Hello, this is the Part 2 thread of my playthrough of the DR series. I'm currently on Chapter 3 of DR2.

The first thread can be found here. I'm also waiting for it to be archived, and will link that when it's done.

I have a gamepad now! It's an USB PS3 control. First time I own a dual shock in my life (nintendrone here). What a weird way to make this achievement.

My first act with this shiny dual shock will be to play an action mini-game of questionable quality involving a stuffed bunny who likes to draw circles. Worth it.

Hiyoko is doing something naughty. I was expecting her to mature after the last trial, but I guess bad characters just don't develop.

Eh... did Hyoko just build a shrine to Satan?

So it's a memorial to Mahiru. Lovely. They almost burn it, but Kyoko 2.0 saw what it was really about.

Hiyoko freaked out when people started bashing it, but when they liked it, she put her alpha bitch mask back on. Turns out she's not that bad of a character after all. It's going to be hard to rank those kids, because I don't think anyone deserves the last place.

One thing DR1 is better than this game at are the chapter start screens. The ones here look so generic. Chapters screens instory-based game like this can be important. The ones from Paper Mario, for example, had a huge impact by showing the shadow of the boss when the chapter began.

It's painfully obvious Monomi is not from the same faction as Monokuma, but nobody can see it, and that's very annoying.

Everything is going according to Nagito's keikaku.

Island 3 is interesting. It's like an abandoned industrial town, but with some green things in the back that look like holograms.

Gundham says the hospital is similar to where the "mark of defeating evil" or whatever was once carved onto his body. Coming from Gundham I'm gonna guess he's talking about an appendix surgery or something like that.

Titty Typhoon. Okay.

Ibuki is really happy there is a music venue and wants to schedule a concert. No, bad, bad Ibuki! You don't give yourself plot relevance like that, it's just asking to get a death flag.

Somehow Disco is not dead in Sonia Nevermind's country. Or it is, but she doesn't know it.

We find a computer, and the computer contains plot. Actually, more plot than DR1 has revealed so far. Turns out the Tragedy started in the school itself, and then went outside. So Junko and Mukuro had more to do with the whole thing than being just creators of the DR1 killing game. And it's possible other students were plotting alongside them. The Reserve vs Primary departments things is also interesting.

Meanwhile, Chiaki is looking for old consoles. Priorities.

Kazuichi is into women's bone structures. A man has his fetishes, I suppose.

"The Wizard of Monomi". I'd watch it. As long as it was a mute film.

Is this the first time we get to click at Monokuma in a game screen? He smaller than I thought he was.

Hajime doesn't wanna see the film because he thinks it's motive. Meanwhile, that made Nagito rush to see it. But the movie sucks. Haha, screw you, Nagito!

Sonia is also into old medical dramas. I wish I could just sit in a living room with her and wash all that trashy stuff she likes, it would be hilarious.

The hospital is this island's navigable place, which means it's probably the murder scene. I don't like how predictable this aspect of the game is, tbh.

There are cardboard Monokuma doctors carrying a cardboard patient in the back. I assume I should feel scared but that's just too silly.

More Monodoctors operating a patient while a bunch of aliens watch. And the exit of the operating room is labaled "Heaven". Lmao.

Fuyu is alive! Nice. He is a good character now. And Chiaki is implying him surviving was not a coincidence. Monokuma probably set it up so he would only take light wounds and make Peko die to protect him from the heavy ones.

Nekomaru is strongly implied he and Akane fucked. I have a feeling he just used a martial arts move on her, and she loved it because she is weird like that.

If you speak to Kazuichi directly after that conversation, the two of you go and spy on them when they run off, and it clears up what exactly "it" is.

I spoke to Chiaki first, she said she wanted to sleep, and the game immediately cut the scene so I couldn't talk to anyone else.

I really, really hate that about this series.

Might as well watch an LP to see any dialogue I missed.

You aren't that deep into the chapter, so you could probably just restart from the chapter select and not save. It's a better idea than watching an LP before you've beaten the game.

I had a game over and almost had a second one because I couldn't figure out the weapon used to kill Fuyu's sister. Had to check gameFAQs to figure out. Turns out I was supposed to put "swismsuit" on "gravel". What. The. f***.

Monokuma is saying he's having a feeling of ecstasy for me figuring out the weapon and I'm showing my middle finger to the monitor.

Yeah, this was, IMO, the worst part of the first two Danganronpa games. Absolutely dumb. Like, the use of the weapon in itself was actually pretty good, it's just there were absolutely no hints until that point nor any good way to figure out the combo.

