So like I said before, Back in the day I started this Project where I would start tried to beat a game every day. It was mostly SNES and NES titles. I decided to bring this project back, at least for October.

Gonna be playing games from all sorts of different systems, from the 90's with the SNES to Current gen with the PS4, as well as some PC games from all sorts of different gens.

Like I said before, got a huge list of games I'd like to play. If you'd like to see the list of games I'm considering, go here:

https://pastebin.com/Hy4QZ0iC

So the plan every week is to play 3 games that take 1-6 hours, 2 games that take 7-12, and weekends I'll switch it up a bit to try to beat something that will likely take 13-20 hours by the end of the weekend.

I've started us off by playing one of my faves, the original Donkey Kong Country! I'll talk about my experience with it in a bit.

Up first: Nintendo's got a donkey!

Donkey Kong Country:

Average Time Completed according to HowLongToBeat.com around 4 hours

My time: Around 3 hours

Love the opening of this game, where Cranky Kong is playing the old Donkey Kong Music, then DK shows up to knock him off his tree, and play it rockified. Cranky then shows up with TNT and blows DK up. So hilariously dark in a lighthearted way.

First thing that I'm reminded about this game is how great the music is. I don't think there's one track in this gaeme that isn't great, and it really adds to how insanely re-playable this game is even after all of these years! The best song inthis game is the ocean theme, which is something that you'll hear all over the place as it's super iconic!

The visuals for this game are amazing as well, and a testament to the power of the SNES.

The gameplay is the very definition of fun in its simplicity. For most of the game yo jump around like in any plaformer, and you throw barrels at enemies. The big twist here is that the main character DK can kill stronger enemies by jumping on them, and Diddy Kong can move a lot faster(and is coincidentally my Kong of Choice in this game!)

My favorite levels in the game are probably the minecart levels. What can I say, they're just so damn intense in all the right ways.

The bosses in this game are a lot of fun to fight. I like how how it's always pretty clear right away how to beat them, and they're just so much fun in their simplicity. My 2 faves would be the wasp boss, and boss dum drum, a giant black barrel that throws enemies at you and tries to slam you until it eventually breaks.

I can't help but compare Cranky Kong to Shigeru Miyamato complaining about the success of this game. I think of him as the original annoying jaded gamer complaining that "the only good thing about 3d games are the graphics, and that's all everyone wants now!" Bleh!

Another of my favorite levels in this game is probably the very last water level with its polluted green-blue water. It's just so unexpected and It always catches me by surprised every time!

The last boss I absolutely love as well. There's just something really surprising about him. You're expecting something big and powerful, and while he certainly is big, he's not very powerful or imposing. He's kind a dork that throws his crown at you like a boomerang. The real threat comicn thwn ehen cannonballs get thrown around all over the place. And of course the fake out ending is pretty funny too. He's the kind of lovable dork that I think bowser was intended to be, but nintendo failed completely on that end!

Finally, I wanna mention ending credits music in this game. There's something about that really gets to me every time. I compare it to a really great dialogue scene in an rpg where a really awesome, happy plot twist is revealed.

Overall, I give this game an arbitrary score of 10 out of 10.

It's pure fun, and it's short enough that I don't find myself pining to play something with more of a focus on its storyline.

Oh, and on a side note: I personally believe that this game is better than ANYTHING on NES, and a testament to why people who love retro need to spend a lot less time replaying overated, badly aged titles from, and play remember how great the SNES was. It's a system that I'm still constantly finding new great titles to play on it! Stop thriving on nostalgia, and play something that's aged extremely well instead!

Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure

Average Time Completed according to HowLongToBeat.com: 7 hours

My time: Haven't finished yet.

This is essentially a smile worthy comedy with a lot of charm, and absolutely beautiful visuals!

The main character is this lovable dork that works in a bookshop. A detective comes in, asking for the actual necronomicon, a cultist sets off a bomb and kidnaps the cultist, that comes across the Necronomicon. He reads from it, and wishes that his kitty can talk. They're both freaked out by this. Kitty doesn't want human problems, and they both wanna fix it. She can't even meow anymore.

"My deal is sleeping, eating, and generally being decorative."

I tell ya, the way the kitty moves is adorable. Just watch the first few seconds of this. Go Kitteh, go!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY1O9Dt3ADA" data-time="&start=1154

And yeah, he calls his kitty kitteh. As someone who calls my cat Kitty I can really relate to him.

"I feel a fetch quest coming on."

