fun discovering them by accident and its the kind of game you can easily mop up when youre done if you want to.

Ive heard this could be considered like a successor to Subnautica, an exploration game with a Deep story.

Took a little while to grow on me but definitely one of the best games to come out in 2019.

It has a similar atmosphere to Subnautica, there are very limited survival mechanics like oxygen but that's it.

Also I found an ending by Dying before you get to the statue. It rolls credits which is amazing.

just started playing this game

i was playing around with the model ship on my keyboard before actually taking off in the real ship, and i was getting real annoyed feeling like these controls were impossible. then i buckled down and really figured them out and now it feels so good. When I finally had some controlled flying and went into the geyser for the first time to be thrown up distantly into the sky, watching it get smaller and smaller as I continued to engage thrusters to move it around a little, i just.... had a big smile on my face for some reason

i dont know what it is about this game but i think there's something special here.

Lost my save data due to some computer issues, but since progress doesn't really carry over, it only set me back about 10 minutes (after several hours of playing). Very neat way of doing things.

Using a guide now since I often find the game frustrating, though. Alas.

I actually finished it yesterday and I have to say, this is a brilliant game. I did have to look up how to get to one of the final areas (it involves warping) though, that was a little obscure.

Also thank goodness for cloud saves because my save data corrupted at one point.

Question: I've been spending most of my loops exploring Brittle Hollow, but I'm having a hard time understanding the interior of the planet. I haven't really figured out how it all connects together, and I activate those blue paths that push you along, but they always end up dropping me into the black hole.

How do those even work? Do you have to activate both sides for them to work? If so, does that mean they are just shortcuts if you've been to both sides in the same loop? Or do you actually use them to get to new areas?

Brittle Hollow is annoying. Basically, you're supposed to ride the blue paths until you're above another one, then move out of the path so you fall into the new one. You do need to ride them to get to the observatory and I think the Quantum puzzle on that world.

Almost done with this game. I've done everything except Dark Bramble. I took one peek in there and NOPE.

I feel like I could get an ending by yanking the core out of the ATP, but I still want to know the deal with Feldspar, the Vessel, Pod 3 and how to get to the probe tracker in Giant's Deep.

Just gotta work up the courage, I guess. Maybe I'll play in a bright room during the day

it's an epic games exclusive for now. it'll probably be on steam eventually but it won't be soon enough to hold your breath for

the outer worlds / outer wilds similarities even extend there - i installed the epic games launcher JUST to buy the outer worlds which is also an exclusive to epic for now and that's how i even discovered outer wilds exists. These are my only two games on that launcher...

close to beating it

i know what I have to do to finish the game now, but the final sequence of events is EXTREMELY tedious. navigating to the vessel sucks, especially so when under time pressure.

If I had beat it on my first try, this would have easily been a 10/10 game, one of the best I've ever played. but after half a dozen times getting chomped by anglerfish, I'm giving up for the day and going to bed angry

Yup. All my previous journeys to Dark Bramble took one or two tries to get past the Anglerfish, but once I was actually trying to beat the game, I tried five times and died every time (sometimes to the first one, even!).

I gave up and watched the ending on Youtube, which felt like an acceptable substitute in this case.

It took me I believe three tries. The ending portion is hard which is kind of a shame since it takes the momentum out there, that is basically my only real gripe with the game.