And Pekoyama's death scene was so good that I tried to influence a DnD character towards being her, making a Barbarian who's Ragemode is Peko's Kill Bill end (with a little bit of Gohan going SSJ2 for the first time). It's too bad we've only had four sessions, and the last one was about a year ago.

Tbh that massage looked really sweet, now even I wish I could get one. Putting aside the fact it's a huge muscular man who gives it.

We begin the morning greeting a bunch of characters. I guess the points of note is that I now have to meet with Hiyoko later, and Gundham continues to be lovable. Nekomaru commenting on Mahiru's art is pretty sweet, too.

Kazuichi wants to flirt with Chiaki but he's too much of a nerd to pull it off.

Hiyoko's thing is a jamming session. Where Ibuki screams and doesn't make actual music, and the other two pretend they match with that. Cute.

I actually remember to check the Monomi pet this time, and I'm keeping it alive. But it consumes gifts, and the only way to get gifts is that wretched slot machine. I hate that thing. I can't believe that is still considered well-designed gaming in whatever-year-DR2-was-launched. I might as well mass buy the cheapest item from the supermarket instead.

Free time, I talk with Akane. I'm here wondering why she never talks about gymnastics and Hajime asks the same question. Turns out she only does it for money, and because some old man told her to. The girl seems to have some motivation issues, always needing a coach to yell at her in order for her to care about anything other than food.

Pet Monomi is now a pig. Reminds of Superpig, a shojo about a girl who turned into a caped pig superhero. It was amazing.

Nagito next. He likes the gift I give to him, but there is zero dialogue after it and his report card moves nowhere. Wtf.

IBUKI OUT OF NOWHERE! She is so random she managed to interrupt Monokuma's day announcement. And destroy my lock. Because.

I love how people just tacitally agreed there is no point in keeping Nagito imprisoned and it's more efficient to just ignore him.

Fuyu is back, he has a badass snake eyepatch, and he's here to make a badass speech.

Oh, less badass, and more like finally wanting to make friends. Took two fewer chapters than it did for Byakuya. Though it took the death of Byakuya himself as part of the process.

HOLY SHIT, dude commited sepukku. And survived it. Not even Hiyoko can ignore that, I believe. This dude has my respect now, he's badass.

People say Akane is missing, but she's in the market, available for normal free time stuff. I guess this is a disconnect between gameplay and story stuff.

Kazuichi next. His dialogue is pretty bland. I feel like he is this game's answer to Hina. There's nothing special about him, he's just around to brighten the cast.

I have Free Timed with everyone once except Teruteru, Nagito (FUCK YOU) and Fuyu (who is not available). So let's go for a repeat.

I talk to Gundham. He asks me what is the largest hamster species and I have no idea. Then he lectures me about hamsters, while implying he is both worried about dieing and leaving them behind, and the fact they also don't leave many years themselves. Someone protect this boy.

Ibuki wants to throw a party for Fuyu. Probably just an excuse to play music to people, imo.

"This guy... oh who cares anymore". lol Hajime.

Ibuki's music sounds like a mix of trashy Black Metal and something you would hear in The World Ends With You.

Even Hiyoko came, though she's too tsundere to admit she cares. She somehow likes Ibuki's music, though.

Akane challenged Monokuma to a fight. Dear, you are not Sakura, only Sakura can be Sakura, so don't try.

Did Nekomaru just pull a Mukuro and die?

But he doesn't die, because unprogrammed deaths don't happen here unless it's literally the Mastermind killing someone.

Hmm... did Nagito just break? I mean, more than usual?

Oh, that's a weird motive. I was thinking he was giving people a deadly disease in order to motivate them to leave the island, but instead of a fantastic disease that changes their personalities. I can't even predict how a murder will come out of it. Whoever does it is more or less being forced to do it. Which is probably what is happening if I remember those 2-3 spoilers people graciously wrote in the first thread.

I wasn't sure whether to mention it (either back in Chapter 1 or after) but Nagito is unique in that you must see his first Free Time Event in Chapter 1 before he shows his true personality. If you miss that, you can't view it... and since all subsequent free time events are locked behind it...

Yeah, there's a number of evolution paths they can take. It has to do with the stats in-game (the pet game that is, of course.) There's a trophy for getting them all IIRC.

The student are splitting up to quarantine the infected. And Fuyu can see it's a trap. Cooperative Fuyu is really useful. He is mafia, after all.

I can't decide if waking up with Mikan cuddling you is scary or awesome.

And here I'm thinking she had the disease or something, but it was on purpose. Is she secretely a pervert or just super naive?

Nagito is too much of a protagonist to die in Case 3. This feels like a distraction.