Visited a Witch Doctor or something to dealw my talking kitty problem. No dice, but I ran into a cabbie whose wifes body was swapped with his cousin, had to do a fetch quest to fix it. He gave me a ride to Stinkville.

Chapter 2:

"I don't want any trouble with Cult Union."

The cultists decide they have no use for the detective, and they decide to sacrafice him. One of em takes him to his holding cell, and calls his buddies to perform the ritual. No one answers his call, and the detective takes him out.

Chapter 3:

Watch this part just for a few seconds, it's hilarious!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY1O9Dt3ADA" data-time="&start=4439

Hehehehe, Kitteh can't sing!

Came across a strange old man that revealed a lot of the plot backstory, but I didn't get it. Ah well.

Caught up with Detective.

I'll cover more later. Had to take a break as I'm not absorbing the story very well.

Portal:

Average Time Completed: around 3 hours

My time: Around 2 hours

I sorta fell out of favor with Gibbons, and so I decided I could have my first failure of the project, or play something else I knew I still wanted an adventure game with voice acting, and I needed something super short, so I went with a game I've been curious about for years.

Yes you heard me, I've never played this before. Seen a ton of people do the "final boss" and ending though.

Simply put, I like the atmosphere, and outsmarting an arrogant jackass with a massively overinflated ego was fun. Don't think it's one of the best games ever made, but I still enjoyed it.

Overall, I give this game an arbitrary score of 7 out of 10.

Crusader of Centry (genesis Zeldaish rpg)

Average Time Completed: Around 8 hours

My time: about 4 hours

Just when I thought that I beat all the genesis rpgs that I ever wanted to, howlongtobeat reminded me of this game, and that I've never beaten it.

This is a pretty good game where early on you get told that you're gonna change the world, and you're given the ability to talk to plants and animals, at the expensive of not being able to talk to humans anymore, and animals join your party and have certain abilities.

A few things I find interesting:

Your dog is the first person to join your team, giving this game sort of a Fallout 4 vibe.(which I am all for! :D )

The first boss is the big vbad wolf. He would have eaten grandma, but the fortune teller warned her of him.

Sonic has a cameo in this game, which is pretty cool.

The third animal to join your team is Cecil the Flying squirrel, likely a reference to Final Fantasy 4!

A red Sea Serpent named Leviathan joins your team after you impress him by fighting him in combat. He's really powerful too. I like combining him with Flash the cheetah.

Hell, the cheetath just plain rocks in general! Fast movement speed for the win!

When you collect thre 3 medals you got a HolyFire sword. Nice!

Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz is in this game, and apparently this game takes place in Future Oz. Interesting.

I love how this game makes it very clear that you are killing the enemies in this game. Aw the Genesis, for your time, you were the system with guts!

I give this game an arbitrary score of 8 out of 10!

This game story very much asks the question of what if in FF6 peace between the humans and monsters were possible. That, along with a lot of great moments in this game.

Oh, and the music is pretty sweet too!

Oh, and I'm counting this as one of the 7-12 hour games because of the average time. Like I said, doing 3 1-6 hour games, and at least 2 7-12 hour experiences, and 1 weekend experience where I trying beat a 13-20 hour game in 2 days. It's working out great so far

Shadowrun (Genesis)

Average Time Completed: Around 18 hours

My target time: around 13 hours(I'm about 5 hours in now, and I'm almost done, so I'll probably beat that)

Friend of mine talked me into giving this game just one more shot instead of replaying the SNES game for the zillionth time, and to try as a Gator Shaman.

First of all, I wanna say this game's got a great soundtrack, which is a really good thing because there's so many games on the Genesis that sound is NES quality. (meh) Seriously, even if you don't think it's great, you gotta admit that it's different in a good way.

ALso, full disclusure, I sped up the game to cut down on a LOT of traveling time. Even with it dear god do you do spend a lot of time just walking around to your next location.

Anyways, this story, like Shadowrun Returns: Dead Man's Switch and Shadowrun: Dragonfall is a tale of vengeance. Your brother and his runners were shot down, and so you spent the last of your nuyun(cash) to head to Washington State to seek revenge.

You head to the hotel he was staying at, and the dwarven inkeeper tells you he'll give you his stuff if you pay his rent, which ends up being 250 nuyun so you go around doing a bunch of shadowruns(ie: mercenary work) to earn it. You get a cyberdeck, a wristband which makes it so if you die you only lose 10% of your nuyun, a couple contacts, and 500 nuyun! Oh irony! :D

when you stay at the hotel the game mentions that some soykaf would hit the spot right now. It's nice how I've played the first 2 shadowrun returns games and now know what the fuck soykaf is. It's artificial coffe!

