Pretty straight forwards. There is a person who is working in the same job as you, roughly the same level, and you are attracted to them. Your attraction has nothing to do with job position. Would you attempt to date said person or, instead, push said feelings aside in favor of workplace professionalism?

Yeah, at least if I were brave enough to ask anyone. Sure, a bad break up might cause issues down the line, but I think people should be mature enough to see each other at work without causing problems

Nope. Anyone with any experience knows that you don't fish from the company's pier.

All it takes is a single false claim to ruin your entire life and career. And, as we've seen many times recently, false harassment claims can be taken seriously years later without any proof whatsoever.

A lot of my girlfriends were co-workers. Most of my breakups were amicable so it didn't really affect my friendships or work relations.

My current, and probably last girlfriend was my boss.

Overall, no. I am sure it can work out for some couples but I feel the potential fallout if the relationship goes sour and the affect with work and/or issues at work affecting the relationship could make it something not worth pursuing. I do/did have coworkers who are married but both spouses worked in different departments at least and had no work related interactions at work.

No. There's too much of a chance of it not working out, even for reasons that would be perfectly innocent if it they occurred with someone you met in another setting, and then it would be weird to have to see them again at work.

This might also be a reason against dating someone you meet at, say, a gym or pool, where you might see them again a lot if it doesn't work out.

What about places like a store, though. I go to the store pretty often? Or anywhere close to home? Like a gas station or small convenience store...

Only under very specific circumstances because not only can you lose your job, but it can derail your entire career if things somehow go haywire. Granted, since work takes up so much of the week, it's kinda natural that somebody would find a romantic partner there.

Ended up marrying one.

We worked together (not closely, but we did interact every day), so it might have seemed a bit of a gamble from a work point of view. But I already risked a lot just by going out with her, so the chance that things might get awkward at work was a minor worry.

No, I wouldn't date someone I work with for a few reasons. The first is that a lot of people bring their work problems home with them and vice versa; so if you've had a fight with that coworker, everyone around you knows it. The second is that, if either you or your coworker gets promoted or fired, and the other half of the pair doesn't, it could ruin your relationship if not cause problems with your other coworkers. Third is that a lot of large companies have rules against nepotism or the appearance of it; they will, if they learn of your relationship, either move the two of you to separate departments or, if they can't discourage the relationship that way, try to persuade either you or your coworker to work somewhere else in order to keep there from being an appearance of 'impropriety' in the workplace. .

The one that I'm currently living with isn't the only coworker that I've dated. Even when those others ended there weren't any problems. I guess we were just mature enough to handle our shit. Really, it's no different than dating someone from your friend group. If things end you still see each other since you're friends with all the same people.