I would think the ultimate mechanic isn't the same thing as ultimate electrician, but I guess Kazuichi is just talented like that.

So the device has limited range and requires a mid point. Perfect set of details and restrictions for a murder.

No ovrnight stays allowed in the hospital. Because we can't have those patients being protected from easy murders.

"I will remember you worried about me until the day I die". Yeah, Mikan definitely has a crush on Hajime.

Flashback dream. Students are talking about someone who's entered the school despite having no talent. Logic implies that is Nagito, but it looks like they are referring to Hajime. Also implying he gave money to enter, or something. Strange.

Mikan's surprise night cuddle strikes again. This time in my cottage. Since Ibuki broke my lock, I expect a lot of surprise invasions like this to happen.

Holy shit what a dark murder method. I guess that's Ibuki, right? Damn, she was cool, though a bit of a flat character. Whoever did this is a fucking monster though, takes some cold blood to just tell a sick girl to hang herself and film it.

lol at Gundham and Monomi getting alonge. The guy really is good with animals.

And Hiyoko. Danmit! Is it a real double murder this time, or a chain like in 1-3? I find it hard to understand why someone would do a double murder at all, though. Or why they bothered to come back and lock the room just to kill Hiyoko.

The fact Monokuma keeps calling it a motive makes me think the killer may also have been afflicted. Calling it now: Mikan did it. The disease fipped her personality and made her evil. If that's so it's a very crappy motive.

I'm gonna ask that you people refrain from commenting cases that I haven't played yet in this topic, because the stuff some said about 2-3 in the last thread are seriously influencing my expectations here.

Ibuki is at least likable, and mostly funny, though bland. She didn't always land the jokes but had a few awesome moments. Looks like someone for the 11-13ths. Would be higher if this was DR1, but this game has strong competition.

One thing I gotta admit is that her VA was really good, though.

The one thing I liked about Hiyoko is her "Geez!", so yeah I second her VA being good.

Hiyoko had one really good put down in Chapter 2 when she called Peko a "toilet clogging bitch."

Other than that, she was pretty insufferable, but she's good decent FTEs though.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a locked room mystery. It's that time again.

They actually made voice acting for Chiaki chewing a random green goo then spitting it. lol

Something tells me Ibuki helped with the Hiyoko kill. With the blood on her shoes and on the stepladder (which is definitely not a ladder!).

Nagito is really useful when he's not being a freak. He is smart. If he didn't have that crazy inferiority complex, he could be Makoto.

Never underestimate a hamster whose name is Jum-P. The little thing can jump.

Chiaki found a glitch in the game. If two people kill another two people, then the trial is unwinnable, unless they also hold two votings. Monokuma just handwaves it and says "okay then, there is only one killer". Unless one of the victims is also a killer, ofc.

No autopsy, and there is a perfect excuse for it. If there is a case where Mikan kills someone, this one has to be it.

It seems the entire case relies on unveiling the fact Ibuki was killed before Hiyoko, and cracking any alibies based on that. I'll keep watch for anyone who tries to say they have one. The killer is among them.

Fuyu makes me rest easy knowing I will not be dismembered and encased on concrete. Thanks, Fuyu!

Sonia accidentally made Hiyoko go to the music venue. And I bet that's when she caught the killer right in the middle of setting up the Ibuki kill. So she had to be silenced.

Aaaand the suicide video seems to be a fake. Lights went out right before Ibuki could be seen dieing. More fuel on the fake alibi theory.

I'm seeing all the puzzle pieces on the board, but I still can't see what picture they form if they connect. Specifically, whodunnit. The Mikan thing is just based on meta, tbh.

And a hospital gown is missing. Yup, fake video.

Monokuma just gave me a ticket with a date stamped on it. Besides "proving" I'm a tsundere, he just gave me the best alibi in the game. Which makes me wonder why the killer had to imitate the film, knowing some people might not have seen it which would create a bunch of alibis.

You know, this was a good film. Especially the part about dead Monomis.

I got a thing to confess. The other day I was looking for images of Gundham or something like that, and the "google questions" on the top of the page said "who killed nekomaru?" (I know, I know, you guys told me not to Google, but I have low self control. Based on my usual self I think I'm doing a fabulous job at avoiding spoilers here)

Anyway, I've been expecting Nekomaru's death for quite a while. But instead the game is making a huge curve ball out of it. Monokuma refuses to say if he's dead or alive.

I think he is this game's Mukuro. His cadaver is gonna show up at some point so we'll have to guess who controlled Monokuma to kill him in order to take down the mastermind.

Trial next.