After doing several missions I went to Seattle, and went to talk to one of the contacts, who said that your brother, Michael was a friend of hers, and Stark, a man you're looking for was his best friend.

I went to Renraku Arcology, and picked up an elf decker as a friend recommended, and bought him some upgrades. Made a good bit of cash out of it. Talked to a Mr. Johnson(person that offers merc work) and got a corporation contact, wj I then talked to and got some electronic lockpicks.

Did some more cyberspace and bought some better spells.

Finally did a Matrix(cyberspace) mission, and a run to get one corp wage slave to another corp where he can be another corporate wage slave(it is a cyberpunk dystopia where corporations run the world after all)

"Slott off, frag-face!"

After way too many repetitive runs, I made it to Tabatha, one of the runners that was with Michael. Asked her to join me, but she said that there's no way, as she's afraid of getting caught in what killed Michael. As of on cue, a bomb goes off, but a holopix(not sure what that is) remained, with a contact from the native american lands. After talking to several people for information on him, and doing more random runs(man is it annoying grinding in this game!) I advanced the plot further and talked to a Johnson named Caleb, who said that he found out about Michaels run from from someone named Frosty, who likely found out from someone else, and so on.

I finally made it to the native american camp, who said he'd give me ANOTHER CONTACT if I find his brother Aragorn. I found him and brought him back. Turns out that the Native American had Stark with him, and they're barely keeping him alive, so I went back to civilization, and talked to a doctor who said that she can help me witha cyber heart, I just have to break into the fuchi building and find it.

I found is and gave it to the good doctor, whose response was to make out with me.(Ok, well hey, I'm not complaining! :D ) She did the surjury, healing stark. Then Stark left without talking to me, saying he had too much to do, but he can be found in the barrens, I found him, and he joined my team for free, wanting vengeance himself. Nice!

I went into Lone Star, looking for Aragorn again for information. I found him, and he ran off. I went back to the native american land, and Aragorn was back, I was then told to talk to their head shaman. He then told me he needed something from a gargoyle, a hell hound, and and feathered serpent. I killed a gargoyle, and a hell hound, but The last had to be given up willingly. So I found a dragon who was fighting renraku. I killed renraku, and he gave me a scale, and told me that he sensed that I face many trials, one of which I liekly won't survive, so I may call on him when a situation is most dire.

I then got a sega genesis era cutscene where I'm told that a vile creature named Thon killed my brother, and he must be stopped or the world will be in peril and etc. Bleh!

I met up with a Renraku contact, who turned otut t be an ex renraku, as renraku soldiers attacked my party and him. Lying in a pool of his own blood, he told me that Renraku didn't want my brothers team dead, but to observe him, and they have no idea who Thon is. I went to another bar to talk to another contact who tried to attack me, but then Rekanur attacked up both. got another cutscen where I got a holopix showing my brother and Stark.

I eventually made it to the Renraku building, and found a safe with the first of two parts of a map.

I took a chopper to this sinsith or something place, where tribal elves live, and their leader gave me another mission, can't remember what. Then after I did that she asked me to find one of her own, who turnedout to be in Hollywood Correctional Facilities. I paid someone for fake predentials and badges, and went in a saved them.

Anyways, decided to take a break from this game and post it while people are still awake.

Shadowrun (Genesis)

Average Time Completed:
Around 18 hours

My target time: around 13 hours

My time: Around 6 hours.

So it turns out that Michael and his runners were actually on a mission to take out Thon, but they were ambushed. Nice to know that Frosty isn't evil.

Anyways, I went to go face Thon, the last boss, and it was kinda eh. The Dragon showed up again to save me at the end, and there was sequel bait to something that never happened. Shame

All that said, I give this game an arbitrary score of 5 out of 10. Yeah, this had a couple good moments, but I spent half my time with it was just grinding for karma and nuyun. It got really old.

Oh, and the main quest part was only around 3 hours? Come on! The main reason I stuck through this for so long is because It's a Shadowrun game, and I've wanted to finish it for so long.

This really was not worth my time. Hell, the only 3 really memorable thing about this game are the intro, how cool the matrix looks, and the doctor making out with you.

