Gamefaqs in general has died over the decade. Social boards I used to frequent used to have new posts every few seconds but that has changed to like one post per week or fewer even.
Also compare a PS4 games' Gamefaqs pages to a PS1 game. Even the most popular games nowadays don't get FAQs, screenshots or even reviews. PS1 games are filled with different walkthroughs with FAQs of any game mechanic within the game you can think of. Separate FAQs for things like story, specific character strategies etc.
Now Twitch, Youtube etc. have taken over video game fandom and Gamefaqs just isn't as relevant as it was in the 90s/2000s.

It's because many of the people here are cruel to each other so they end up not wanting to come back if they are new. People are afraid to be themselves and express themselves here because of the fear of being ostracized. This is ironic considering the prevailing political philosophy claimed by these people is one of being open-minded and non-bigoted. When all that really happens is equal opportunity bigotry on a non-idenitarian level. As if being mean wasn't the bad part of an experience, but being mean and using identity-based slurs.

Note, the people quoting me and shitting on me are the very ones I'm talking about. Is it any wonder why random normal folk would stay away from such people? Ironically, the meanie-heads here can't handle the pain either and are often moderation happy when they get a dose of their own medicine.

This is very true, but it always has been. I guess in the past it was just more diluted since it was far more active.

Yeah, I just periodically check in now. Used to spend a ton of time here with hundreds of posts at any given time. Now I have 5 or less active posts whenever I check.

GameFAQs is just slowly dying in general, but PotD in particular has really come to a screeching halt.

I feel like a decent chunk of the reason, in addition to GameFAQs being less popular as time goes on, is that people like drama. I generally don't, but I feel like some of our more notable trolls to leave this place kinda left a hole, because they definitely made this place more active.

Yep it's because of youtube, why see photos when you can just look how the game really looks and plays, similarly you can just skip to the part you're stuck in on playthroughs rather than start browsing a faq.
As for reviews, people mostly go by company or hype nowdays but again i suspect youtube is the culprit here as well as reviews there are still going strong, botw reviews there can easily pass 1mil views.

During the PS1 era we didn't have youtube so...gamefaqs.

Kids don't need to look up faqs for generic fps games or mindless button mashers anymore.

I don't think the people here are evil though. Like Cacciato. He was a little boy once with a Mom and Dad that loved him. He just needs to find a girlfriend to temper his heart. Others probably just use this anonymous area to vent the boredom and frustration from their days.

I wish all of them all happy lives. There's enough pain and suffering in the world. I imagine being nice all the time isn't fun, but it isn't that hard. lol imagine how different the world would be if we all loved and cared about each other.
