INTRODUCTION POST:
First, this ranking is a little different than my first one. There actually a lot of scores for each song this time, though none of them actually matter. This probably won't make much sense, but let's give an example of the format: ==================== IN ORDER: The first number, #301, tells you where the song placed on the finalized rankings. It is the only relevant factor. The second, [#301], tells you where the song placed on the Beta List. After listening to each song twice, I made a quick outline of where I thought each song would place. This beta list turned out to be wildly inaccurate, with multiple songs moving over a hundred placements in every direction. While it's not an important number, it allows you to see how far a song rose or fell from my second impression. [Also: Write-ups were created starting from the bottom of the Beta List and working my way up. So if you ordered all rankings in topic based on Beta List Placement, then you'd be able to read everything in chronological order. ...There is absolutely no reason to ever do so, but it is something you could hypothetically do.] Then you get the song listed in whatever format it was nominated in. Nominator tells who nominated the song (obviously) and tells you where the song placed out of all of their nominations. For someone who nominated all 15 songs their lowest ranked song would be "15/15" and their highest "1/15". The three values in parenthesis (0, 0, 0) tell you, in order, what score I assigned to the song on the first, second, and third times I went through the list of songs. While only the final value mattered, you can use it to determine which songs had consistent ratings and which ones had scores that would fluctuate wildly based on my mood. ...Also some songs have non-numbered scores, but those are rare and are completely open to interpretation as to what they meant. [Initital Thoughts] is, naturally, a box where I could type whatever my first reaction to a song was. If I had any. Then the actual write-up portion of the song. Technically, this data existed back at my first topic, I just didn't share it with anyone. This time since the list changed so drastically from the original, I thought it might be fun to let people see where there songs might have placed on a different version of the list--so even if you have a song that dropped over a hundred placements, you can look at how high the song once placed, and know that some part of me enjoyed the song (just not the part that was doing the final write-ups). If you're one of the lucky songs to have risen over a hundred placements, then you can also look back and consider how close the song came to ending with a much lower placement. ...Also the write-ups in general are much shorter and having more detailed statistics might help a bit with that. There might be multiple songs with generic "I can't think of anything to say here" write-ups, but you can at least track how my opinion on the song changed over time, even if I couldn't find the words to explain it. Second, standard "it's my topic and I'll be as furry as I want in it". I tried to restrain myself, but there's still lots of tail wagging whenever I'm happy or content with a nomination, so... just try to deal with it. *continued* --- A not very secret alt account for when Raetsel wants to be a pony ... Third, even if a song gets a 0--and a lot of songs do--try to take it as a compliment. It's hard to explain, but I like things that I don't like? Err...well, ya know how it's a fine line between love and hate, right? And I do want to experience songs from genres and subjects that are out of my comfort zone. And making me feel anything is impressive. And, as I've said before, I started off hating a lot of my favorite songs (you can kinda see this in the rankings as some songs with really low initial rankings would shoot like a rocket once they finally clicked for me).
Honestly, the further a song is from a 5, the more I appreciated it. It's why I don't feel too bad about being overly zealous with the terrible scores. Just take a 0 as being about as good as a 10 and be happy about it! ...Also, given how volatile the rankings are, you can safely assume that there's really not much difference between any number. You'll see songs go from "4/10, I didn't feel anything" initial thought to "10/10, most immersive and dramatic song EVAR" final thoughts. And that's not even the most drastic increase; if it's a low placement, you can safely assume that I just haven't clicked with the song yet and would probably appreciate it on some other day. Fourth, there's no topicality here, so feel free to post whatever. If you want to try to hijack the topic and rank every song yourself, then go for it; I just wanted a massive list of 300 songs to listen to, so I've already got what I wanted out of this deal. Fifth, there will be several TIED SONGS this time around. Inexplicably, the ties having nothing to do with the scoring and only serve as a marker of times I couldn't bring myself to pick one song over another. Rankings start soon. Okay, that was a bit harder to post than expected, but I think the nomination list is accurate.