Ok, so the first week was sort of a warm up with a big focus on the SNES and Genesis. This week the plan at the very least is to mostly focus on the the PS1 and PS2, hopefully with a ton of horror games! Again i wanna stress though that that's the plan, but plans might change. I change my mind a LOT! I do however hope I can resist the desire to go the easy way out and fill up on SNES junk food, because as much as I love it, I don't give the PS1 and PS2 nearly enough of the attention that they desperately deserve! To me this they were the true classic horror eras!

Clock Tower 3

Average Time Completed: around 7 hours

My Time: Around 7 hours

Been wanting to play this again for years!

First of all, this needs to be said. This game's got really good voice campy voice acting. Campy in the way where your still drawn in and it's scary regardless it that is. The game really nails it with the atmosphere too, both with the music and sound effects, as well as the . You can really tell that this is from the same company that made the Silent Hill series.

Ah Silent Hill, I remember when you were great. Silent Hill 2, you're one of the best things ever made in all of fiction!

Anyways, in this you play a 15 year old British girl who has been summoned to an old mansion by her mother after she sent her to hide from something. She arrives looking for her mother, when an old man appears and tells her that her mother is dead and shes all alone now.

She ends up going through time or something, it's not really made clear, and she has to run away from and eventually face and kill several psychopaths from the past.

The first psychopath is an monsterous old man with a very Raspy voice.

"I killed her...Aylssa!"

BTW, man that clock ticking sound when you're saving your game! Totally gives me the chills!

"Alyssa! Alyssa, where are you?" so chilling!

Anyways, I like the way that this game works. Enemies don't kill you by draining your life force. Instead they kill you by scaring your into a heart attack. It's such a cool idea and it's pulled off so well in this game that makes the game really intense!

First boss battle! Your bottle which you use to throw Holy Water to stun your psychpath asssailants becomes a Holy bow with holy arrows. These are the best parts of the game, as it's the payoff of the the entire experience. I killed the first boss, and the little gilr that's a piano player that the psychopath killed and gave her her fathers pendant, and told her her father was killed in the war, but she should play in his memory or something. her father came back, them both given peace, as they thank Alyssa. How heartwarming!

After this Alyssa's love interest, Dennis(who looks a lot like Ron from Harry Potter) shows up and gives you a key to your gramps room. You find a book that says that sometimes psychopaths after they die become undead, called Entities and continue to kill, taking their souls to gather powers, and for centuries, teenage girls have been called to fight them, called Rooders. Kinda like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I like it!

Eventually you find yourself back in the past, and a blind man crying bloody tears finds you, just as scared of you as you are of him, searching for his mother. Then you find his mother and the whole house has a massive earthquakes, it's all caused by a mysterious ghost psychopath that's chasing you. who apparantly killed its villains with Acid. Weird, it didn't seem to attack you with acid, it mostly just tried to grab at you.

I'll post more later.

I found another note which explains things a little better abour Entities and Rooders, how their power to fight entities is the strongest at 15, and their powers slowly weaken after and eventually vanish at 20. Gee thanks Japan! That said, it does explain why the only way you can be killed is a heart attack.

Finally the real psychopath appears, wearing a steampunk outfit, and he indeed does kill with acid! He killed the 2 people I mentioned a bit ago, and chased me around. Eventually I electrocuted him, stunning him and I took off.

Oh and when you stun him with Holy water he goes "aaah! Hot! Hot hot! Hot! Hot! Hot!" So badass!

Finally I got the the judgement part where I got to fight him. Had some trouble lining up my shots at first, but eventually I obliterated him! I thought about how this was probably gonna be my favorite boss!

Your gramps shows up again. Creepy clock save screen, then your gramps sends you through a tornado!

You end up on a Clock tower, and your gramps shows up and says that soon it'll be your 15th birthday, and he and you will soon be joined together and become immortal in the dark world. Seriously Japan?!!! He then throws you into hell where you can find your mother.

You end up in another area, and eventually meet up with a creature that can stick to walls that sual wield axes, and kind looks like a skinnier version of kratos. Ok then...

Oh, and when you throw holy water on him he gets stuck in a whirlwind. Eventually you find a furnace and hit him with fire, stunning him.

Alyssa found herself back to the time when he was a baby. Her grandfather killed her dad, because he found him to be a coward. Skinnier Kratos appeared, and I had to use the Holy arrows to shoot his axes that he threw back at me. Nice! He ended up surviving.

Anyways, the ghost moaning int he graveyward got really old and took me out of the experience, I just wanted it to be over. eventually I heard a "you can't get away" and sure enough it was Kratos!

Found a note which told me this Entities story. He was born disfigured, and after being refused marriage by an innkeepers daughte her went around killing young woman in different villages. He was hung, but he became an entity, head of the Subordinates.

