Modern BB doesnt really hold a candle to what it used to be. 2-7 are great. 10 is also great.

Yeah, I'd watch 2-8 and 10 for sure. The first nine seasons (BB1 is non-canon, remember) were the best stretch of the show, but 8 is extremely polarizing and 9 is BAD and laid the groundwork for the downturn that started with BB11.

I haven't seen 2 but have heard good things. 3 is great, 4 is decent, 5 is good, 6 is awesome, 7 is godly, 8 is polarizing so you'll either love it or hate it, 9 is horrendous, and 10 is also divine.

BB9 was filler because of the writers strike. BB10 was back to basics because they ran two seasons in a year.

That's also a good point, given the Nemeses twist and Grodner rigging the "AmERICa's Player" vote for Evel Dick. Even so, if you don't take that into account, BB8 isn't bad.

BB9 had the horrible, horrible twist of "everyone is in a showmance" and a poor cast and is when the show started becoming unwatchably bad. That's more what I meant. BB10 was an exception because it was pre-planned to be an organic season, and that's a concept they really need to do again if they want to sustain the show for longer.

It was up against Masked Singer this year. It looks like ABC has finally found a show that will kill Survivor's juggernaut status - and a large part of that was how bad Edge of Extinction was and how Survivor is more about advantage-hunting than it is social strategy now. People are losing interest, and I hope this helps Probst realize that S41 needs to start fresh.

He won't do that though.

i liked the premiere! sandra was great at tribal council, but i am a little worried in how they'll balance all of this in a 1 hour episode.

at least i feel like i got to know a good amount of people from the start, a la david vs goliath, which turned out pretty okay in the end

The more I read about behind the scenes of this season the more I feel that the way last night played out was Chen's doing. Apparently Michie was caught by live feed viewers eating snacks during his Have Not week, and instead of reprimanding him, they just got rid of the Have Nots for the rest of the summer. He was clearly the producer pick to win, and last night Chen probably went "fine, you get your winner, but we're gonna clear some things up first and we're gonna do it before the votes are read." Notice how she kinda snidely said to Michie "You don't look happy. You got your confetti!" or whatever after.

Survivor premiere was good, the twist isn't nearly as cheesy as I thought it was. I would never 1v1 Rob in a fire making challenge without some kind of head start, what the hell was that about? Rob saying you should wait to see what else he's got too was a little strange and unfair. Yes Survivor has wiggle room, but it's usually in extenuating circumstances, not a given.

Agreed with this. My first question would've been if I got a head start. Regardless of his answer, I'd try to negotiate an offer - I'd go through with it if:
1. The idol was extended to three Tribals instead of two
2. I got a minute head start
3. He'd give me Nat Ten's phone number

I think he'd take a liking to me pretty quickly.

Sam told RHAP they removed the Have Nots due to health issues. It was causing severe constipation (and bleeding) after the slop was fried. Kinda weird, not sure what to make of it.

I dont think the main producers wanted him to win. Julie doesnt ask that last question to their pet when hes about to get crowned.

A lot of people have been on this the season was rigged for Jackson train and I dont buy it.

As scummy as he is, the producers favoring him isn't outside the realm of possibility. All the misogyny and racism ("allegedly") aside, look at Jackson on paper. An attractive alpha male who, on the first day, stepped up to take control and take advantage of the camp counselor twist. He got into a showmance, he won a BUNCH of compes after the halfway point, and he pulled stuff like targeting Analyse and Jessica, in order to keep bigger characters in the house a little longer. As problematic as he is, Jackson is EXACTLY the kind of player that production wants to play the game, and after Paul/Paul/Tyler all lost (along with Jason/Ross), I can see them (particularly Grodner, who protected golden boy Jeff in two seasons) wanting him to win more than most of the cast, even fan favorite Nicole.

Grodner is less biased toward getting the winner she wants than Probst is, though.

When her pets lose, she doesn't care as much - she can always bring them back (see Frank and Paul). When one of Jeff's pets loses, he implements a drastic change that further renders Survivor unrecognizable. It started with Terry losing Exile Island changing the FTC to Final 3. The reaction to Aubry losing Kaoh Rong caused the FTC format to change (which was needed at that point, but they need to change it back now). Culpepper losing Lame Changers was the direct causation of the F4 fire-making mandate.

Note how Grodner didn't change the goodbye messages after Paul lost BB19 because of them. Note how she didn't have another "tryst with a jury member" reward like in BB10 for later pets. And note how the BB11 Coup d'Etat never happened again.

I don't think Grodner rigs shit anywhere near as much as she did in BB11, 13, and 14. And I think the biggest reason why is because the fan feedback to all of that was so negative that CBS threatened to fire her if she didn't cut it out. Ergo, I don't think she rigged this for Michie. The late-game competition design might've favored someone like him, which is something that happens regardless (comps favoring a specific skillset), but he had to get to that point on his own. Moves like taking out Sis and Jess helped keep the heat off of him. Grodner loved it and had vested rooting interest, but she didn't outright rig the game for him because doing so could mean her termination.

I don't think the producers truly give a shit about what the fans do or do not like. They want what THEY like, from a TV production standpoint, and I can see Michie being what they like from a television standpoint.

I think it was a combination of that and Ben assuredly losing at F4 if it weren't for that. If a producer's pet were in a better position near the end of HvHvH, they probably would have just went "eh, let's see what happens."

Really faulty logic here. Brad didn't lose because he got voted out at 4, and he didn't lose because someone won immunity at 4. He lost because he hand-picked the wrong people to go to the end with. Jeff even blamed him at the reunion.

I think the producers hate the racism accusations more than anything, and want to avoid that / make a stance more than support his win. Im sure theyd have loved Nicole winning given how the finale was structured with so much emphasis being put on the pre-jury over the jurors.

Maybe Im optimistic but I think therell be some changes made for BB22.
