I know the dude meant well, but his suspicions are correct.

If he hadn't called for help w/ what seemed off, she'd still be alive.

In the U.S., you have to seriously consider the threat and likelihood of it before dialing for the police, cause...they'll potentially just roll up and open fire. Sometimes, it's better to just take your chances on your own.
Sad but true.

Out of how many people though? A murder a day is really shitty but when you consider that some cities have hundreds of thousands or even millions of residents it starts to put things in perspective that modern society is relatively much safer for most people.

Comparing it to an actual war torn country full of fleeing refugees is an absolute joke and an exercise in willful ignorance.

Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure.

The sister at the end of that video :'((((

She's absolutely right. Guy had been a cop a little over a year. Maybe they shouldn't be allowed to patrol certain situations without more comprehensive training. Maybe they should shadow a seasoned veteran officer for a number of years before being allowed to do things on their own.

Someone needs to make a video of just this happening. Little baby cigarette busts down the door and starts fanning the hammer of a revolver on some dude's family.

Neighbour: I was just worried that something might be wrong.
Cops: And we made sure there was. What more do you want?

Like, seriously, how does this happen? Neighbour phones in a wellness check on a non-emergency line and these fucking cowboys start creeping around the house like it's a drug den. Why was their first action not to knock on the front door and announce themselves?

That seems like it would have been pretty normal. I don't understand why they didn't do this. Especially since it was on a non-emergency number, like you said...

There's an argument to be made that secondhand smoke should qualify as one. 41,000 deaths a year is quite a bit higher than many actual violent crimes, after all.

At least the cops showed some restraint here, let's give credit where its due.
They apparently didn't go the extra mile and plant some weed at the crime scene to further vilify the victim...this time.
And I for one think that was awfully kind of them.

The bodycam footage is pretty damning. Dude is skulking around on a welfare check instead of you know, knocking on the door, then when she goes to a window he yells "Hands up!" and like, immediately opens fire before she even would have had a chance to comply.

The call was made to a non-emergency number. Why would any police officers first instinct be to circle the house with a gun drawn rather than ring the doorbell?

Yeah. My mom's a cop, and when she saw the video, she was like, "He's going to jail, so he better get ready."

Also, I think the door was open. Where he could have called out to whoever was in the house. I think that's why he made the call for a welfare check...

Ok but the arguement was Syria is safer then a lot of major cities in the U.S.

what about Iran, Iran doesn't have alcohol, is Iran safer to live in than the U.S?

They could have been holding it and aiming it at the cop for all I care. An unidentified man was skulking around the house with a flashlight at night. He could have just as easily been a burglar. Basically the exact situation many gun owners have a gun in preparation for.

The cop belongs in jail.

US percapita homicide rate is 5.3 (per 100k)
Syria (which was mentioned) is 2.2
Canada is 1.8

but there are countries with way worse, like Mexico at ~25, Brazil at over 30, Jamaica at 57, etc.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

also this is straight up homicide, and excludes suicides, war-related killings (which changes things a lot depending what you're looking for), self-defense killings, etc.

also, some US cities are significantly worse. such as St Louis at 61 and Baltimore at 51.