A plot twist is revealed. Someone wants to take the heart of a 15 year old Rooder, and drink her blood, turning them into an immortal entity.

I defeated the entity, and Gramps shows up, telling Alyssa that what she denies is indeed the truth.

Dennis shows up again, they're back in the mansion, and Dennis telling Alyssa he's her friend, and he'll be there for me. Aw, so sweet!

Dennis's sister shows up, and of course it turns out to be another entity.

That rest of of game kinda dragged to be honest. And they kept repeating what you already knew,. and passed them off as plot twists. Yes, your grandpa is a sick fuck who wants to be with your forever by joining with you via drinking your hearts blood and becoming an immrtal entity. How many times do you have to repeat that?

Honestly, I give this game an arbitrary score of 4 out of 10. Most of it was really fun, but then the last 2 or so hours ruined it. Like I said, they just kept reminding you of the same plot point over and over and over. It's a shame because this could have been one of my faves.

Oh, and this needs to be said. Your Gramps is the most prominent character in the game besides yourselves, and he never talks to you. He talks AT you! It's so annoying!

Ah well, at least the ending credits theme is pretty nice. That's certainly more than Castlevania: Symphony of the Night can say.

*Hours later*

You know, I thought about it a bit. Yeah, the game might have repeated the same thing over and over for the last 2 hours, and it's a really gross thing, but the game doesn't pass it off as anything other than gross, and we're supposed to hate Gramps. Plus while he only talks AT you, it kinda makes sense for his character. That and I'll take the game repeating the same thing over no dialogue at all. So yeah, the last 2 hours weren't as bad as I made it out to be, and the the first 2/3 of the game were great.

I'm changing my arbitrary score to 7 out of 10. It's a good game.

Up tomorrow: Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Average Time Completed: About 9 Hours

My Target Time: About 7 hours

My Time: about 5 hours.

First of all, played this on Luck mode, where you name yourself something which I can't remember offhand, and you start with high luck, and low everything else. It's awesome!

Anyways, I wanna start off by saying that this game really nails its soundtrack better than in just about any game. This series almost always knocks it out of the park with its soundtrack, but this game really nailed it. It's my main complaint with Bloodstained. That and it's just not very satisfying to kill your enemies.

I did what I usually do, and kill the big powerful armored enemy that you fight before you fight your doppleganger, and found the mirror cuirass, and jewel knuckles, which makes a lot of the game a lot easier because the jewel knuckles are so damn fast! Killed the doppleganger in one hit with it.

I also wanna mention that I love how you can save so much time by back dashing through the entire game, which is pretty badass!

Something that still affects me to this day is the Owl Knight. It's well...a knight enemy that has an owl companion, you kill its owl, and it kneels down at it, and I can't help but think about how this shows that it might be the one enemy in the entire game that isn't just a mindless slave, and has compassion for someone besides Dracula. It's quite sad.

The Faerie companion is my favorite "party member." I never use items on my own enough, and she makes this game so much easier!

"Resuscitation!"

Damn, playing this makes me wanna go play the GBA games now. Gaming gods, deliver me from temptation!

Decided to change to the shield rod instead of the jewel knuckles. Remembered some of the cool shit you can do with it.

And then I got the holy sword and thought "this thing's pretty powerful too, so why not?"

Ah, memories of staying at the beginning of the castle, and fighting those sea monsters and grinding on em!

Man the shield rod and iron shield kick ass together!

Ah the joys of knocking the librarian in the air, and stealing his ring of acara!

Ah the Nightmare Succubus. Forgot about her.

And yeah, need a break from this, I'll say more later.

And now for another game that I've been wanting to get to for over a decade.

Beyond Good and Evil

Average Time Completed: 11 hours

My Target Time: 9 hours

My Time: 8 Hours

Starts off with A newscast where a mining planet where I assume the game takes place is at war with...some invader.

Then it jumps to Jade, the main character, and Ben. The invaders are bombing the her home, where she apparently lives with a lot of human/animal hybrids.

Ive given control, and fight off these weird skeleton things and save my friends, but I'm pushed underground, where this weird thing says something that I can't understand, but then my piggy friend throws me my staff or whatever my weapon is, and I'm able to kill it.

Great music by the way! Wonderful aesthetics too!

The Government shows up to "help" and by that I mean take credit for Jade and Piggy saving everyone. Piggy calls the newscast on their bullshit, and they take off.