Which means it's time to officially drop the bottom two songs. ==================== #300 [#291]: Name: Candyman Origin: Christina Aguilera Link: Nominator: Raka_Putra (15/15) (1, 1, 0) [Too explicit and too old-fashioned, with a video using a military backdrop. Its like a collection of things Im not interested in... I should give it a few points for being so far outside my comfort zone, but Im struggling to convince myself to not drop it in last place.] After listening to it again, I've obviously changed my mind about not awarding last place to this song. I tried to give this some credit, really, I did--"it's catchy ennough that it's gotten stuck in your head multiple times and you need to give some credit to new experiences! You can't have this in last place!" Then we get to a military cadence as the outro to the song and I'm forced to admit that I really don't want to put any song below this one. First, I'm asexual, so the more sexually explicit the lyrics, the more quickly I'm turned against the song. I typically need things to be more...metaphorical. Like "Dancing in the Dark". I know Springsteen isn't literally talking about dancing at night, but through the power of willful ignorance, I can at least pretend. Daydream about how romantic dancing in the moonlight can be and what not (granted, I don't dance and Springsteen wouldn't be my type anyway...). It at least gives me something I can work with. "HE MAKES MY PANTIES DROP!" doesn't. This is a problem "Between the Sheets" ran into last ranking topic; loved The Isley Brothers, loved hearing a song from them that I didn't recognize (I knew them for their 60's and 70's work), praised the song for having a smoother sound than any other nomination, and how well it stood out from the other songs... but even with all the positives, I just couldn't give a particularly high placement to it because I had absolutely no use for it. ["I Love You, Honeybear" should have been in the running for first place last topic, but it took a long time for me to become comfortable with it.] While fairly catchy, this song never came close to the aforementioned songs quality. And then there's the military aspect, which... why? Even if I liked the rest of the song, the outro alone would tank the placement. It's like this song exists purely to be the opposite of what I want. ...which, yes, should be worth something. Last place is something, right? No one ever remembers the song that came in next to last. ==================== --- A not very secret alt account for when Raetsel wants to be a pony ... Copied to Clipboard!

#299 [#300]: Name: Hunger Strike Origin: Estradasphere [Album: It's Understood] Link: Nominator: Flamander/Glacier (15/15) (0.5, "I've run out of negative numbers", 0) [Different, but not different enough is the phrase that came to mind when it started. Then, after the violin solo, my reaction was too classic and old-fashioned. Then I noticed how long the song was going to be and sighed. Parts of it are alright. The electric guitar isnt bad, I never hate saxophone playing (though it goes on too long on a song that was already too long, I was briefly happy to hear it), and then we still had five minutes left to endure. Very instruments. Much long. There are long songs I enjoy (a few were nominated last topic), but this wasnt one of them.] Okay, so now I have a tiny Bluetooth keyboard. Not a good one and typing is somewhat difficult due to all the keys being out of place (will never adjust to tiny backspace key), but it's probably easier than on-screen keyboard. The score for the second Round of listening is so absurdly low because I gave the song I wanted to award last place to a perfect "0"*. Then kept finding songs I liked less, resulting in scores spiraling below 0 and eventually an exasperated declaration that I was running out of ways to award negative scores. ...that may have been a tad harsh and all negative scores have been officially bumped up to 0s for the actual ranking. Yay? Soo...long song. Ridiculously over-the-top long song. That's not a deal breaker by itself (from last topic, I believe it was "Graves" that had a long running time but was so intense with its music and story telling that I was enthralled), but this track just never works for me. Parts of it are fine, but if you want my attention for almost 20 minutes, I need more than fine--even if you just isolated the few parts I like and removed the rest of the fluff, this probably wouldn't get too great of a score anyway. More than 0, sure, but not great. ...Honestly kinda tempted to move some other song down to last place and give this a 0.1 in respect of the sax, but... nah. [Later Edit: Well for better or worse, that saxophone kept this song from coming in dead last after all.] [Final Thoughts: *Obviously said song will be indicated when it drops. You'll also note that we move into "actual numbers" after that point--really, I should have stopped being stubborn and gave it some points, but I refused to give in and now we have a large cascade of zeroed songs as I refuse to let the joke die. ...Though as I said, a 0 is a compliment in its own way when it comes to me, so I can justify it. Sorta.] ==================== --- A not very secret alt account for when Raetsel wants to be a pony ... Copied to Clipboard!

