Producer James Wan and Australian Director Simon McQuoid will begin filming the movie in Australia next week and it will be a HARD R that will feature the gory FATALITIES from the video games as much of that was not done in the original adaptations. The cast got together last week at an Australian bar and made a group shot showing all of them together American Actor, Lewis Tan will play the main character of the movie as he's best known for starring in Into the Badlands and recently Netflix's Wu Assassins. Jean Claude Van Damme was originally meant to play Johnny Cage, but opted instead to star in Street Fighter so that he could be the central protagonist. It wouldn't have taken much alteration to the plot to have accommodated him. That said, it's for the best that Liu Kang was the star. Both star an Asian martial artist out for personal revenge against a mysterious benefactor that owns an island where he holds a world wide martial arts tournament and has a personal enforcer by the name of 'Bolo,' and is the biggest motherfucker there. Said protagonist ends up making acquaintances with an affluent playboy of Caucasian western heritage and a minority. Said affluent playboy wins his fight against the surrogate Goro motherfucker and the fight even ends with a kick to the balls. Later on, Asian protagonist and mysterious benefactor whom is also Asian end up fighting in some elaborate hall of mirrors meant to confuse and disorientate our protagonist (much like Shang Tsung does when he transforms into Kang's younger brother to trick and deceive him).