Jade gets a message from a hologram that they want pictures from all the species on the planet, and they'll pay for them, which means that they can pay for power, and defend their home, so I went around and took a bunch of pics.

Jade's then offered a mission, being told if she chooses to accept it to head to the top of a nearby island.

We made it to the Isle after needing repairs, and we're told that we need to discover the truth about...something, and they want a picture of these 2 creatures, they'll pay well.

I keep moving forward, and Piggy lets me know that he's invented hoverboots. Nice!

Gotta say that for all the hype about how awesome Jade supposedly is, I'm not really impressed by her so far. She barely says anything. It's your Piggy companion that's stealing the show! He's both funny, insightful, and all around very lovable. Jade on the other hand hasn't said one thing of note.

So I came across the creature I needed to take a picture of, which turned out to be this big, ugly boss. He wasn't hard as much as he was repetitive. Meh

The person that wanted me to take the picture showed up and told me the truth. The Government isn't actually saving people as much as it's secretly capturing people. He works for an organization that wants to expose the truth, and he asks Jade to join them.

Oh, and Jade did talk a bit more, but it was exposition, so yeah...

Went to the bar I was told to go to. They told me that there's this place that some of their agents have been investigating, none have returned. I need to go there and take pictures, finding proof that the government has been taking their victims there.

You know that music that I said was great? Well sadly you don't really seem to hear much music when you're out of cutscenes.

Headed to the area, and saved the Double H, the most recent agent that was captured. He thanked me, saying that he was 10 minutes away from having his brain melted.

Finally Jade says something that wasn't just exposition when she saves Piggy.

"Thanks Jade, if it weren't for you I would have ended up on a silver platter with an apple in my mouth!"
"Aw...now you're making me hungry. Shut up Pey'J, you're making me regret saving you."

Piggy gets captured by the government, and all I can think is "No...don't leave me with Jade!

Jade finds out that she can get off the planet with a spaceship if she finds codes or something. Fair enough.

And yeah, a bunch of stuff happened that I didn't understand. All I know is that I need to save Piggy.

Ok, gonna take a break. Honestly though, this is not really impressing me all that much. It's mostly decent with...hell, there hasn't even been any great moments. Mostly I just kinda find it confusing.

Ok, I had some stuff typed up, but honestly, it was a waste, lemme just give my final thoughts.

Seriously, this is the greatest female protagonist ever? She doesn't have one noteworthy moment the entire game. Everything that's good about this game is about someone else.

I give this game an arbitrary score of 3 out of 10. It's one of the worst games I've played all year, if not the worst game I've played all year. It's certainly the most disappointing! Combat is fun, Pey'J the Piggy is is great, but Jade is a bunch of nothing! And no, I'm not gonna change my score hours after I type this up like I did with Clock Tower 3! Fuck this game!

Doom 2 (PC)

Another game I've wanted to play for years.

I chose this game because after Beyond Good and Evil, I needed something that I knew wouldn't dissapoint me, but I haven't played before, and I wanted some action. Was talking about how much of a dissapointment BG&E was, and someone mentioned this, and I thought about there's no way I couldn't enjoy this when I'm in the mood for some fun, mindless, intense action.

For those that love the classic Doom series, I'm playing with GZDoom, and I gave myself the ability to jump.

For the first few levels I used the shotgun and chaingun. Love them so much, and I usually use them until I got enough ammo for...whatever the laser rifle is called.

Got through the first "story segment" and I got a lot of cells for the Laser Rifle and so many rockets. Feeling unstoppable!

Wow Man, Doom 2 is basically doom 1 with bigger levels, better graphics, and more enemies!

Anyways, don't have much to say, but this felt like the most fun game in the world. It was fucking awesome!

I give this game an arbitrary score of 10 out of 10! This is one of the most pure fun games I've ever played!

Still on a retro FPS kick, I decided to do a little overtime...

Half-Life(1)

Dear god does this game nail atmosphere, what an amazing opening!

And yeah, forgot how hard the original Half-Life is. got sick of the fact that if anything hits you at all you lose like 1/5 of your health, and moved on with my life. It's a great game, but even on easy the game is waaaaaaay too hard for me. Ah well.

Metal Gear Solid 3(PS2)

We end PS1 and PS2 Week with YET ANOTHER game that I've always wanted to play!

So apparantly this is set after The Cold War.

The way that the intro story was set up is too hard to explain, I do like it though. I know that I'm in Russia trying to rescue a scientist named Solokov, man who defected in The Cold War to the US.

So this is where the main character is called Snake of the first time. Well it is a prequel!

