>posts serious question
>talks like a child

This isn't a topic you actually want answered is it? You just want people to start arguing over if it should be taught or not.

At least a full month of every school year should be dedicated to LGBTQIA history and an exploration of the struggles queer folk (especially queer folk of color) face in today's society.

Everyone knew about it just through friends/uni/etc... but then I got officially "taught" it at work (in anti-discrimination/tolerance training).

I feel it's important for children to start learning about stuff like that at a young age, and being taught that it's a natural thing

like, you have so many people who repress their sexual orientation/gender identity because they came to feel that it's wrong/unnatural, or they might be heterosexual and/or cisgender, but treat others poorly out of prejudice (a lot of it stemming from ignorance)

Homosexuality and bisexuality should be standardized subjects to mention in western Sex Ed.

It's literally sexuality...

Pedro Zamora from The Real World was the first real person I really remember. Though I've probably seen gay characters on tv and film since I was old enough to sit up on my own.

I can't imagine a sex-ed class not bringing it up.

Should parents have da "lgbt talk"? And at what age if so?

If a kid is old enough to ask a question, they're old enough for the answer. So if it's relevant to something they ask, then mix it in with the conversation.

I didn't even consider history class. How embarrassing. Civil rights, and our slow progress away from bigotry are two of the most important lessons needed to teach in school. Clearly. There's no reason a student should make it past third grade without some facet of the topic coming up.

Obviously kids should be educated about the difference between gay, straight and bi, and that they are equally valid despite bigotry against gay people.

This is important because MANY gay children don't even know people can BE gay when they start having gay attractions. Straight people can't really imagine how confusing that is or how harmful it can be to grow up in some of the environments gay kids grow up in.

It would also help minimize homophobia spread among children.

The very basics of the gay rights movement can also be taught in school, similar to how I remember learning about things like the underground railroad or the abolitionist/civil rights movements when I was in elementary/middle/high school.

Kids should just be taught to show respect to everyone and not judge them over their personal choices. As they grow and meet new people they will form their own opinions using those tools.

I was about eight. My dad had his own business and one of his employees that helped my mom with the paperwork was lesbian.

Since my mother was friends with her and her partner, I noticed they lived together. I thought that was strange since you know... So I asked my mom.

"Oh, they are gay."
"What's gay?"
"Most of the time, boys like girls and girls like boys. But sometimes, boys like boys and girls like girls. They like girls... Like I like dad."
"Oh."

And that's the end of the conversation.

Realistically, I think parents should talk to their kids about it, like they should sex in general. Many parents are fucking dumb and can't.... So why not let schools do it?
