The inherent problem with Kofi is that he's not a main event level performer. No matter how you slice it, he's a solid worker but nothing inherently special and his career was basically a midcard act through and through. None of his individual singles title reigns were worth a damn and his best run was as part of a faction. So Kofimania was a great moment but had no long term staying power because Kofi simply isn't good enough, and the lackluster matches afterwards kind of prove that. Like storyline can be blamed on WWE but you can't blame them for getting him decent workers and having pretty lousy matches with them.

So it ending with such finality is much appreciated. Letting him hang around in a Lesnar vs Styles/Bryan/Balor style way would keep the untrue narrative up of "Kofi Kingston: Main Eventer" and I just don't really see the point. I'd rather New Day look now to elevate either Big E or Xavier to a similar run now that Kofi's gotten his golden watch, and not stretch out Kofi's main event run.

No I get it, I just wanted him to get his moment and have it be done, but there's no excuse for the way they made that match happen. F-5 and then done. Indefensible.

I'm so glad I don't watch that company anymore and I doubt I ever will. Jeesh.

In comparison of AEW and NXT, I have higher hopes for AEW. I've been waiting to post my thoughts, but here they are:

NXT put on a slapdash Takeover sans title changes. What was weird was the energy. Takeovers aren't built for two hours (really, 90 minutes), and the energy sank as the show went on. Each match lost the momentum of the opening match. I would have put a cruiserweight match at the start, although trying to grab as many eyes as possible was important.

Riddle is the absolute superstar on this roster. Cole did an admirable job, but it felt like Riddle stole the screen with every action. No one else measured up.

Wale really hurt the Street Profits. His hastily cobbled together rap was forced, went too long, was really just one line repeated over and over, and it felt uncomfortable and awkward. I found this to be one of the least interesting Street Profits matches in a while.

Big returns of Balor and Ciampa are exciting... but I would have at least saved one until next week. Burning them both in the same episode was not smart if you plan to actually contend with AEW for months or even years. Play a longer game.

On the AEW side, the tag is the thing. The Bucks and Omega were phenomenal, LAX did a great job, and Jericho running a gang of heels should be a good way to fill storyline time and prevent him from being overexposed. In terms of negatives, I think having a guy come out in a panda head in your first match looks pretty ridiculous. AEW needed a much more eye-popping opening match. Personally, I would have thrown in Darby Allin against Cody again, or at least open with PAC and Page and give them more back and forth.

Schiavone is super-underrated here. Great asset. The on-ramp interview was a great throwback to Nitro. Having the crowd react to these types of segments always makes them pop a bit more. To me, the first episode of Dynamite felt like a sample of regular weekly television, while NXT felt like a "pull out all the stops" desperation move. And when you feel desperation, you almost recoil a bit.

Overall, NXT had a better episode on Wednesday, but longterm, I still have more excitement for AEW,

Yeah Lesnar's been back like the best part of a decade, and it's only really the last three(?) years he's gone with the short matches, I think. The majority of his PPV matches (so not counting, like, Beast in the East) at least up until the second Taker feud were reasonably lengthy. I think the first time I noticed a Lesnar match being really short was the Orton match at Summerslam 2016.

It's hard to really think Brock squashing Kofi was smart when the purpose is to lateral into a feud with Tito, to me. Kinda makes WWE feel cheap when you're just using it as a vehicle for washed up MMA guys.

And I feel like Kofi had some potential for good matches he just wasn't given the right guys/match structures for it. The problem is that Kofi at his best is playing as the underdog. Despite building him as that to an extent he only really had that feel vs Bryan (and Brock, but lol that match)-- all the rest was sort of on a meta level and wasn't really how the feuds were run. Some more self-awareness of Kofi being out of his depth would have helped a lot. Like to me it felt like a WWE selling you something John Cena type underdog "wow how will he overcome these odds!!" more than a legit underdog for all but the beginning and the end of his run.

Case in point the Orton feud they kept calling back to 2008 when young pup Kofi beat him up which really hurts the idea that Kofi is not on Orton's level, even if he really shouldn't be. It's funny to think that WWE acknowledging history was a mistake but I feel it was that time, and a big one at that.

What I'm curious about is how Survivor Series goes down if it uses the same format as previous ppvs. Cause right now we'd have...

Lesnar vs Rollins
Styles vs Nakamura
Becky vs Bayley
Roode/Ziggler vs Revival

Of course a lot can change, and the idea of Wyatt fucking with Lesnar is hilarious for both the right and wrong reasons

Seth vs Fiend is a tough one no matter what happens. You get one of three finishes...