Man is this game tutorial heavy. Which for me I always welcome, however I can't help but think about my pal @Cloudslash would be driven crazy by it.

Man, Snake is so different from who he is in MGS1 and 4.

Found the facility where Sokolov is said to be held. Found him, and some more story was said that I don't really get. Yeah, definately am gonna have to replay this sometime so I can understand things better.

Cool cutscene where I got caught, and then Major Ocelot showed up, and killed the guards. But he wasn't here to save me, that's for sure. Snake took out Ocelot and his soldiers in CQC, but as far as I can tell didn't kill any of em, and told Ocelot that he's impressed, and he gives him some advice. he's not suited for automatics, and he should switch to revolvers.

Snake and Sokolov talk a bit, saying that without Sokolov, there will be another world war.

The Boss, the one that trained Snake shows up while crossing a bridge. She takes Sokolov, and is defecting to the Soviet Union. Snake and The Boss fight, Snake is too shocked by this all to fight properly, and The Boss throws Snake off the bridge. I survive, and am given a tutorial on how to heal myself.

"Jack, you can't come with us!"
"The new blood has been rejected..."

This game is trying to make me like Ocelot, I was starting to until I remembered that he's a sexual assaulter, so I really just want him to die horribly.

Man that James Bond like song Snake Eater is so cool!

So Snake is framed for hitting a science facility with a nuclear missile, and I need to prove myself by taking out The Boss.

"Understood. Commencing Operation Snake Eater."

The Boss shows up. She doesn't want to kill Snake, and she kicks his ass, and blows up his plane he landed on to make it look he was killed to her men.

Boss: I'm not your boss anymore. There's nothing for you here. Go home. Go
back to your boss. (draws Patriot machine gun) There's no need to prove that
you are virtuous here. This isn't America.

(The Boss fires on the wreckage of Snake's landing pod, causing it to explode)

Boss: That should stir things up a bit. You'd better hurry. (it begins to
rain) The Border is 60 miles south of here. You ought to be able to run that
far.

Snake: Why'd you defect?

Boss: I didn't. I'm loyal... to the "end." To my purpose. What about you,
Jack? What's it going to be? Loyalty to your country, or loyalty to me? Your
country, or your mentor? Your mission, or your beliefs? Your duty to your
unit? Or your personal feelings? You don't know the truth yet. But sooner or
later, you'll have to choose. I don't expect you to forgive me. But you can't
defeat me, either. You know me too well. Just look at that bandanna. If you
can't put the past behind you, you won't survive long. If we meet again, I'll
kill you.

(the horse rears up and stomps Snake's hand)

Boss: Now, go home!

Ok, this seems like a good spot to take a break. I have a feeling that is gonna be a GOOD, LONG game that's gonna take me a lot longer than the Genesis Shadowrun. Here's hoping it continues to not waste my time.

Metal Gear Solid 3(PS2)

The way the "romantic interest" Eva was introduced Totally made me think of a Bond girl. And of course she walks around with her top open and black Bikini Top...because of course she does. So Hideo Kajimi! Such a japanese game. And god, she's such a tease, I love it!

This is also such a PS2 era Japanese game where the cutscenes look several times better than when you're in a dialogue scene, and

Eva kisses Snake and says "don't go dying on me now." Cute!

Big points for making Eva not a damsel, and only making you and Ocelot THINK she's a damsel.

Love seeing Snake give Ocelot all this advice!

Oh, and this conversation like several scenes in this game confused me, but this one I really desire t undertand. Can anyone explain it to me please?

(while traveling through Chynoryj Prud, Eva calls Snake)

Eva: Snake, are you there?

Snake: Eva?

Eva: Did you miss me?

Snake: Did you make it without any trouble?

Eva: No one saw me.

Snake: So you're back with Volgin?

Eva: In a matter of speaking.

Snake: What about The Boss?

Eva: Yeah, she's here too.

Snake: Better be careful.

Eva: Thanks, I will. The Boss and I get along pretty well, though. I guess we
traitors have a lot in common.

Snake: Why would anyone want to defect? Betraying your country like... I... I
just don't get it.

Eva: Are you talking about The Boss?

Snake: Why'd you do it? Weren't you born and raised in America?

Eva: Yes, in a small rural town. I never even knew there were other countries,
other cultures, other ways of thinking. Until I went to work for the NSA.
Then, one day, I'd found I'd lost faith in the things I'd been taking for
granted.

Snake: What did you see? What was it that made you want to change sides?

Eva: You wouldn't believe me if I told you.

