Whatever $15 an hour gets me a year. I was working part time previous to this so I made like 20k a year.

What kind of car should I look into? Been driving a beater for the last 6 years.

Right on, that's cool man. Congrats, it sounds like a better job. It disturbs me that you were an EMT saving people's lives, and the new job is the one that pays marginally better.

Nice, and by the looks of it, for that pay, the amount of responsibility that comes with being an EMT it definitely does sound like bs

If the beater is still going strong then I say stick with it dude. Try not to fall for the New meme. Only get a new car if you know its something you absolutely want and have been eyeing and been doing extensive research on for ages and plan on driving it right down til it becomes scrap metal.

If you are looking for more modern creature comforts I still say stick with a quality used car

Keep running your car until you get sick of fixing it.
My shitty car has had the suspension and brakes redone, and four goddamn alternators, but it's still cheaper than buying another car.

I find a lot of peoples mentality when the first major services comes to be quite interesting. Where they feel spending the $1000-1500 is too much for a service so they combat it by getting a loan for a new $35,000 so that they dont need to worry about repairs.

(Power steering literally exploded)
"It's going to be $1450 to replace all the parts that blew up."

Okay, do that.

Until a piston rod blows right though the oilpan, and/or the whole damn car catches on fire, may as well keep it going. That's why I keep a bicycle in the back.

Me "Yep"

Dont get anything insanely expensive. Live moderately. Save your money for the future. You dont know what will come, so it is always good to have something saved. Expensive cars, expensive houses, those are money traps. You will find that they just use up all your money. Besides, you might want to retire or have a family one day, save your money.

Get a used Honda or Toyota. For 6-12 Grand you could get one in great shape, pretty new. They are well made, reliable, good on gas. Rarely need anything more than basic maintenance to keep them going.

Then save your money.

But if you really want a specific new car go for it. If you work hard you should be about to buy what you want.

In the past few years I went from making 35 to 60 to 80 to 100k a year. I really wanted a brand new cool car but thought better of it. I live in an area with a high cost of living and wanted to be able to save money so I could do things I enjoy, not throw it all away on one thing that I don't really need. So I found a great deal on a used vehicle and am trying to save up for a house instead