- Seth wins and cuts The Fiend's momentum in what would only be his second match since returning
- The Fiend wins and Seth Rollins looks bad despite beating Lesnar twice this year
- A bullshit no contest due to interference like last year's Hell in a Cell

I still had slight hope in the Fiend angle since it was something they had actually been doing well (on the Fiend end, atleast) and wanted to see if they'd ruin it

They literally just had a Hell in a Cell match end in a disqualification to protect both

The story was Rollins couldn't keep Fiend down

He hit like a million finishers and Fiend kept kicking out at 1

He hit him with like a million weapons and Fiend kept kicking out at 2

So Rollins gets a sledgehammer and the ref is suddenly like "DON'T DO THIS MAN THINK OF THE KIDS DON'T RUIN YOUR LIFE MAN"

And Rollins hits Fiend (under a pile of weapons) with it anyway

So the ref disqualifies him

In a Hell in a Cell

And then Fiend gets up and kicks Rollins's ass anyway and it just ends exactly like the Raw segment did.

You dont get humor out of it?

Seth hit somewhere between 15-20 finishers. Not an exaggeration. Fiend wont stay down. Seth hits him with a chair headshot. Fiend wont stay down.

Seth grabs the sledgehammer. Has a moral crisis. Ref tries to talk him out of it. Seth cries and hits Bray in the head with it.

Ref calls for the bell. Fiend then gets up and destroys Rollins anyway. Fake blood pouring out of Rollins mouth. PPV goes off the air to a chorus of boos.

The entire match was lit in Virtual Boy Red

Bray overpowered Seth to the point of desperation

Bray ate 10+ stomps and Pedigree and kicked out at 1 every time

Seth did a headshot with a chair, then piled on everything under the ring on top of bray, got up to a 2 count

Pulled the sledgehammer and had a moral dilemma with a ref

Eventually pulled the trigger on the sledgehammer swinging it like an actual hammer on top of Bray

Ref stopped the match

Stretcher crew comes out to help Bray

Bray immediately gets up and mandible claws Seth and murders him outside the ring too leaving him in a pool of his own blood

end PPV

This seems like a good time to remind everyone that there is SO MUCH wrestling out there that can suit any taste. Everyone knows about NJPW and Impact and AEW.

Then you've got Dragon Gate, the fastest-paced action on the planet with a heavy focus on stables and where every result in every match has long-term implications, with a little bit of comedy thrown in on every show.

You have DDT, which is a ton of comedy with occasional massive supercards that feature incredible matches.

You like women's wrestling? Let me introduce you to Joshi! Ice Ribbon, STARDOM, SEAdLINNNG! Women beating the absolute hell out of each other! Too exotic for you? Check out SHIMMER or Pro Wrestling EVE.

Did you know Beyond Wrestling has a weekly show? It's called Uncharted Territory and it's very consistently good, especially if you're into the whole intergender thing.

How's your Spanish? Do you like high-flying and wild brawls? Lucha could be right for you!

Don't have a ton of time to commit to wrestling these days? No problem! Watch Wrestle-1 or AJPW, where you can pretty much just watch the top-billed matches on their bigger shows and not feel like you're missing anything important... because you're not!

Do you like over-the-top storylines and gimmicks and characters and possibly comic books! Maybe you'll enjoy CHIKARA, too! I don't know, I don't watch it!

Imagine if The Undertaker/Mankind '98 ended in Taker geting disqualified because he dropped Mankind into the thumbtacks.

Or if the six-man HIAC in 2000 ended in a no contest when Taker threw Rikishi off the top of the cell.

Like, we've long since established that HIAC matches are no DQ with weapons being legal. Yet because they didn't have the balls to go all the way with Wyatt winning the title or being pinned at this stage, they booked themselves into a corner and the result is "we can't make a decisive decision on this match so we're bailing out by bending the rules in our favour". Fuck that, either go all in on The Fiend and have him torment the entire RAW roster until someone steps up at Mania or make Rollins look legit by decisively pinning him (yes, this hurts Wyatt's momentum, but the finish we got hurt both Rollins and Wyatt AS WELL AS make the WWE look stupid and uncool). Even having Wyatt lose due to the Demon Balor interfering would've be alright since you have an out for Wyatt who can gain back momentum by beating Balor next month (because let's be honest, they're really not making the most out of the Demon gimmick so might as well stop protecting it).

Instead, we got more of the same from Bray Wyatt. While everyone was excited for the Fiend, I was in "believe it when I see it" mode. Because anything long term that guy has been involved in since 2013 has went to shit. The inital Wyatt Family run where he got fed to Cena and looked like an idiot when Bryan turned on him two weeks after joining, everything to do with Ambrose in late 2014, not going anywhere while Strowman was with him, his WWE championship run being wasted with Orton and the House of Horrors crap, His alliance with Woken Matt lasting only a few months before losing the belts to a bottom tier tag team act (Sorry to anyone who likes Dallas/Axel, but they've been treaten as absolute losers for 5 years, so losing to someone on that level makes you look trash). Why should I think the Mr. Rogers/Jason Vorhees hybrid act is going to suddenly change everything for the guy until WWE can show they can actually make the character work for 6+ months? And already, they showing the signs that this won't be any different.

Bray Wyatt is arguably one of the most overrated acts in WWE and the sooner everyone starts to realise this, the better.