Snake: Try me.

Eva: I saw the universe.

Snake: The universe?

Eva: Not the actual universe. The universe as the intelligence community sees
it. I realized that the gravity in this universe was holding me back. That's
all. People and their countries are both changed by the environment. And by
the times.

Snake: That sounds like what The Boss was saying.

Eva: There's a world of difference between this country and America. But it's
only a difference of position. A difference of perspective. Coming here made
me realize something. Half of what I'd been told was a complete and utter
lie... the other half was a conveniently constructed lie.

Snake: Where's the truth then?

Eva: It's hidden in the lies.

Snake: Are you lying, too?

Eva: Who knows? I've been trained to make even the most severe falsehood sound
like the honest truth. Weren't you?

Snake: No. I... believe because I have to. Even if it is a lie. That's part of
my mission.

Eva: I'll have to remember that. If you need to give me a call on the radio,
my frequency is 142.52. See ya.

Metal Gear Solid 3(PS2)

Finally a boss battle. Kicking Ocelots ass was satisfying!

Wow...second boss battle already? It's with The Pain, aka the Bee-Man It was pretty fun as well.

"There's no such thing as luck on the battlefield."

Hmm, so there's this old man in a wheelchair who seems comatose, but The Boss says he'll wake up when the time is right.

Met an old man who told me that they're gonna build Metal Gear. The very first one apparently. Snake complimented his shoes, so he decided to help me. Can't remember how.

Another boss Fight. The Fear. He poisoned me, but I broke free. Stunned The Fear, then bumped him full of LEAD! :D

So the old man in a wheelchair is an expert sniper. Well that's different.

Wow, another boss fight already? The End, aka the old man that was in a wheelchair.

Was cool hearing Snake Eater again, Acopella style as I climbed up this very long ladder.

So Eva's got a bunch of scars, mostly made by the sadist Colonel.

Again, Eva is such tease, I love it!

Aw..Eva trying to kiss a Snake who is pretending to be uninterested. So cute!

"The Fear, and the End have Fallen."

BTW, not sure who Eva is disguised as. Is she The Boss?

Another boss fight. The Fury, a man with a flamethrower. He was intense, especially with his soul at the end coming after Snake!

Oh, I was wrong, Solokov is alive, good.

Oh, so Eva is Tatyana, who is Volgin's lover. Solokov. Solokovs wife and children are in the US, under CIA protection. Solokov is sick of living, he feels screwed because even if he goes to america, he'll just be making more nuclear weapons. He's a weapon scientist after all. It's quite sad.

Wow, so The Colonel interrogated Snake in a way that revealed a lot about his own plans. Oh god! :D And Jesus, Eva shot out one of Snakes eyes!

Another boss fight. The Sorrow. He showed me a bunch of illusions of all the bosses that I've killed so far. And apparently he was a ghost.

Finally Snake and Eva make out. It was cute, and then there was was this scene with shadows that looked like Snake and Eva were having sex. She actually removed a transmitter from his body.

Ok, need a break from this again.

Metal Gear Solid 3(PS2)

Wow, so The Colonel wants to unite the world under one country. Interesting.

Snake and Eva were caught, and The Boss whispered something to Eva that suggested she's actually on your side. Interesting.

Boss fight with Volgin...with Ocelots help?

"Fight like a man, Volgin!"

Finally Volgin shows up in Metal Gear! Metal Gear Shagohod!

Man, that Metal Gear fight was so cool!

Damn that escape scene, and then Eva gets super injured.

Whew! Have enough supplies to heal Eva!

And I finished the game. Damn that ending! Poor The Boss.

I give this game an arbitrary score of 10 out of 10. Easily the best game I've played on this project, and one of the best games I've ever played! This truly does deserve the mad amount of love it constantly gets!

I did it! I beat Metal Gear Solid 2 in TWO DAYS!

Deliver Us The Moon

Finally went through a game last night, out of my gaming funk at least, but not my novel rut.

It's very much a very atmospheric sci-fi "walking simulator" with a puzzles. Very dark story that's very reminiscent of Dead Space. The best things about it are the atmosphere and accomplishing things without running out of air.

All I needed was Just needed something with good audio that I could lose myself in for a bit.

So I Finally got over the fact that you spend most of the game reviving the ghostbusters to play this game, just in time for the remaster too!

Yeah, the first 2 hours were great, but you take away the parts where the ghostbusters aren't talking, and it's completely forgettable. Also, all the ghosts that weren't from the movies were completely forgettable.
