24 y/o Emily Clow (who looks older than she is) from Austin, Texas was SHOCKED when the company she applied for PUBLICLY SHAMED her by sharing one of her BIKINI pics on instagram and said "looking or a professional marketer, not a bikini model"!!

She applied to Kickass Masterminds that later posted a picture of her in a caption as emily has called them out for objectifying her and has since received more than 2000 likes on twitter.

The company was founded by female entrepreneur, Sara Christensen who has disabled or privatized all of its accounts due to the response

The original instagram post has been deleted but was reposted by twitter account@SheRatesDogs talking about the company telling people NOT to hire Emily because of her photos that seems to paint her as UNINTELLIGENT

Emily said "I was objectified earlier today by a company because of a picture of me in a bikini. They claimed it made me 'unprofessional'. I am still baffled that the company handled it in such a manner"

She has since received overwhelming response from users to her defense and calling out the company for public shaming as Emily thanked people, particularly women for the support

Sara said "The woman in question was not disqualified beause of her social media profile. In fact, she was not disqualified at all. There was no communication to her saying she was dq'd She requested i removed it and i did immediately and i apologize"

Sara says they were looking for "serious" people who cared about their careers and not people who "party" all the time which is how she saw Emily's public instagram profile and not someone who was serious of a career in marketing

But Emily disputes that and knew right away from that post that she didn't get the job as a company would not post that looking to tell people not to hire her because of her photos.

Is she seriously surprised that a company with a name like that would do something unconventional or unprofessional?

...well, they're not entirely wrong about it being unprofessional. After all, she submitted the social media profile to them. And the company has a valid gripe about those kinds of social media issues, although their handling of it was unprofessional even if they pretty clearly tried to conceal her identity and nobody likely would have known it was her unless she cried foul.

She's average, but the company is completely in the wrong.
It's just a pic of her in a swimsuit, it's not even a "bikini," and its her personal social media account.

And lol @ "marketing is a serious profession!"
Did they forget rule #1? Sex sells. They probably have put out advertisements w/ girls in swimsuits.

It's a shame that it's basically impossible for regular people to boycott an advertising firm, but I hope the company goes under.

The only reason to post pictures of yourself in a pool, or in a bathing suit at all, is to show off your body. It's incredibly unprofessional.

Being out with friends is similarly unprofessional. Certain situations are acceptable but anything that shows you with an alcoholic drink in your hand is not ok.

No one wants to see you playing games or watching movies, but either way, not professional. Having an interest in things like that shows a lack of drive.

I'm just as lazy and unprofessional as anyone out there but you do need to curate the image you put forth on social media, especially when you're job hunting. I cannot tell you how many times my company has decided not to hire/promote someone based on the things they post online.

I agree with this. Why do people have to not live their life to get a job. Should I not hanging out at the beach with friends because Im only in swim trunks? Should I not go to my sisters birthday party? Stuff like that. Those arent professional. Buy theyre not unprofessional, either. Being in a pool isnt unprofessional... Not to mention that her bathing suit isnt even that bad considering the ones Ive seen before...

And thats dumb. And I hope I never work at a place that doesnt like me living my life. I also dont agree. I take pictures when Im in a bathing suit. Usually, its with friends, or someone taking picture while were playing the pool. Or sometimes relaxing in the hot tub. But its not to show off our bodies. Its just us in the pool or hot tub.

I also dont think pictures of people playing games in unprofessional, either. My cousin found a bunch of pictures of his friends and cousins playing games at his house for a party. Because the families are always taking pictures of us. I wouldnt say its unprofessional. Its life.

I can understand while holding a drink might look bad. But Its also shouldnt end someones life, either. Especially since it could have been a party. Not to mention, it could be a virgin drink. And you can be tagged in stuff without you knowing.

Personally, I would do stuff differently if I hired people. To actually hire people based on what they can do instead of social media, unless that was also part of their job...

Maybe 50 years ago that might have been valid, but we live in the social media age when your off-the-job conduct can have a *direct* impact on your employers. More importantly, why would you choose to share unprofessional images with a potential employer?

She probably had more than one picture, I would think... And even then, you cant always get an actual look at a persons life based on social media. Some people put like one or two pictures up ever. Lots of people I know only put pictures up when they go somewhere to have fun. To think someone is partying all the time because they put pictures up with their friends is dumb. And there seems to be only one swimsuit picture that they used. In the end, its just a picture of her living her life. The people saying she dodged a bullet were right. She can go to an actual good company that doesnt tell you to not live your life.

Are you talking about on the picture? Because theyre also shaming her and seemed to lie about doing it. Im not even sure if I believe them saying she did share it. If it was public, they probably couldve easily found it.

wwinterj25 posted...

Youre right? She shouldnt have been shamed the way she was... But because the company shamed her and acted like people dont wear bathing suits when swimming, it became a story. Also, apparently lying and stuff...

Youre right?

Most the time I am yes. This is one of those cases.

Lol I'd rather be on a soapbox advocating against this type of aberrant behavior instead of on one defending it.

I know you're old Sunny so social media maybe alien to you. However most companies these days are fussy with what they have associated with their image. This includes but is not limited to social media posts. My own personal beliefs do not matter. What the company thinks of me in a job interview however would. Maybe this is a lesson to some folk who love to put everything about themselves online. I doubt it though because she's clearly the victim and people are getting dumber.

If they don't want to hire because of a person's social media, that's fine. I'm talking about shaming a person publicly.

It's also possible to not post your workplace on your social media and to set things private so it can't be found via google. But I guess since your jobless, you may not know how to access the internet properly.

Well, also because its a dumb move on the companys part. They rather hire people who dont have personal lives rather than people who could do the job, it seems. And they only hurt themselves. But hiring based on boring social media profiles and then publicly shaming someone, they give themselves a bad image. And she is the victim. They were basically trying to ruin her life by telling others not to hire her because shes a normal human being. That companys not much better than that reporter that went through that other guys social media to find something he wrote when he was young and dumb...