heck yea, same here Neat. NBIceman posted... Glad to see Graves left a somewhat lasting impression from last time! Well it is hard to forget! Like I said at its actual write-up, it's a rather intense song divided into four chapters. It's certainly an experience. ==================== #297 (#296): Octogram - TOBACCO - Nominator: GameBopAdv (9/9) (1.5, -0, 0) [This was a song. No further comments.] Was it a song? I never dislike it, but I never remember anything about it either. It's nice enough, but it needs...something? Anything? It's like the intro of a great song, that then repeats itself over and over for three minutes while forgetting to play the actual song part. ...and no, I don't really know what a score of "negative zero" means either. It just felt appropriate at the time. [Final Thoughts: I do somewhat like the lower tones used in the track, I think they start around :56? I've never really thought about it, but I think I like the general vibe those notes and tones are giving off. There's just not much else going for the track; it still feels like an intro or a backing track, with a rather large part that's been cut off. The song just doesn't feel whole to me, for some reason.] ==================== ==================== #296 [#294]: Song: Preuens Gloria (prussia glory march) Origin: Johann Gottfried Piefke Link: Nominator: handsomeboy2012 [15/15] (1, 0, 0) [This style of music really isnt my thing. It could inspire a bit of a history lesson, the nomination is all dont you wanna learn about the victory that inspired this music?, but I...dont have any particular interest in learning about that war, thank you.] Can't think of anything I want to add to that right now. [Final Thoughts: Between my general disinterest in classical music and my distaste for military themes, this song was going to have to be really great to overcome all the biases I had against it. The low placement kinda says it all. It avoided last place because... well, at the time, I was feeling more generous to something being educational. Like, even if I don't particularly want to research that point of history, I could vaguely appreciate that it was offering a jumping on point to learning something. Today... I think I'd probably flip this one's place with Octogram (or possibly move Octogram up a couple more spaces--not many, but it provides a chance to try to consider what it is about those tones that I find appealing, which is probably more than can be said for a few other songs?) ==================== --- A not very secret alt account for when Raetsel wants to be a pony ... Not negative any specific number, just negativity itself.", 0) [Usually I like chaos and altered vocals, but I dont like this.] This is one of many songs that I don't have any specific reaction to. I wouldn't say I dislike the song, it just kinda...exists. I'm not sure why I was so brutal with my second score as this song doesn't deserve it, but I also don't feel compelled to move it any further up the list. ==================== Just pretend that was posted a few songs ago, like it was meant to. --- A not very secret alt account for when Raetsel wants to be a pony ... #295 [#295]: Name: Thomas the Tank Engine Theme Song Origin: Thomas the Tank Engine Link: Nominator: handsomeboy2012 (14/15) (2, 0, 0) [Never saw an episode of any Thomas series or heard this theme before, so theres no nostalgia here and the theme doesnt seem good enough to get by without it.] It's nice, but that's about all I can say about it. Don't even have much to say about Thomas himself; he appeared in a boss in the Mega Man fan game "Square Root of Negative One" alongside such other notable villains as "Doodlebob", "Illuminati", and "Milk". It's actually an above-average Mega Man Fan Game, so check it out if you're ever really bored or into Mega Man Games. Thanks for the attempt though! Not many people went with something from a children's show, in spite of the whole...pony...thing. Going through rankings fairly quickly tonight. I'm hoping to stick with ten per day and, since I was so late getting the topic posted, I'm having to go quickly to make up lost time in order to stay on schedule.
