Yeah, it is weird, but I think part of it is how people vote in contests that have been around for longer because they know what to look for. It's why, when I do Save My RPG, the votals are way lower than SMFFFC or King of the Mountain. I haven't built up a big enough customer base yet.

We'll see if I continue with it in the future, because I don't know if I will yet.

Yesterday's results:
- Samus Aran > Meta Knight, 14-9
- Sonic the Hedgehog > Godot, 13-11
- Maya Fey > Lloyd Irving, 14-7
- Sephiroth > Futaba Sakura, 12-9

Matt Engarde was in an impossible position from the word go. With that lone exception, Ace Attorney characters were 3-0 in reaching the third round and not looking poised to stop their domination. Turns out Sonic is the hero we needed to show that the big 5 Ace Attorney entrants aren't invincible, as his series' strong contest continues.

In other news: Meta Knight held the lead at multiple points in his match with Samus; the two were tied through 18 votes and looking to go down to the wire, until the last 5 votes all went one way. Additionally, Lloyd managed to look weaker than Travis to conclude a poor contest for Tales, while Sephiroth scored a big-ticket win in an attempt to defy his series' general trend this contest.

Phoenix demolished Knuckles even harder than Jill the previous round, even though Knuckles should be stronger than Jill. Considering Knuckles is somewhat of a B8 favorite himself, SFF makes as much sense as any other explanation.

Meanwhile, DK has finished pulling off a great run of upsets, especially considering that proper Mario characters have faltered this contest.

Rough luck for my cohost, MZero, whose two favorite video game characters lost in one day.

On one side, we have Estelle, who seems to have acquired Sora syndrome, comfortably beating Joker even after looking weak against her first two opponents. On the other side, we have Missile, who still hasn't won a match with less than 60% of the vote despite having to score three consecutive upsets. It will certainly be interesting to see what happens when these two B8 favorites face off next round.

For shits and giggles I went through past lists and found that only one character has made the top 10 in all 10 lists, and that is Samus. Additional props to Cloud, Squall, and Link, who all had perfect top 10 attendance in each of the first 8 lists, but dropped out after 2010 once board demographics shifted. Out of further curiosity I tallied the number of times ever character has made the top 10 and here's what we have:

Edgeworth, Bowser, and Luigi also seem surprisingly low to me, and the entire 7-8 group is higher than I would have expected.

These margins are plenty interesting in their own right: Sonic had maybe the best match of his life, in any GameFAQs setting, but will he be able to stand up to a high-tier Ace Attorney character the way Knuckles thoroughly wasn't? On the other side, Sephiroth lost by exactly the same margin as Travis Touchdown two rounds ago: not terribly surprising, but it makes me wonder if Travis had actual strength or if low-vote wonkiness is responsible.

However, there was something more surprising to make note of this time: the strong correlation between votes for each winner / votes for each loser. Specifically, 12/17 Sonic voters also opted for Maya, while 7/11 Samus voters also opted for Sephiroth. At certain points in each match, their blocs looked even more monolithic.

Even if Phoenix has been scoring SFF the last two rounds, he has looked absurdly dominant to this point. He finally faces a character who might contend next round, but I could just as easily see that turning into more SFF.

Also notable: Ike v Kefka II proved to be about as close as their first bout; Kefka cruised early, but Ike ultimately pulled a classic heroic turnabout with the final two votes to go where Mario, Link, and Samus didn't.
