the human voice has pitch, and we change pitch frequently while we talk. there are people who can actually identify the pitches you make when you speak. we literally create melodies while we talk.

there is certainly a grey area when it comes to "is this music or not?" but hip-hop as a style of music, and rapping as a style of singing, are absolutely not in it.

ultimately, "organized sound" is the only definition of music that's sort of all-encompassing, and even that definition isn't perfect

while your overall point is fine, that view of Finnegans Wake is only partly correct. it can be taken as music in word form (in the sense that hearing, say, an F major chord doesn't have an immediate association in the same way that the word "dog" does), but in order to make the words for Finnegans Wake, Joyce combined words from existing languages, thereby giving multiple meanings to each word. For example, the Joyce original word "passencore" is not just nonsense: it refers both to something that has happened and something that is going to happen.

so it's possible, and even pleasurable, to read it just for the sounds of the words, but it's also a super dense text from an analytical standpoint