Two more now, then two more a little later and I'm going on break for the night. ==================== #294 [#284]: Name: Teostra's Theme Origin: Monster Hunter World Nominator: Murphiroth (15/15) (2, 1, 0) [Not my type of song, Im afraid.] This is one of those songs where my opinion of it went down slightly each time I heard it. I've been on record as being rather consistently against video game OSTs that want to be all...epic orchestral type affairs. And while there are always exceptions, nothing I've heard from any Monster Hunter game has ever worked for me. I started at "while this isn't my thing at all, I can appreciate that it's probably good for what it is", but after having to listen to it repeatedly... it started to lose what little good will I was offering it. This is probably too low, but I just want to hear something else right now. Sorry. ==================== ==================== #293 [#268]: Name: Pilgrimage Origin: SOUND HOLIC Vs. TOMOSUKE feat. Nana Takahashi Link: Nominator: banshiryuu (10/10) (4, 2, 0) [Reminds me of an average anime intro.] This song took a massive dive down the rankings after the final listen. I had it pegged at placing around 268th place, but it has dropped over twenty rankings to this placement. The song itself is generally okay, but in the more intense sections of the song, there's this...pulsating beat that gives me a tremendous headache. Like, "need to take a break" level of headache. And while this is far from being the only song with a loud, monotonous, thumping beat this is the first song where said beat actually caused pain. [Final Thoughts: You can tell this was written before my decision to include the Beta Rankings, as it's redundant to point out its original placement twice. Also, as an early write-up, this was written well before songs started getting extreme changes in placement. Dropping 20 spaces is nothing this time around. I stand by the write-up. While the initial, almost choir-like opening is fairly nice, the song starts to feel somewhat generic once the singing comes in. Then the beat drops and my head starts to hurt. There are breaks when the intensity mellows out a bit, but they don't really help--dreading the inevitability of the song kicking back into full force rather prevents me from even trying to enjoy the subdued parts.] ==================== --- A not very secret alt account for when Raetsel wants to be a pony ... [FINAL THOUGHTS: When I turn the song on, I feel I was probably way too cruel to it... but that clacking noise starting at :25 quickly reminds me of why I dropped it so low.] ==================== ==================== #291 [#201]: Name: The Apprentice Series 7 Opening Origin: The Apprentice (UK Series) Link: Nominator: paulg (15/15) (6, 5, 0) [Its oppressive, but not oppressive enough. I want to feel the weight of a hundred times Earths gravity crushing my soul into a thin paste. The opening notes gave me hope*, but it never went far enough. *Hope that the song would bring despair is an odd way of putting it, but I can think of no other way to word it.] In a little bit we're going to come to a song that dropped 40 ranking spaces and I'll be shocked (at the time it was written) that anything fell so far. This song dropped 90 spaces, proving how...extreme songs are bouncing around the list this time. This type of thing just didn't happen last topic and it's happening roughly every other song this time. Anyway...the first two times I heard this, I was fairly into it. I wanted something with an oppressive atmosphere and this had some oppressive qualities to it. Tonight, I feel absolutely nothing for the song; I don't like or dislike it, it just...exists? Tag! Hype!
I got last place...wow. Well, like you said it's probably more remarkable to get dead last between 300 songs than middling scores. So yay. Also, were you familiar with the song before I nominated it? --- Into the woods, but mind the past... Into the woods, but mind the future! ... Copied to Clipboard!

I don't think I'd heard that song before, no. At least, I have no memory of having heard it before.

