Issue has nothing to do with us. Also once you look deeper the situation is more morally complex than the mainstream media is portraying it as. It's not as simple as "China are the bad guys while Hong-Kong are the freedom fighters"

Most people don't actually care about movements happening on the other side of the world. It's about appearances.

They do care about China trying to dictate what Americans can and cannot say.

Why was the first one deleted?

But on topic the protest has gotten to the point where it is sort of ironic that while we shout about China's authoritarianism in censorship but people online has gone to the point where they say that if you are not 100% with the protesters then you are against it in its entirety. And I mean 100% that they are doing nothing wrong whatsoever kind of mentality whereas both the police are wrong and also the real protesters not the CCP hired ones have done some really bad shit over the months.

Government sponsored authoritarianism vs. the Internet getting angry at people who support the country responsible for said authoritarianism

I can't tell the difference

I suppose Americans shouldn't be expected to care, but I'm glad to see that they do.

Also, um, yeah, it really is that simple.

americns can surely be interested in or support hong kong, but the vast majority of discourse you see here or other similar communities about it is useless reactionary shit from people who really just wanna shitpost about video game companies they're mad at

That's a good point. Why didn't we care about how evil China was when they were throwing millions of Muslims into concentration camps and harvesting their organs? I can't help but feel like this has something to do with Trump getting his ass handed to him in those trade wars

usually the worst things happen under the best intention. thats why all eyes and social media are there. something is going to happen. it aint gonna be resolved anytime soon.

as long as somebody is making noise about hong kong, people will watch what happens next.

amazingly this principle vs profit stuff has taken a movement of its own. companies are the gate keepers of their communities in sports and video gaming it seems. i wonder how this will turn out. i hope its not swept under the rug like it usually does.