#290 [#239]: Name: FT: Janne Suni - Acidjazzed Evening [VRC7] Origin: RRThiel {Original: Janne 'Tempest' Suni} Link: Nominator: Flamander/Glacier (13/15) (7, 3.5, 0) [I dig it, though I have no idea what its a cover of. *listens* Think I prefer the original, sadly.] This song was doomed as soon as I listened to the original and realized how drastically I preferred it. I can't quite put into words why I like the original so much more. It's...like some of the low notes in the background are reminding me of static and I love static so much that I find it wonderously relaxing? The version you nominated lacks those notes. And while it's not right to penalize the song for not living up to the original, I can't listen to this without being reminded of how much I'd rather be listening to the other version. ==================== ==================== #289 [#228]: Name: Lawn Wake V Origin: The Flashbulb feat. Admiral T [The Sound of One Constant Pitch] Link: https://nophi.bandcamp.com/track/lawn-wake-v-featuring-admiral-t Nominator: Cakophon (15/15) (3, 4, 0) [I hate the opening and most parts with the vocals (theres some metallic echoing I enjoy, but not much). The instrumental sections arent bad, but they dont do enough. After such a negative reaction to the start, theyd have to be truly great to turn my opinion around and they just werent enough.] A fully instrumental version would probably get around a 7, but tonight my dislike of the vocals is at its absolute strongest. I think this song just dropped 60 rankings on the relisten, so that's a new record. ...Also it's probably just me, but something about the voice reminds me of DoodleBob. Like if instead of being erased he became the DJ at the hottest nightclub in Bikini Bottom. [Final Thoughts: That marks the second, and hopefully final, arbitrary reference to DoodleBob. Also pointing out that this fell 60 spaces is ridiculous after a song already fell 90, but it makes more sense in chronological order (as at the time this was written, the other song obviously hadn't dropped yet).] ==================== --- A not very secret alt account for when Raetsel wants to be a pony ... #288 [#246]: Name: Salted Caramel Ice Cream Origin: Metronomy Nominator: mcflubbin (10/10) (4, 3, 0) [Probably would have gone better if he was literally singing about ice cream.] Oof. I don't know what happened tonight, but this song has suffered one of the most extreme drops between initial & final placements in either topic. I think it fell over 40 ranks, which is crazy. Especially because I honestly don't know why. The song is fine? His voice is a bit too high-pitched at times, I'm not crazy about the choice of metaphor, and the backing track is so close to Funkytown that it's distracting -but- all of that was true the first two times. For whatever reason, I just very actively don't want to listen to this tonight. ...I'm sorry? And will probably regret this by the time I post the rankings? But this is how I feel at the time I'm making the list and we're all kinda stuck with it. [Later Edit: Well "Lawn Wake V" just fell further and harder than this song did, so that write-up isn't terribly relevant anymore.] [Latest Edit: It's funny how past me felt 42 placements was worth drawing attention to.] [Final Thoughts: I'm mildly unsettled by the monster having eyeball hands, but that didn't impact the score any--if a video was having a negative effect on the placement, I just substituted Spotify links to give songs their best chance. (Songs where the video had a positive effect were left unchanged). I still haven't figured out why I dropped this so far down, though I seem content with the placement. Unlike Octogram, I wouldn't say I regret putting it here--I just don't know why. ...Well, not like 246th Place would have been a particularly impressive ranking either, so I'm probably overthinking it anyway.] ==================== ==================== #287 [#297]: Name: Only Child Origin: Tierra Whack Nominator: mcflubbin (9/10) (0, -1, 0) [Oof, this is...no. No, thank you.] Well this is the only song that never scored more than a 0 on any of the three listens, so that's something? I know I shouldn't be this negative, but this track doesn't work for me on any level. The video is off-putting with the lamp never being in sync with the sounds, the lyrics are all over the place (it's silly; no wait, it's vulgar for the sake of vulgarity; no wait, it's an anti-Trump song for ONE LINE) that I don't even know what feeling the singer was going for, and those are just the complaints I'm comfortable bringing up. I do appreciate the chance to listen to it, need to expand my musical horizons and what not, but...no? [Final Thoughts: Yes, I could have tried to find a link to this song without a video, but I assure you the out of sync lamp is the least of the issues. Poor out of sync lamp is actually almost charming, in an ironic way--don't you just want to root for the little guy? "Come on, lamp! You can get the timing right this time! I believe in you, lamp!" ...Also not directly related to anything, but is having one line of spontaneous seriousness a tradition that I'm just not aware of or something? I'm reminded of last year's "Everything's Gonna Be Alright" (or whatever it was called) which started off simple and then went into Black Lives Matter for about one minute before dropping that line of thought entirely. Much like how this song goes into Trump for half a second and then drops it.] ==================== --- A not very secret alt account for when Raetsel wants to be a pony ... Copied to Clipboard!
